"We've just received Assassin's Creed 2 and Settlers VII for review, and verified with Ubisoft that the DRM is the same as the boxed product. If you get disconnected while playing, you're booted out of the game. All your progress since the last checkpoint or savegame is lost, and your only options are to quit to Windows or wait until you're reconnected."

"Even if everyone in the world had perfect internet connections that never dropped out, this would still mean that any time Ubisoft's 'Master servers' are down for any reason, everyone playing a current Ubisoft game is kicked out of it and loses their progress"

This will NOT stop pirates. Even with this DRM I can guarantee this game will still be cracked, and they will be able play the single-player campaign (at the very least) with more freedom and options than people who buy-it legitimately. Please don't ruin this game for PC gamers with this terrible DRM!!!

Hmm Ban ?
Hmm Noob?

Why would you ban him for speaking the truth?

Or are you one of those who believes in censorship so the masses don't see what is really going on?

Or is the wool just still pulled over your eyes by Ubi?

Every game can be cracked - it's just a matter of time. What Ubisoft should do is focus on optimising the game for PCs and then patch it regularly, instead of doing some crazy DRM system that will only prevent the legit PC buyers from playing it.For example GTA 4(the PC version) - Rockstar were so obsessed with their DRM,instead of optimising the game and when they released it the performance was terrible(even on high end rigs),there were millions of bugs and even then the game was cracked in under a week.GTA 4 needs to be patched at least 3 times to be playable. So please Ubisoft, don't do this mistake. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yea, I agree, everything can be cracked, it only depends on time and I am almost sure, that it won't be short time with SCC... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

it has the same DRM that Assassins Creed 2 has, once AC2 is cracked, SCC will be cracked only moments later

and regarding the fact that AC2 comes out ~ a month earlier than conviction, Conviction will probably be cracked just after its released, maybe even earlier

This DRM thing will probably cause a drop in the PC sales, because most of the PC gamers hate the DRM.I think Ubisoft should do something to attract the PC gamers and make them buy the game - for example to release the Code Of Conviction skins for the PC(yes,I know Ubisoft will give the skins to some gamers that cracked the code, but they should be available for everyone, not only the Xbox 360 gamers and a few PC players).

Another option would be simply to let the dying PC market die. Console releases only from this point on!

Well to be honest I think Ubisoft will do exactly that in the future. Most of their games for the PC are usually delayed with 3-6 months and the sales are low. Then they blame the piracy - I know it's a factor, but there are still people who want to play their games on the PC and when the game they've been waiting for is delayed with 4 months, they just lose interest and therefore don't buy the game.

It will be cracked fast... Splinter Cell is AAA title, but it is no the only one... AC II is far more popular than Splinter cell (I like SC more but i belive AC ha more fans)wich neans two AAA titles. If drm is working at same principle for both games... crack one , you cracked all
Plus UBI said they got patch to fix it... I dont say that UBI people are stupid, but there are some pretty smart people on this planet, they posses skill, and more important no real life at all. If UBI developed patch, what stops those people...

Dont you just love a system that encorages people to crack a game to have stability in single player
And once its cracked we all know what pirates will do
Well at least convictions has a great multipla....oh wait cant i just do that in a lan game or by myself

btw im still gonna buy it (at least for the moment) but I still got a long while to change my mind

Could someone clear my doubts.
1.So if my connection is not very strong(only 256 KBPS)then i wouldn't be able to play?
2.Or they will just check my executable file every time?
3.Does my gameplay experience will get affected due to higher ping between the main server and my pc?

It's arbitrary crap like this that made me stop playing on the PC.

They have to do what they can to stop people from copying the game. It still happens of course, the game crackers live for it but you can't blame a company for trying to prevent it.

I mean their bottom line suffers if they sell 1 copy and it get cracked and 1000 people download it. So they lose that revenue because it's now a cracked game people can download for free. The more this happens the less incentive devs have to make PC games. Face it, the game crackers are helping to kill the PC game market.

I have no problem with DRM as I buy all my games legit and DRM has never really caused me any issues in the past.

Silent Hunter 5 has a March 2, 2010 release date.

"Adverts are always hammering on that if you illegally download, it's the same thing as going into a store and stealing the game. I agree.

With that same logic, this step by Ubisoft is equivalent of me walking into a store. Having a security guard follow me all the way round. Then follow me to the till. Watch me pay. Then follow me home. Then go into my room and sit next to me whilst I play and insist that I'm not allowed to play when he's not around."

That is from a comment on IGN by JonnyZero25, I agree that it seems to be the perfect analogy to how this system is supposed to work. Many of you probably would agree with that as well, Ubisoft is treating all of us as criminals in a way by imposing this DRM. Also, in the DRM FAQs I read a part about how saves are being saved both on your PC and on Ubi's servers? That probably would be the first opening that crackers would be going for.

Wow. Way to go Ubi.

We know that requiring a permanent online connection is not a happy point for a lot of PC gamers, but it is necessary for the system to work.

So in other words,"we hear you and don't care, stop complaining!"

You know what Ubi? I remade a well known chart just for you:

I'm not sure if this is against any regulations or whatnot, but I'm severely disappointed.

see a drop in the PC sales, because most of the PC gamers hate the DRM

I agree with everything said here. I Love AC2 but I refused to buy with that DRM and I refuse with Splinter Cell.

Stop worrying over pirates...most wont buy the game even if you force them too. Console pirating is just as bad too cept with less DRM.

You have now lost $100 from me UBI and future titles if you keep it up. I might buy it at some point but it will be $10 new or $4 used on ebay just to hurt your pockets further.
