hmmm ... oh well i might say so. I had some glitches in the trees and they are ugly. So players tell me to update my card.
So i did, 71.84 and no it did not work at all.
Now, i know that a some time ago i installed the standard driver that came with my card (msi 5900xt) i benchmarked the card and got say 2000 points. However after updating my card i benched again and got 1700 orso.....
Now back to sh3, i did remove all drivers with Driver Cleaner Pro (thx capt. loneranger) and after that i installed my original drivers from the msi cd. Sh3 runs with faster fps and i dont have glitches in the trees.
Kinda strange dont ya think. Drivers that a newer should run smoother better and give less problems. If someone encounter this kinda problems (glitches), its worth a try...

Good to hear and thanks for posting your results! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
The problem with newer drivers is the fact that more and more stress is put on benchmarks and more Frames, while quality and possible problems seem to be less important. A shame, IMHO.

I'm running 67.66 drivers on my FX-5700 Ultra and it runs fine except when the sea spray hits the UZO lens, then it plummets to 1 FPS. You didnt say what version of the older drivers you are running?

I agree with the first poster...I have just upgraded my graphics card and ram, previously I had no crashes ctd's just slow fps so as I said i upgraded to a gforce 5900 and a gig of ram... and installed the latest drivers from nvidia ...It wouldn't load at all...tried several different drivers and ended up with the old 5.30 and now it works fine apart from a few sound issuses..

Its not odd that older drivers work better. Nvidia themselfs tell ya, if your card currently works fine, then there is sometimes no need to get the latest video drivers.

Me also,
Though I only have a fx5200 which I have discovered as being no good at all for this game due to its constant 12 fps when looking at large convoy on Happy times mission as a benchmark.
I have tried all drivrs and tweaks and it seems to me that the new drivers limit the cards performance.
Its funny as I also have a 9200 ati and that also only gave me a 17 -18 fps whn looking at same view.
I had â£100 today and decided to buy more memmory (now have 1 gig) thinking this would improve but no it never.
For this game to run smoothly I will definetly need to be upgrading my vid cards.
What knocks me sick is the fact that these cards are fine with most other games (doom 3 HL2 etc etc.
Is there anyway to improve my fps settings? What settings should I tweak to get the most out of these two cards?
Clean system install
Sh3
AMD 3200
1 gig ram
FX5200 256 (runs like tripe)12 fps when looking at large convoy 38 all other directions.
ATI radeon 9200 (better than previous) 18 fps at convoy and 38-40 all other)
I have tried tweaking both cards and overclocking but they just do not improve.
Someone please tell me some decent UK graphic cards and prices as well as the FPS rating on Happy times mission when looking at this convoy from the bridge.
I know I need to trash these asap but they have been good in the past.

Pre-6x.xx drivers don't work with 6800 Series cards.
Using an "older" driver version then the 6x.xx series is not an option for 6800 Series card owners.
The 5x.xx or the 4x.xx drivers might solve many of the issues for early card owners.

Everyone who is having problems with their video cards should look up the Omega drivers on Yahoo or whatever. I'm running them (they are based off of the newest Nvidea and Radeon drivers) and have had absolutely no graphical glitches at all.

Here is a lot of information on the most common videocards http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/index.html

Hey Gouldjg you say you have
AMD 3200
1 gig ram
FX5200 256
Now if i had a mainbord and cpu like you have with 1 gig of fast ram i should think about upgrading the vid card fast. The FX5200 is really a card for those who care less for pplaying games... go check the link and you see that your card is on the bottom of the list regarding 3dmark03.
Im running the game on a cheap GF5900XT and im only getting 5500 3dmark03 points, most guys got double 3dmark points with new card like the GF6800GT but they cost ya a bit more...however im running the game smooth.....
Good luck finding the right card

Gouldjg,
Having 1 gigs of RAM is quite necessary today if playing games, but it doesn't help much with the FPS. It does help with the stutters caused by more or less frequent loading from the harddrive, when more stuff can be put into the memory which has much faster access time.
FX5200 is getting quite oldish and thats a serious bottleneck for your computer.
Last thursday I upgraded from GF Ti4200 ultra to Leadtek GF6600GT I hear the Ti4200 is about the level of FX5200 or a little better). There is an incredible difference with the performance.
Same level of a card would be a good choice for you too, if you can't buy one of the outrageously priced Radeon X800's or GF6800's, which of course would be as good as it gets.
With the Ti4200 I couldn't even think about using anti-aliasing, but with the 6600GT I can run the game with 8x anisotrophy and 8x anti-aliasign and still got a better FPS http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Having 1 gig of ram is necessary? No way, Jose. I've played many of the latest simes (HL2, Doom3, HOI2, Pirates, BIA, Kotor2 ect ect ect), and I only have 512.
No stutters either. I'm running SH3 just fine with 512.

Omega-Drivers are very good for ATI. They always were faster, yet had a better image-quality. The Omegas for nVidia couldn't achive that, yet. I tested several versions, but all seem a LOT slower and some even cause glitches on my 6800gt. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

more ram, does it need to be of the same manufacturer as the old one? If so, how do you tell what the make is? In system information it only appears to say "512 mb"
