First off, this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that were on an Ubisoft forum, for the record...

I was just reading about the PS3 launch vs. older launches and the 360 launch and I noticed something...Without Ubisoft I personally don't think M$ would be where it is in the console marked (I know their negative but who would've imagined the following they've gained? Well I did but I'm a freakin' guru...). Being too lazy to research this myself and too tired to go find friends to talk to this about I'd like to hear your opinions on this statement:

Ubisoft mad the Xbox what it is today.

DISCUSS.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

You can't forget Halo which had near as much influence on the xbox, I know after playing the first Halo I wanted an Xbox much more than any of the other availible systems.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Actually,

Bungie made MS what it is is today.

UBI has been a nice right hand man though.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I was in the beta test on live and spent hundreds of hours on the first REAL live game, Ghost Recon...After that they kept pumping out the hits. Halo was amazing, especially lans, but I've always been an online pwnerer and I couldn't have done it without ubi. Oh, and lets not forget about a little thing called the BEST STEALTH GAME EVER* (Splinter Cell) -- Helped me to spend time not doing HW both offline and on.

*Note: Though attributed as the best stealth game ever it is still not as good as Metal Gear Solid. Only in the stealth sense and even then its up in the air.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Sorry I have to agree with Doc..if any one game or company altered the microsoft xbox and put the system on the map, it was Halo/Bungie.

haha i spent sooo much time in recon, i remember when i got it for xmas =)

me and my friend actually invented our own game we used to play all the time, called the hotel game. it was in the embassy, the team who spawned closest to the hotel would run over and set up base. the other team had to try to get em in the hotel, it was a really intense game...we used to have one person set up mines and one watch the map and tell the ohter when to set em off...

just thought i'd share a story of my glory days on live =) back when i didn't have college to waste my time, ugg...not worth it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Halo was the reason I wanted an XBox. I played it at a friends house and was hooked.

Bungie and Ubi have been a big part of the growth of the XBox life. Hopefully more companies like Epic, will help it continue to grow.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The Xbox wouldn't have had the success it's had w/o Halo...

That said, every game that I've not traded in has been an Ubisoft game. Right now my library consist of all Ubi games. That trend will continue with Vegas and Assasin's Creed (and Raving Rabbids, Red Steel, and FC for Wii). They've been able to retain the initial luster and maintain longevity unlike anything else.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I still own H1 and H2. the only Ubi games I have held onto are rs3 and rs3 ba.

I still believe RS3 was the very best game they ever made. I haven't seen the majic that game had in it, in any release since.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

i would have to say Halo sold the system, Ubisoft sold Xbox Live as Rainbow was the number 1 multiplayer game until Halo 2 came out!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Wierd thing is, when I bought my Xbox on launch day, I didn't even really want Halo. The three games I had chosen for my bundle package were NFL Fever '02, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x, and WWF RAW. RAW got delayed, so I wound up picking up Halo instead. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with Halo's gameplay, especially with LAN play.

I still have Halo and Tony Hawk 2x.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I would still rather play a Halo 1 Lan, than Halo 2 on xlive.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

halo 1 > halo 2 ANY DAY

That being said, I also got my Xbox never having played Halo and with no interest. I think its kind of odd because I was pretty obsessed about the launch and I didn't hear about the game until the 2nd issue of OXM (I think it was the second...) Actually the first I'd heard of it was a friend brought it to a birthday party and I brought my box and we tried it out. Our first impressions were that it SUCKED! I had never controlled a game like that before but after a couple of rounds I realized what a gold mine I'd hit. I proceeded to go to my friend's house every day after school to play the game until I got a copy myself for my birthday on my first halo lan...i was hooked.

I think I'd have to agree that we could argue all day what sold the system but Ubi sold Live (It is a pretty good argument that Live sold Xboxes but I won't get into that). See M$ still hasn't turned a profit on the Xbox brand. So they still haven't sold enough of the systems to make it "worth while" (actually they plan to go positive in june! how exciting.) Because of this their main goals with the Xbox/360 have been to build a huuuge fan base and I think that the long lasting appeal of ubi games on the amazing live universe has created just such a fan base. k welli'm not sure where this rant is/was going but i need to go get some lunch, peace.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Uhhh. there is no argument.

Halo is still....the #1 game on xlive(between both systems even). It was the #1 game on the first xbox, and the flagship game of the system. Ubi may have got the ball rolling on live but, only because H2 hadn't arrived yet. Bungie, with it's one title trilogy made, and has carried MS from the beginning.

No doubt Ubi has produced in a supporting role.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I bought my xbox for $100 and it came with Rallysport Challenge. I didn't even open it, i just went and traded it for Halo. I was instantly hooked. That said, I think that Ubisoft is the most consistently succesful developer out there. My favorite games have been mostly from them.

I like that they (Ubi) are big and have a lot of little developers (like EA) but they are not satanic art-destroying, baby-eating, video game-corporatizing nazis (like EA)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

As long as they don't pump out sequel after sequel, of their popular titles. There's nothing like bleeding a great series dry.

You're not evil. You're a MONSTER!

Rallisport Challenge and RC2 were great games (if you're into racing games at all). I hope they make a third one for the 360.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I just wanted to play the super hyped shooter. I ended up getting Rallysport later on greatest hits. It rocked, but racing games bore me pretty quickly. They cannot ever give you the feeling of driving a car at high speed. At least not until VR is a reality. I usually crush all of the challenges pretty easily in racing games.

I do appreciate Ubisoft as a publisher-- they've brought some really great and unique games to us (i.e. Beyond Good and Evil, Prince Of Persia, and Far Cry). However, as much as I've supported the Tom Clancy franchises, many of the more recent releases have been rought with some of the worst quality control I've ever seen. R6: Lockdown never should have seen the light of day...

Though part of me hates what EA stands for, I think that they've shown themselves to be superior on the QC front in recent years...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Ahh. Every hardcore gamers dream. To take all the good things that all the large game developers do well, and bundle them up into one big perfect game maker.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
