View Full Version : Is ConViction Fisher's swan-song? Discuss!

Seeing as all we've got to do now is wait til May for info, and there's nothing we can do about that; I thought I'd start this little thread as a means to take our minds off the no-info rule.

Will SCC be Fisher's last adventure? Will he return in future games? What happened to Redding/Grimsdottir in the events of Double Agent?

Please discuss/speculate...whatever! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Meh, I don't believe Ubi will drop the franchise any time soon, even if Conviction doesn't turn out to be a success (personally, I hope it will).

About Redding and Grim... I don't really care either way, because Splinter Cell's never made me care about its characters. It's the typical "political thriller" predicament: all you're worried about is the fate of the world. Individual characters don't emote. They crack a few puns, they give you some info and that's it. You feel little to nothing for them. At least, I don't. And Double Agent only proved how awkward Ubi are at this. What I need from SC is a Sam who kicks *ss and outsmarts his enemies, and not much else. I sincerely hope they don't try to make the story too emotionally involving this time around, so as to save us and them the embarassment.

They'll probably kill Sam off at the end of Conviction, and then let players take on the role of a younger Splinter Cell in the next installment. I just don't see Fisher taking a backseat as a replacement for Lambert, and a happy ending doesn't seem likely. Conviction final cutscene will be of Fishers funeral which noone attends except Grimsdottir, puzzled together with some sad music.

I think you should remember that as long as we're dealing with games it's always possible to make prequels and midquels (it's my own term but you all know what I mean by that: a game that fits between Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory for example) and whatever. I mean, that with things like TV-series making a prequel is usually quite difficult, because actors get older. It would be impossble to make a prequel for, let's say, X-Files today. At least a prequel with Mulder and Scully and Skinner etc.

I'm just trying to say that even if Sam Fisher died in Conviction (I personally doubt that), it definitely wouldn't mean that it's the last time we saw Mr. Fisher. He can come back, in form or in another.

However I'm not opposed to giving us a new guy to play with. I just don't want that guy to be a 21-year old blonde somewhat skinny dude with high voice and no charisma. I do even think that moving Sam to a different role, such as replacing Lambert with Sam and giving us a guy transferred from Rainbow 6 team (whose name we have seen a couple of times in other Ubisoft games) to play with, it might be cool.

Well, so far Ubisoft has had a great track record with Splinter Cell games and as long as that's true, despite how controversial gameplay changes they announce before any SC game release, I will trust that the guys know what they're doing and that the game's gonna be great. In other words, all the delays and lack of information in the world couldn't make me say that I think the Conviction is gonna suck. I will say that, if that is the case, after the game has been released.

I sure hope it's not...

I'd like to see one more classic Splinter Cell, with Sam, before it's all said and done. And I want the ending to not be some stupid and/or depressing cliché (a girl can dream, right?).

Sam dieing would be a fitting end as to the series or at least his involvement in the series but I doubt it's happening in Conviction.

i think it would be cool to see him put his goggles back on to end the game... Though i dont want to play as a 60 year old.

(a girl can dream, right?).

I don't remember the last time I was a girl, so I can't answer that question http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

About the sixhundred-and-fifty-seventh time (I counted http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) someone refers to the 60-year-Sam-problem... Ubi froze his age at 42... So Sam will be his delicious forty-two-year-old badass battlefield comedian forever http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The answer is yes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Boys can't dream, though - we've cornered the market. Sorry.

I noticed that... most of my dreams are about girls http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

One in particular http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
and my dreams aren't x-rated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

but... that's offtopic isn't it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Back to the topic then: I'd love to hear Sam actually sing... With a nice song like "join the ironside of life" or somethin' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sam? Sing? Noes... He's too cool for that.

Although...how about social stealth featuring voice recognition? Help Sam blend in at a karaoke bar! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

And hey, singin's cool you know? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Of all the games that I play, this is one game that I hope lives on - at least as long as I do, after that I won't care, LOL!

i dont think sam will die.

i think that sam may get a partner :O

then sooner or later sam will go out of the picture and his parther will take his place in the games.

i deffinaely dont think that the series will stop.

i saw a film once, i cant remember what it was, but the main caracter lives out the rest of his life in complete solitaryness, in a hut, in the middle of a firset..

maybe sam will do that..

(i think that film was the new hulk)

I think Sam wont die, he is the only one up for the job.
Hope Grim of Coen or both reappear in a "helping Sam" attitude LOL.
Redding, I dont know about him XD...

I think all three will come back for Sam. Sooner or later it's time to introduce a new operative while Sam isn't with TE.

Sam was dead the moment he started thinking walking around in broad daylight was okay.

And when he thought that throwing a printer at a guard was somehow better than sneaking up behind him and slitting his throat.

When he grew his hair out and aged backwards.

When he suddenly developed Eagle Vision.

Sam won't die.
Sam's already dead.

I really do hope that the whole EAGLE (HERO) VISION is gone. Never made any sense and it was a little too Assassin's Creedish.

Sam won't die.....he'll just go on to mentor a new rookie in the art of hanging upside down, and sneaking in the shadows.

Then he'll enter a "Masters" style tournament, and beat the living daylights out of Solid/Liquid/Gaseous Snake once and for all.

It also depends on who's universe would this fight occur in. If Snake's, the shadows are no advantage for Sam. Anytime he sees Snake there will be an exclamation point on top of his head and Snake will see it lol. I do like the idea that Sam would take Lambert's place or becomes a trainer for the rooks in the near future. Then again, with his personality, Sam might just disappear and never be seen again.

As long as Sam doesn't decide to fight the head terrorist on top of a submarine in a glorified one button cutscene while pushing around a walker and co2 tank because he's artificially aged to the point he can barely stand on his own.... nvm.

It would make artistic sense to kill Sam, but I know I wouldn't be happy.

Sam is cool because he's the best Third Eschelon has and he has seen it all. He's jaded to the battlefield that gives him a very cavalier demeanor when interrogating baddies. It would be cool to see a recruit get paired with Sam (but Sam should be so good he doesn't need a partner). The new recruit could be naive, and 'by the book.' Kind of an odd Batman and Robin metaphore.

But, bottom line, I don't want to see Sam leave anytime soon. As long as we're talking about Chaos Theory Sam. Grow the hair back.

And j/k from before. I liked MGS4 too...

Same here. MGS, IMO, is just as good and entertaining as SC. I new rook would be cool but it wouldn't be the same without Sam. I think a farewell is in order for Sam. Either he dies in the end or he just disappears and falls off the grid for good. Something a spy would do.

For me, this is the first game I've ever really enjoy.
And I really like the character inside.
So, if Sam get kicked out of the game, or stop being a Splinter Cell, I'll seriously consider not to play this series anymore.
If the UBI guys have Fisher killed,or make him die in some kind of accident, I believe I will never ever play this game.
And as long as they can freeze Fisher's age,why bother to replace him?

ckhan319

Maybe a prequel of some sort. I believe Sam has about two more missions (games) left before he officially retires.
