I want to know if someone can riddle me this: Why does my framerate in Far Cry lower overtime, usually with the movement towards a new map? Eariler I was playing the second or third level (the one with the hang glider) and the framerate was pretty bad, about 30. I quit the game and started it up, and it felt like a good 50 fps. This also happend again when I went from the level where you first meet the tri-gen to "treehouse". Framerate was about 30, restarted, was a lot smoother. I don't think it's overheating, because I got a nice heatsink on my card, and the highest i've seen it go with this is high 60s. I also have the latest drivers from nVidia.

Specs are a Geforce 6800 NU, 1 gig RAM, Athlon 64 3200+. I have everything on high except for Lighting which is on Very High, and Particles which is on Medium. 2x AF and no AA, 1024x768, and i'm using HDR. Hope that helps.

It may be that the deeper you get into the game the more complex the AI routines are as you engage more and more enemies. I know lots of people get slowdowns on the river level.

Other than that, it might be a memory leak. Start Far Cry, then hit alt-ctl-del and check the size of the farcry.exe file in the task manager. Go back to the game and play a while then do the same and see if it has changed. If so, you may need to close more programs running in the background or maybe increase your pagefile in windows advanced memory options.

I went and checked it out. Far Cry apparently uses 500 MB of memory, possibly a bit more. Seeing how I have a gig and only have one small program up when I play (not counting my wireless internet program), I have plenty of memory to spare.

I also upped my pagefile, and I don't think it helped any. I was on the level "River" and my framerate was a good 25 or so. I quit the game a little bit after that, and it was 38-42 FPS.

Well going from a FPS of 25 to 38-42 is a good sign.
