Make sure you always check out forums before a purchase for any game that you may want to buy. The PC version has been complained about since it first came out. Swallow the loss, move on and remember--if it says UBI and PC on the box, be careful.

Your processor speed (I assume you meant 3.33 Ghz rather than Mhz http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ), your memory and your video card all should pass muster. There might be a problem with that audio card but it should work, too.
The 97.31 nVidia graphics drivers (if you're on 32 bit XP) are the latest and they work just fine for most people.
Is that video card PCI-E or AGP?
What OS are you running? (XP 32 or 64 bit or Vista?)

HALCON. i followed your instuctions explicitly. The only change is that now i am able to play a single player terrorist hunt in the border town (i think) basically the first level options. none of the others work, neither does the story mode. i guess i just have to wait and see if it ever gets patched.

I would say you are up and running then. Story mode won't be available to you untill you progress more in single-player mode.
As for "multi-player" online, that takes a few attemtps to get it to connect. You also have to have or create an account. Also, if you have a router, you may have to open up some ports, not use DMZ, or was it use DMZ??? Anyone remember???

im not up and running if i can only play one level in the terrorist hunt mode. everything else causes a CTD.

Glad to read you are able to open the game.
Next step.
Now Pls. provide O.S. and type of connection to the internet.
<span class="ev_code_RED">"ROUTER Ports and SET UP"</span>
If you under a router you're gonna need to forward some ports, in the forwarding tab.
Ports #. <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">3074 to 3174</span> the <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Protocol</span> set it to <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Both , TCP and UDP</span> .
<span class="ev_code_RED">"Important Note"</span>
Now you need to check your IP address, This is to let know the router, wich computer it's going to Host, the game.
Remember this is not your WAN IP, ok.
Use this path to find your IP, and write it down in paper, your going to need to type at least, the 3 last digits of this Ip # on the port range or forwarding tab.
Do this:
<span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Start/ run/ in the run window in the blank after Open: type cmd / a DOS window will appear now, Now type, ipconfig after, C:\Documents and Settings\ "your name">ipconfig and press ENTER.</span>
Now it will Display, your Windows IP Configuration.
look for the line- IP Address....: 192.etc.
write down that no.# .

Pls . post the above specs. and we go Next step.

Solution found..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif 1st take the disk out of the drive. 2nd open the nearest window. 3rd holding the disk like a frisbie toss the disk out the window and watch it fly. It now works properly as UBI intended it to, aka a frisbie because you were never meant to think that this disk was a working video game to begin with.

what chipset does your motherboard have? If it's not Intel or SIS check you have the latest chipset drivers.
The latest Geforce graphics driver is 97.92
It sounds more like a problem with your PC, I think you'll find that most of the people here that are hinting your problem is caused by the game, are only having problems with multiplayer.

As of 5 March, 2007 the latest WHQL video driver for an nVidia GeForce 6800 running under 32 bit Windows XP is 97.31.
It sounds to me like something on your system is corrupted (possibly the files storing the story-mode/single player levels).
The system requirements for hardware, etc. should be exactly the same between terrorist hunt and story mode. The only difference _should_ be the files where the level data is stored.
Go to your game directory then to this path under it: KellerGame\Content\CookedPc\Maps
Right click on 01_Mexico and select properties. It _should_ be 581 megabytes, 53 files and 2 directories. That's what mine reports. If yours is different, then it's probably corrupt somehow.

He may need to do the render frames ahead check to set it from 3 to 0 or 1.
My machine used to crash all the time until I changed that. (GeForce 7600GS 512MB PCI-E) It's more prone to crash if it's an AGP card, too, I think.

ok. so heres whats happened today. went to dells website and downloaded the driver for my card from them. its an older version than current at nvidia, but tried it anyways. got an error saying it wasnt supported by winxp on install, but ignored it. ran the game. Story mode works. except the sky is black. So im starting to wonder if my card is not working with nvidias drivers the way its supposed to. if dell made it proprietary or something. im gonna try the NGO NVIDIA drivers in a bit and see what happens. ps. the folder that did not contain the files was the
Start/My Computer/Documents and Settings/"your name"as user/Application Data/Ubisoft/R6Vegas/
that folder did not exist.
the other folder in my documents did not contain the files i downloaded before i placed them there. id write that off to the fact that theve never been created as ive never been able to play the game lol.

Here's an offbeat idea for you. Check the permissions (right click on it then properties) on this directory: Start/My Computer/Documents and Settings/"your name"as user/Application Data/Ubisoft.
If the "read only" flag is checked, uncheck it and apply. I had this problem once with the 1.3 patch after I reinstalled the game. I tried to run the game but it kept blowing up on me. That directory was write protected (read only) and the game could not write it's config or any game data to it. I unchecked that and applied the change then the game started working.
But it wouldn't let me play the game AT ALL. No terrorist hunt, I couldn't even go set the game options without a CTD. And trying to play any single player game also caused a CTD.
I noticed that you are now able to play for a while, but it may be crashing when it tries to write a checkpoint or update that directory.
Those "black" skies were an issue back when Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on the GeForce 6X00 video cards (it did it on my GeForce 6600). It took a newer driver from nVidia to fix that. It sounds like the same problem.
I don't think your video driver (if you have 97.31) is the problem. Almost all (if not all) nVidia based video cards use nVidia's reference design and only add things like fans and heatsinks these days. They may change the geometry of the card some but they do not change the logical or electrical design of the card anymore. They're just too complex for that, now.
kerbosa
03-06-2007, 06:15 PM
ok so tried those drivers (both kinds of install) as well as the permissions idea. still no go. With the new drivers i get stuck at the loading screen while it loads forever. It plays the music for the opening bit, but the screen doesnt change just flashes and pops. Then CTD. it loads for about 5 mins with the hard drive going like mad.

There are some combinations of motherboard chipsets, video cards and sound cards that people have problems with. Specifically, the VIA chipsets with Sound Blaster (Live, I think they were) cards and nVidia GeForce 6 series video cards had some bizarre problems.
But if you're able to play other games without trouble, then I doubt that that's your trouble. Still, we're into bizarre problem territory, here.
How long has it been since you did a full install of XP? Maybe some old drivers or DLLs are causing a problem?
Was this video card in the machine when you bought it? If it's an upgrade, what did you have before (I _think_ you said this is an OEM card but just to be sure)?
And it's a Dell you say? Dells are notorious for having sub-par power supplies. This game is VERY demanding. I'm wondering if your system is just trying to pull more power than the PSU can hold up. My father's [Dell] PC used to crash any time he tried to run Falcon 4. That problem went away when I replaced the power supply in his machine with 350W one from PC Power and Cooling.
If you have access to a power supply tester you should check the power feed voltages. If they are consistently low (each or most less than 90% of the rated voltage) then I would replace the power supply anyway. It might not be causing this problem but a power supply that has most voltages less than 90% of rating _is_ substandard and should be replaced. Low voltages can cause all sorts of bizarre problems and even damage some components. It can even affect memory performance and reliability.
kerbosa
03-06-2007, 08:19 PM
thats rather disheartening lol. It is an oem card. however, I play most other games no problem. I should be able to at least play the game in poor resolution, as i can run other games with high requirements fine. I'll look into the power supply thing. Ill try re-installing xp as well, to see if that helps. The only other game that i have had problems with was farcry. I'd say is a ubisoft thing but brothers in arms EIB and prince of persia two thrones run flawlessly. At this point im calling it a loss. I may try returning it to the store cause i may just have a defective game disc and see if they will exchange it. I think ive learned my lesson about buying PC games without reading reviews first. Thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate it.
