Me too, tried some different tactics, managed to beat the main enemy but then his mate with an even larger force comes strolling round the corner....Doh! Can nearly beat him too but didnt work so got him to chase me round the central ring track to build up a larger force. I clearly pissed him off cos his other two mates came running along with equally large armies!! AAARGGHHHH

Try to get the Frenzy scroll; this spell helps a lot. There are many possible strategies that were described on this forum. For more details, use the 'Search' feature on this forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In Campaign 2 Mission 3, does anyone know where a Frenzy scroll is?

You find it behind the red border guard in the middle east

1. Buy mage guilds and get good damaging spells for your hero. A fireball in the midst of all those ranged enemies does much more than the hero's basic attack.
2. Plan your town build. Succubus's are great for all the slow big creatures like Treants guarding border guard tents. Figure out what resources you need TOTAL to get where you want, and then use your hero to get random resources and mines in order for you to able to buy 1 thing a day, without turns going by.
2. Capture the first Sylvan town on the bottom quickly, and build it up. First build a tavern then the city hall (+1000 gold a day), then level it up to 9 and buy the 2000 gold city hall. Do this with all captured towns and you will have a ton of gold and can buyout all creatures easily on day 1.
3. Visit Morale and Luck world objects before going into a battle.
4. When the week changing starts putting all those sylan units like hunters all over, have your hero go to all of them. I had maybe 1 out of 5-10 groups join me. 100 free hunters are nice.
5. Get expert and fast gating. On larger enemies with retaliation, wait with your stacks, waste your gated in creatures by attacking with them, and then get no retaliation strikes with your normal stacks. Never attack with a 'real' stack if you can wait and get retaliated on a 'gated in' stack.

Ty for tip...but that is just basic stuff. This map is still screwed...at least on hard. Havn't tried on normal yet.

Since your inferno town can only go to a very low level, I just built the town center in it and then focused completely on building up the first Sylvan town.

This one scenerio really put me off to the point I haven't played in 5 days.. Gilraen should have a cap for troops and this should be for all enemy heroes. His "radar" is sad since you can't step out of the demon area. With a cap, if you play long enough you SHOULD be able to win if you don't do anything stupid, like loose your castle. I played this scenerio for 3 hours and was pushed back to the demon area, I might as well given up long ago.

Tried it again right from the start. Captured the Sylvan town right away and focused on geting as many troops as possible per week. Did some exploring to get resources. I had stacks of each troops with 6 dragons and then he came and did it again. He is just to strong. His damage is twice mine. There seems to be no defence bonus in this town. This is playing on normal. I just gave up, found the trainer and with 9999 troops passed the screen. What a waste of a scenario.

Go for the Frenzy scroll, Gilraen doesn't stand a chance if his own troops start killing each other. Also, don't wait for him to grow an enormous army, go for the upper-right castle where he "lives" as soon as you have a decent force AND the Frenzy scroll. The other heroes are tragic, you shouldn't hae problems. And don't kill the druids too early, if you capture even one of his towns like the lower one the bonus you get in numbers in very helpful. His low-level heroes are nothing to worry about. I won the map from the second time, but did so in just a few hourshttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Just beat this mission last night on Heroic. I find Hard to be too easy and too boring as victory feels weak.

I struggled on this mission on Heroic for the first 5- times or so. I made one crucial mistake which cost me a loss each time. Played on hard and beat the mission with no problems whatsoever. I also learned what I needed to do.

To win on heroic:

Note I never found nor used frenzy. My hero did not have any magic ability. He had logistics, weapons (ballista), leadership, attack, defense and one other. Logistics is my favorite always.

The key to victory is to take out the Northwest Sylvan castle Asap to prevent the druid guy from building his army.

The 1st week build up your inferno castle to get upgraded 1st and 2nd tier creatures. Then get some succubus. Take out the 1st Sylvan castle and upgrade to give more income. Upgrade Inferno for more income. Once you have the extra succubus go take out the 1st gold mine with the treants. This will give you, $3,000 gold per day, $1,000 x 3.

Wtih week 3 armies you should be able to take out the earth elementals fairly easily with 8+5+5 succubus. Phantom image is the key to win and you can phantom your shooters and wipe out any ground neutrals without casulties. Once you get passed the Earth Elementals you take the NW Sylvan palace. When the Sylvan main hero takes the lower Sylvan castle go steal his main one, the Far East castle. Now you own his main castle. When he tries to retake it go steal the bottom castle. In my case, he tried to protect the non upgraded lower Sylvan castle and I kept his main one, giving me full upgraded armies at the beginning of the week. In about two weeks, I had an equal size army as his and was able to take the bottom castle. I had 8 dragons, he had 5. I had around 60-75 archers archers, more than enough.

Hope this helps.

I know this post won't help at all but I just got to type it... PLEASE make a sticky with the title " Use search button before posting" with big black letters. I think we get 2-3 Camp2 Miss3 threads a day, I admire the forum regulars self control not to scream out loud everytime this beauty pops-up.

You should have restrained yourself with a strip of big black tape since I did uses the search and this is what I found. If it is a well run thread and is boring to the regulars, then make a sticky of IT.

hey all
This mission is easy actuallyhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
-First of all like some said in the previous
thread go asap to the NW town.DO NOT TAKE THE
SOUTHERN TOWN(1st one u see)

-To get past the earth elemental use only the
hellhounds and outrun the earth elementals and
use ur hero to take em down
(ie get a 2d hero in the inferno town to
follow ur main for the switchhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )
This is also a great strategy from someone in
the previous thread tnxhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)
Voila the NW town is urs!

-Most important bit of info DO NOT TAKE THE
SOUTHERN TOWNhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif at least not till like 6th
week or later..once u take the town..the next
beginning of the week the druids will cast
their spell.

-and last dont go too close to the NE town
cause their uber hero might follow uhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Other then that build everything in the NW town
and look out for Gilraen..but ull have a big army anyway to take him...the map is urs!

Have fun

I found another HOMM5 website that has alot of good posts about this game. They have Official Campaign walkthrough threads dealing with each campaign and the various missions. Some good tips in them. Check it out.

You're by no means the only one. I'm also stuck on this mission playing on the "normal skill level" and have simply given up until the patch appears. They dropped the ball big time with the difficulty of the campaign in HoMM5.

there're a lot of strategies.
i done like this..
first i explored that map..
then i found Gilraen when he's a bit weaker when he's in the southern castle and sends his troops i dont know where...his army was very big, but i defeated him then he left with only legion pixies..
i never used elven warriors only from there i get Inferno troops..all upgraded..
i had like ~70 succubi. m
~500 overseer demon
~33 Nighmares
~300 imps
~120 cerberus..

it isn't a lot. but i use more cleverness than power..
then go round and he will try to get u..
take all castles..he can recapture one..go for druids...rerecapture recaptured one..i waern u he can use town portal spell so be clever and quick
btw u'll get a lot of new good spell in those towns..
u know, strategies is always changing on difficulty lvl., but i just say who i defeated them..

on which week did you all beat garilen? I just beat him on turn 34. he started going after me on turn 22, luckily he opened up the fort for me, after some fleet footed manuvering. I was able to upgrade 3 weeks worth of tier 1 sylvan armies and took him down with about 10 ancient Treant and 3 dozen master hunters. Couldn't have done it without the ever useful phantom image. The little ***** even got hold of that frenzy scroll, he frenzied my treants, so I ported it right in the middle of his group, it was hilarious. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Hi all,

According to the patch notes, Gilraen is weakened in version 1.1. This should make things easier for ushttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Did I miss a message when the druids cast their spell about my resource mines no longer producing?

I'm not sure when it happens, but pretty quickly in that scenario, I no longer get any recources from my mines.

I don't know if it is a bug or not but I did have a few rounds with super low income, a couple hundred/turn, then it would go back to 5K. Odd.

1.1 patch

"- Campaign map 'The Conquest' Main Sylvan hero Gilraen weakened, his script fixed..."

HORRAY!!!

"- EASY mode"

YAY!

I knew that this campaign was a little too challanging(normal). If there is only one way to win a battle scenario it is too hard(capturing the NW castle). What ever happen to freedom to explore? Glad this is resolved. I really like the exploring aspect of Heroes.

Hehe. The levels till now (on Hard) I have found pretty much a bit of a stroll through, though I have hit a snag on Camp 2 Level 3 too. Its a real pain. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get anything near a big enough army to even cause serious damage to the elf man's army when he swings by. I have to this date not managed to kill more than mebe 1/4 of his army in the fight. The 100+ hunters and 40+ upgraded druids basically waltz through anything I have. Hehe, I tried running him around for a whilse to soften him up whilest I kept supplying my army, but 1- I went to the red tent for the 'frenzy' scroll, but it wasnt there, which was a real waste of time (he hadnt opened the tent or anything there was just no scroll). Then he cut through the 'zounds' (or whatever it is +370 anyhoo) of Plague Zombies just below to catch up with me. He suffered all of 0 losses doing so too. Which is plain silly methinks. In summary, my army normally consists (if I go all out on upgrading Inferno-town) of 30ish Succubi (i often lose mebe 1-3 before he comes), 40 odd Cerebi, 200 odd Overseers (which die in mebe 2 attacks from either of the ranged units), 100 Familiars, and about 15 hell charger upgraded thingamies. I simply stand no chance.

Just play aggressive and this map will be a piece of cake. Be careful to not lose any troops at the beginning, let your secondary hero collect all the mines and resources while Agrael moving forward. Take out the first elven town and the one to the West ASAP. There's a stack of Earth Elementals guarding the road that can be easily defeated because they are slow in combat. Of course, it depends what skills you gave Agrael in previous maps - War Machines really help there.

After you've taken the Western town, you can either try to storm forward and take out the last elven town that is East or build up your army. This way it was me, not Gilraen who was attacking.

I am also having difficulties beating the AI. After I have beaten Gilraen on the border, I started making my way to the NW map for the Sylvian castle. I had 15 Succubi, 68 imps, 4 Hell Chargers, and forgot the rest of my troops. Anyways, I encountered the Phoenix (5 of them) and I can't even beat them. I don't know what else or where else to go cause the rest of the way is blocked by other monsters. I don't want to go near the NE castle where Gilraen might be waiting with his fresh troops. So, any ideas on how to get to the NW castle without loosing my troops?
