Detail of notes 'keys/legend' etc not in manual. Where are they?

I searched through the manual and all the instructional vids and I don't see anything that shows the player/user how open notes, hammer-ons, pull-offs etc are displayed in the song 'crawl'. In other words I see an open low E string with an 'X' in the middle of it, I assume is a muted note but where can I find the discriptions in the game?? If it went over it at the beggining of the game, I didn't see it and now I can't even get back to the beggining to check.

Anyone know where it is or how to start over without erasing my progress??

If you are following "The Journey", they are shown in a short video after the song in which they are introduced. The videos are also available in the Techniques section.

Really? Man I swear I thought I saw every vid in the techniques section. (I am in the journey section btw) So after the song in journey mode, it just prompts the next song but I assume then that you have other options? I'll have to take a detailed look.
