Am I the only one that misses the Jane's games we used to have on PC?
I still have the manual for "Fighters Anthology" taunting me, as if it knows that survey flight sims are dead.
Navy Fighters, where have you gone? USAF, why won't you run on XP?

Ah yes. Janes was fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
USAF, ATF Gold, FIghters Anthology...
That series got it all just perfect. It always seemed just the right blend of realism and user friendliness.
The fact that you could further modify each game just added to their appeal.

Janes games used to be all over the place. When I bought my PII PC back in the day flight sims were numerous. Time passed and my computer got old. Finally got a new one and now flight sims are few and far between. I'm enjoying Lock On some, Wings Over Europe and Enemy Engaged 2, but seems the day of the "big title" flight sim is over.
I'm looking forward the DCS upcoming games, especially the A-10, but it's sad there are so few games. Most that are out don't look much better than games did in 1998. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Omg just noticed this thread. I still have both my disk and my first editon pilot manual for ATF circa 1996. This thing is an inch thick lulz. If any one wants to play we can start getting IP's and tips for instalation up on this and get some early practice for this.

Are those thirdwire games any good? How close are they to the Janes classics?
I bought Falcon 4.0: AF, and it is killing me! I'm trying to tune the realism to be more like Janes: somewhat sim, but not TOO complicated. Not much luck so far. Only on day 2 so far though.
To Atuday, I wish I still had my copy of Fighters Anthology. Don't know where it went, but I don't have it. Anyone know of a place to pick it up? That would rock!

you can try DID EF2000(NOT EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON).
it can meet your requirement.

I've got Wings Over Europe and I enjoy it a lot. It's not a hardcore sim like LOMAC, but it's not arcade either. It'll work with Vista, but you need to tweak it some (easily done, instructions on the internet easily found). It's a little more sim-like than OGF in some ways, but different. Also very customizable in the options so you can change it up a lot to make it harder or easier while learining it.

I used to play Jane's USAF and Jane's F/A-18 a lot, back in the day.
Now I have Lock On Gold around, but I'm waiting for something new...
Eagle Dynamics' next series (the Digital Combat Simulator) seems nice, but will have the same problem that Lock On had at first: No multicore support, unless they changed it.
Not to mention I want a jet, not a chopper. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

There will be other fixed wing aircrafts in DCS after they've released the Black Shark, A-10, and the AH-64 Apache. They say something like a new flyable aircraft every 9 months.
And yeah, I used to play Jane's F/A-18, USAF, and Fleet Command. It's sad that Jane's no longer makes games. Hopefully we'll see a F/A-18E/F in DCS in the future, as the Superhornet is one of my favorite warplanes.

I'm waiting for the A-10, can't wait to see that. The Apache after that will be a must own too. Just no interest in the KA-50, although the videos look incredible. Strong temptation to get TrackIR.

KA-50 does look very nice though:

Because JANES Combat Simulations got bought up by EA and then killed off.

yea, they can't add the F/A-18 in DCS because some of the avionics are still classified. Same with Fighterops which also looks amazing, but will be coming out in modules of two planes per module.

Black Shark? Give me a break. I learned LOMAC two years ago. After investing a whole lot of time it got real fun. They're still waiting for Black Shark with baited breath back at the LO forums http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. Got sick of waiting and switched to Rainbow six/Vegas for my rainy days. To be honest, the HAWX looks so so without the cockpit.
