I tried to install Flanker 2 on Windows XP with all its patches...But it's impossible to fly although I had no problem on Windows 98.
I can enter the menus of the game but when I try to fly it quits immediately displaying an error message...
Do you guys know about this problem is there something I can do to solve it?
Thnks for your info

You may try to run it under Windows 98 compatibility mode. Simply right click the Flanker.exe file, and click on the "Compatibility" tab, which will allow you to select Windows 98.

i think i have dicovered all the xp problems
in multyplayer there are some problems reported by a guy in this forum, and below there are some of them
MULTIPLAYER:
1)don't create a mission with complex sam
2)don' create enemy formation with more then 2 aircrafts
3)don't give to enemy aircrafts a payload with ejectable external fuel tank
SINGLE PLAYER:
1)running in compatible mode is useless
2)install all patches even the 2.51 to reduce very much the number of crash and improve the stability
3)use if possible instead of a high resolution with low antialiasing,a LOW resolution with HIGH antialiasing,so try to use 640*480 with 3 o 4x antialias (the graphic remains still good) instead of 1024 with 2x.
4)use 16 bit desktop and 16 bit option in flanker menu
5)DON'T USE ANY EXTERNAL VIEW DURING PLAY,IT IS VERY IMPORTANT.
if you respect these points you have a good possibility to play flanker without crash
for a year i have gone to the hell cause this bastard game always crashed under windows xp,but then, doing experience and experience,i have discovered these points, and now finally i can play EVEN THE CAMPAIGN WITHOUT CRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
have fun
I hope these advice are useful also for you

Bump, for myself and other XP users. Worth a shot anyway...

Well this didn't work either... Total lock-ups, after about 10 seconds of flight, no matter what I try. Any magic tweaks for WinXP users with Radeon 9700 Pro and Audigy 2? When it locks up, I usually get a looping sound...
PS I have tried Win 98/ME compatibility mode with no success either.

Flanker 2.5.1 runs perfectly fine on my PC. Not a single problem, except when I turn on AA the text is missing (common problem among older games).

Good to hear, but our systems are very different. I think the issue is with either my Radeon 9700 Pro or the Audigy 2 sound card. Anyone with these specs have any success with Flanker 2 and XP?

What, you mean designed to run on Windows 95?
/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
Flanker is now very old indeed . . . many games don't run at all under XP, and it's very rare to get them to work properly if they were designed for 95 . . .
Part of me thinks things are a bit too easy now . . . everyone expects to get perfect running without having to do anything careful with their software . .
No fear about Lomac - it's designed in the era of XP, no problem.
Right . . .
All of the above is worth a try . . .
If you're prepared to try it (and didn't do it the first time), then uninstall, defrag, clean up, make your computer as spanking clean as is possible (antivirus as well), and then reinstall.
When you next run Flanker, make sure you do it with no other programs running - the task manager in XP has a habit of hiding some from you.
The AA problem is well documented . . . apparently if you switch on the windows interface, you have better luck with text displaying in menus with AA switched on.

I did a very clean install the first time. I am thinking that this game does not like the Radeon 9700 Pro. The frustrating thing here, is it says right on the box that WinXP is a supported OS.

Did you install XP with the NTFS or FAT32 file systems? I'm running XP with fat32 out of necessity. Just made the switch to XP last week as a matter of fact, and Flanker runs better than ever. I can even save created misisons now which I could not do under win98.

NTFS on my XP... But I got it working. I went and grabbed a spare HD I had sitting around, installed WinME, and it works fine. The box says WinXP compatible, but that is an overstatement. Should say WinXP hit-n-miss. I really think it's the Radeon and WinXP that don't get along with Flanker. Seems like the GeForce users have good success with WinXP. Anyway, I'm up and running, and having a blast! So who want's to go fly some multiplayer missions??
