Few things to try,
- Turn sound hardware acceleration down a notch
- Use Omega Video Drivers from OmegaCorner.com
- Try Various Sound and Graphic settings within the game until you reach a resonable frame rate in the cockpit. While flying, press <shift><tab>, then type fps START SHOW. You will see your frame rate.
- Use a lower resolution like 800x600 at 16million colors or 1024x768 at 16million color depth.
- Turn down the OpenGL graphic settings in your video card properties to the lowest possible and work your way up from there.
- I find that Anisotropic filtering runs as fast as Bilinear and produces a better image even at the lowest video card settings.
- Use Custom Graphic settings in IL2 Setup and uncheck Multitexture unless you want to use Perfect Mode. But Perfect mode is a Graphic and Memeory hog and will dog the game down.
Hope this Helps.

Beolke,
You,re telling me to begin with nearly anything . But Did you reach the state you were in at beta? And is a clean install nesssecarry?

When it does'nt crash (jvm.dll) I can run campaign in excellent with 6x/16x.
Have'nt tried perfect in campaign because I'm currently running Cat 3.9 with hotfix and just have'nt bothered.

When I built my new PC, I just zipped up my FB 1.11 folder on the old PC and copied it over to the new PC, unzipped it and applied patch to update to 1.21, and it runs silky smooth. So my experience seems to indicate that a clean install of FB is not necessary for a smooth running game. The steps above regarding game and vid. card driver settings are necessary to get the best results, I had to change a lot of settings esp. OpenGL to get it running smooth.
Hope this helps!

I can`t understand why so many people refuse to do a fresh install and pop 1.21 over the top. Difficulty in d\l the file (because of 56k) is the only valid reason.
Save your game files and do a fresh install, don`t be lazy. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
My system:
Athlon 1.7
gf4200 128meg(advised or similar meggage!)
1. gig mem (heavily advised)
HD 7200 speed good.
Get rid of spyware with adaware or spybot ( a helpful mention from another guy). It does help. Adaware/spybot finds and destroys `secret ads from `bending the law` companies who stick crap on your pc without permission. These things can really stu-u-t-ter up a game.
Ihave sound at 16 or 8 bit in channel, 22050. Not sure about reducing sound acceleration... I don`t play in perfect, not necessary anyway- just eye candy.
Also, potver, every PC is different that`s the unique thing about them. It would help us help you if you more specified your PC SYSTEM. Tell us what you have or all we`ll do is speculate and you`ll just get frustrated (which it sounds like you`re getting).

Ok, Sorry. The best thing to try first is to uncheck Multitexture and turn Sound Acceleration down a notch and select 16 sound channels. Do this for Starters. You be surprised at the increase you'll get from just this. And then keep these constant and proceed with others. If you find you not getting any more increases in performace, then stick with these settings.
I also know turning down Landscape lighting down a bit within the game wil also give a signifigant increase in performance.

A clean install wouldn't hurt either. You can save your User data by copying the User folder to another location and then copy it back after a clean install.

That,s interesting seafire what you tell about spyware I do have adaware against all kinds of nasty spyware. Oke , first of all my sytem, which ran perfect before 1.21.When Oleg,s hidden time bomb made the game impossible to run, I messed with the time. First I thought 4 days back to be able playing ,Then I read not to mess with days but put it a month back. Then I saw some stuttering.I repaired it and set it back. When the patch came out I read to uninstall FB and apply the patch. After this it,s a mess. Stuttering single missions, campaigns,D-generated camp., only FMB missions are less bad.

Had omega 3.9 now ati 3.10
I tried many things but the result is the same.Would putting the time back be a cause of this.I am running out of solutions.Anyway thanks for helping.

in il2 setup will unchecking "stencil buffer" under video increase performance?
also under sound will unchecking "audio enhancements and hardware accel.." increase performance.
Im tempted not to mess with sound because i rely on it when i fly in cockpit on servers, my headset really helps.
what sound settings are a good trade off for situational awareness and performance?

I unchecked Stencil Buffer in il2 Set up , but when I set over the switch in the gamesettings the red lamp stays on??
Once I knew the trick but forgot

You may keep the same sound setting but turn down the sampling rate from 44k to 22k. Also Balanced sounds yields almost the same effects as Full and will give a few more fps.

That would depend on how you define "silk", but I am very happy with system performance. Unzipped the upgrade and flew. I have only uninstalled/reinstalled once, (il2) due to a lightening strike. Most the time reapplying the upgrades in the correct sequence will correct the install.
Used the same settings and drivers as before.

Hmm. Your systems pretty good. At this point Hunter82 would say post your DXdiag... Um. But I`m not an expert so....
1. I would save your user/DGen and Mission files for FB.
2.Uninstall FB completely.
3.a run adaware.
4. Defragment your PC. Do it twice if you want.
5. Reinstalled FB.
6. Pop in the FULL version 1.21 to go over 1.00 FB.
7. Pop files back in.
Keep your sound, etc, low like the other chap said. 16 bit 22050.
Make sure your date/ time is correct of course. All that time travelling wouldn`t do your PC much good anyway.
That`s just to start you off. See how your FB runs after that. Hope it helps.

Finally back. Forgot password!. Wel I did a very clean install (Cleaned HD, form. etc) and installed FB, flew with it on low settings( minor stutter) Applied 1.21 , low sett.,And I can fly again. Its much better but flying low there are little stutters in the ground texture, which I,ve set to normal.I went back to cat.4 because I flew month with it without stutters. Is Stencil Buffer off an option?
XyZspineZyX
12-14-2003, 03:21 PM
You can turn off Stencil buffer, but then you should turn on Polygon Stipple. The opposite is also true. They are what helps render shadows, just in different ways.
As for the guy above running perfect above 50fps(always) with AA and aniso on a GF4, I have to raise the BS flag on that one! Sorry, I just dont believe that.
