Quick question, do you turn off anti-virus and Spyware guard before you play? Does it slow down game?

Depends on your system and the software. I keep my firewall/AV software on 24/7 and don't have game problems. They do eat up resources though so slower systems will see the problem first. Mine is just middle of the road (2gig Ram, 256k vid card) and it does fine.

Same for me, I have had no problems with firewalls or AV with the game

Antivirus and Spyware should only kick in when you load/run files via network or local HDisk.

The game usually runs to a large degree on your graphics card, which the cpu pushing data around. You might find that a new file loaded (from a recent Mod installation) might cause a game stutter as these software peices should keep track of files that it has checked.

This game stutter can be the cause of the end of your career if it pops up at the wrong moment.

Solution:
In your Process tag of Windows Task Manager (Ctl-Alt-Del) you can elliminate all unwanted processes. Right click on each and 'End Process Tree'. If it pops up with a message saying that it's a 'Critical System Process' and cannot delete it - then don't. This way you'll get RID of all that junk that you don't need on your PC.

I run a "low end system", and I always shut down all unnecessary applications and processes.

It helps a lot on the older machines.

I run McAfee AV and the hardware firewall on the router and have no problems. If you want to shut down unwanted processes, have a look at a utility called "fsautostart". Very useful.
