I was watching one of those WWII docu on The History Channel and there was a footage of a flamethrower tank burining up hedgerows(sp?) and i thought it would be really cool if BIA had something like that, where the player would come in contact with flamethrowers.

Flame throwers in games are always cool but I'm sure the creators would have surely mentioned it.

If the game is truly accurate, i doubt there would be any flamethrowers

Didnt think so

I mean't the Germans using flamethrowers against the paratroopers, not the other way around.

Flamethrowers would be cool, but I thought they were only in use in really close, fortified areas?

Yeah, like right up against a wall. Ouch http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I don't think they're ingame, then again, Randy Pitchford said they would not show certain guns before release, so its a possibility they're just keeping tight lipped. Doubt it, though.

No, flamethrowers could shoot about 30 yards before they despersed too too much.

And the germans really didn't use flamethrowers that much on the western front anyhow. Many hated the weapon as it was heavy and prone to f*** ups. Most of the time, the germans issued a man a flamethrower as a punishment.

I really don't think it would be that great if they were in the game.

The flamethrower is an offensive weapon(used against fortifications). No Blitzkrieg in 1944 France

if the game wanted to be authentic then flame throwers are a must because they were comon among german soldiers also there should be sniper rifles

flamethrowers are only useful in CQB...i do think also that burning soldiers alive maybe is a tad insensitive even though it really happened

He said a tank burning through a hedgerow not a trooper. Therefore the trooper wouldn't have to jump w/ a flamethrower

As crazy as it sounds flamethrowers were in fact given to Paratrooper units. Flamethrowers were more likely to appear in such units as well. Standard infantry could be backed by armored based flame throwing tanks or tanks in general. However, these tanks couldn't go into a lot of street fighting areas and Jungle fighting. They were given to units that needed heavy support but such support was not available.

Specialized units were given flamethrowers so they could take out defensive positions that otherwise they couldn't. Such as the pillbox in Saving Private Ryan. Standard infantry would usually have tank support and just let the Sherman take out the pillbox. Flamethrowers are used in an offensive manner. The Germans stopped using the backpack flamethrower when the Red Army in 1942 placed the Germans on a defensive stance.

Now just to show you I'm not crazy or give you examples in some book you don't have. I've dug up some links.

http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=4477
scroll down a little bit and you'll see a picture of a German Paratrooper with a flamethrower

http://www.britishairborne.org/weaponsairborne.html
scroll down to Anti-Tank and Personnel Weapons.

Soldiers issued a flamethrower carried nothing else and had to be supported by a support man.

Hehe, all in all I don't think flamethrowers will be in BiA as there really isn't much of a need for them. It's far more common to see a flamethrowing tank than a backpack carried one at the point in the war that BiA takes place
