I have the retail game version 1.0. I have been playing it for days. No issues. My 6600gt video card handles this no problem. I downloaded the 74 meg 1.3 patch to my hard disc. Double click the patch and I get a tenth of a second of something that looks like an ms dos window flash on the screen then nothing? I Tried moving the patch to another folder with the same results. Size on disk is ok at 77xxxx meg. Took four hours to download on a 56K modem. I don't need to do that again. Why won't this thing start? My computer has no issues. Runs everything I throw at it. Using Window XP SP2. Any ideas as to why this thing won't start the install routine?

I'll assume you have administrative rights to the computer and suggest:

1) Go to DOS prompt and get to the patch directory and run it like this farcrypatch_v1.3_t.exe /s/v/qn ....example:

http://gotfrags.net/images/silent_patch.gif

2) That doesn't work, make sure your windows installer is up to date.

3) That doesn't work, uninstall SP2, install the patch, then reinstall SP2.

I tried that. Dos says "cannot run this program in dos". I am the administrator and the only one who uses this computer. Signed on as admin. Never had a problem loading anything on my rig until this. Should I try booting from floppy and using this command line? seems like it would get the same results if it says it won't run under dos? I'm lost here!

Only difference I can see is that my dos box comes up saying C:\ Command Prompt in the pretty little blue box at the top instead of C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe like the one you show? Has that possibly got something to due with the "can't run under dos message"?

hmmm...I tested right before I posted. The different directories for cmd running makes no difference. I did mine by going in start\run then cmd and you got urs from going thru the start\programs\accessories\ ...still runs the same file. Perhaps it is your Windows Installer that is corrupt.

Try: http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/wininstallnt.html

Also ensure that the Windows Installer Service is running: http://www.theeldergeek.com/windows_installer.htm
