I'm surprised it's only a 200m exclusion zone. If they found one of those things in MY road I'd go and stay with my sister in Devon!
The disruption is much worse than the article relates. A friend of mine is a bus driver in that area of London and the traffic and tube closures have caused chaos.

New article : LINK (http://neveryetmelted.com/?p=3919)
It has a name now : "Hermann the stubborn German" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
They stopped the "ticking" with a electric magnet.
Maybe it was booby trapped ? A mechanical mechanism operated by a spring ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
It also seems that the Bromley Gasworks were its intended target.

Just another day :
Today, a 500 kilogram bomb from ww2 was found in the Wilmersdorf district of Berlin.
The bomb was found during roadworks, and is located between the street and the entry door to a building.
Police and Firefighters evacuated houses and offices within 500 meters around the site.
Metro traffic has been suspended, the city Autobahn is closed.
Everything ready for the rush hour http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
UPDATE : Its a british bomb and will be defused directly where it is because of the incalculable chemical detonator. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Update : The bomb has been defused by destroying its detonator with a small explosive charge.
A rather unusual method but it worked and the bomb is now on its final way to a army training area for a controlled detonation.

Considering the length and the intensity of the Urban bombing in Europe, there must be lterally thousands of unexploded bombs still waiting to be found. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Which brings to mind a question: "When was the last time a WWII "UXB" actually detonated on it's own???"

I once read that experts suspect half a million tons of undetonated explosives within Germany alone.
Ive never heard that a ww2 bomb exploded on its own, at least not in any city.
Ive read about mysterious explosions on fields and forests in Belgium and France which are credited to ww1 ordinance though.
Never heard of anyone being hurt by that.
Edit : I just found an article saying that about 21.000 unexploded bombs have been defused since 1966.

OK! .....So she wouldn't go along with your invasion of Denmark: .....Is that any reason to plant bombs in her front yard???

When I would plant a bomb...it would be a slightly bigger one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
But where to park the equipment in need for digging a hole of appropriate size ? And how to conceal the operation ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I commend Celeon's growing mastery of English, noting that in his thread title he correctly used the word "defuse." As a bit of a spelling and grammar freak, I often blow a brain gasket when I see people use the word "diffuse" instead of "defuse."
Wow, Americans and Europeans are still digging up ordnance from the past. I recall from a History Television documentary that at the current rate of disposal, it will take another 700-800 years to get rid of the dud rounds left in French and Belgian soil from WW1.

When I was a kid in Ukraine, I would often go walking through fields with my friends.
There wasn't a day when we would not find anything war-related.
Mostly shrapnel, bullets and casings.
Often, one can find "live" rounds, as if, with powder in them. Those rounds + fire = popcorn... Stupid, I know, but we were kids.
Lots of mortar shell tails, with fins.
Also, there are a LOT of granules of artillery shell propellant. They are shaped like batteries, only about 4-5mm in diameter and about 10 in length. Very dense.
The coolest thing about them is that they burn with a hissing orange flame after laying in the fields for more than 60 years.
One boy has found a landmine when I was about 3. I can vaguely remember the day he was buried.
Me and my friend have found what looked like an anti-aircraft round. A very long bottle-shaped casing with a long bullet. Could have been from an anti-tank rifle, I'm not sure. If you shook it, you could feel and hear the powder inside.
One wonders how much longer kids will find these WW2 artifacts... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Another one was found during construction work in Bohnsdorf right next to the Berlin-Schönefeld airport yesterday.
1000 people had to leave their homes in the middle of the night AND in a thunderstorm.
Again just a small 100 kilo russian incendiary one.

Another one was found yesterday near Celeon's post socialist area.
A british 500 kilogram bomb with mechanical fuse.
It was located with help of old allied post-bombing recon photos , found and defused by specialists.
1000 people were evacuated and the public transport in the area was suspended for several hours.

Three engineers killed yesterday when a ww2 bomb exploded during defusement preparations.
Its still unknown what happened as the actual defusement process had not even begun yet.
The bomb had a acid fuse which belong to the most dangerous as they have the highest propability of still doing their job even after decades of corrosion.
A bomb of the same type had been found and succesfully defused nearby just a few days ago.
