Help needed - Start Up Problem

OK i bought my ps3 yesterday and also bought Assasin's Creed cause I wanted a game to play. I go home and set up my console and place the game in and then loads but after the "playstation 3" text finshes a black screen appears and then i get nothing.. I restarted my ps3 and loaded it and after waiting continuously i still get nothing.

I then changed my display settings cause i thought that would be the case. it was currently on 520 resolutions and changed to 720p and then i couldn't see anything on my screen (and this happened with 1080i and 1080p as well). After fiddling around with different settings and reloading the game i still got that black screen! I wouldn't think my television was at fault because i have an "LG plasma 42PX4DV".

So then i thought a different output setting would be the solution so i went and bought a HDMI cable because it was compatible with the TV. After resetting the display outputs i was able to run the ps3 with the cable. Though when i inserted the game again, still the same thing happend!!

It's really frustrating cause i don't know what is wrong the PS3, TV or the Game?? Can anyone help me on what i should do...

I think that I might be the game, but to be sure try playing another game, if you have one or can get hold of one, in the ps3, if not then try a DVD, if that works then it is probably the game disk at fault, if it still wont work, then as long as all the settings in your ps3 are correct and you have the latest system software, you may have a faulty ps3, give sony a call if this is the case or take the ps3 back to the shop.

Hi, same thing happened to me. I got my PS3 just 2 days ago, a 40GB Ceramic White. Assassin's creed won't start and gets stuck at a black screen.

I'm not really sure what caused this but after trying it out on a different console from a different store, here's what i found out:

+Check your firmware: Must be 2.00
+Check if your unit is NTSC or PAL. My Assassin's Creed won't play on the PAL but worked on the NTSC.

I'm having the exact same problem. I picked up the 'Limited Edition' version from Best Buy yesterday, and all I got was a black screen when I tried to load it. I exchanged it today, thinking I had a faulty disc, but it's doing the same thing. I currently can't go on the internet on my PS3, so patching right now is out of the question. WTF? I just wasted $70 on a mini frisbee? Help would be really appreciated. (CoD4, Madden '08, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and the Spider-man 3 movie all play fine).

P.S. When hovering over the 'Assassin's Creed' disc icon, it changes the background, and has a little movie, just like any other game.

i have exactly the same problem. Brand new PS3, new copy of Assassins Creed and new tv but cant get the game to work, am I supposed to downlaod the patch first?

ok ummm i dont know what the problem is but the same thing happened to me i thing it is just the game but thanks now i know i am not the only one with this problem
