when i use the remove white filter, the whole picture is black. what have i done wrong?

1. open the "void" file
2. if using photoshop, go to "image" then "mode" and select "rgb color"
3. make a duplicate of your "background" layer
4. apply the "remove white" filter to the duplicated layer
5. delete "old" background layer

Other colors might appear a bit transparent.
If you do not want them to, place a layer behind it and paint the areas behind those transparent colors white.
Or: make a copy of those areas (instrumentpanel and wheels for example) on another layer.
