What if this war were to go down today?
Would it be the over extended and understaffed U.S. Army? The bankrupt Russians? or the disoraganized EU nations?
I'm going to go with we blow ourselves up and its a tie.

America's Military would probably be sucsessful because it would be post Pearl Harbor all over again. Americans would join up the economy would boom again because of need for tanks and equipment. But this scenario could possibly happen to Russia to and if Russia's economy became strong enough it would be a extremely tough war that would probably end in nukes being used.
I don't know much about Europes forces but they wouldn't be weak by any means. The only problem is for them to get together and then organize and became a strong mobile force that would be able to fight off two major super powers. Also, Europe would probably be one of the main places of battle so they would get bombed to the ground. Hard to maintian infrastructure and support armys when your destroyed.

The problem with it going down today, is that it would probably be NATO vs Russia. Especially now since Russia would probably invade eastern europe.

Alaska does'nt really have strategic value except for the fact that due to popular demand the military will have to take it back drawing forces away from more vital areas, but with the terrain a smaller defending force could hold off a larger invading force, and canada can hold its own look how they have been doing against the taliban.

Russia would never go through Alaska, it's a living hell hole. Snow, ice, mountains, and rough terrain. Their safest bet would go through Europe, but they'd be stopped by EU and NATO in a heart beat.

Don't be so easily convinced. Russia is much more vast than anyone can possibly imagine. Two great military minds, Napoleon and Hitler, both failed to see this. Their campaigns into Russia were their downfall. They might not come close to taking down the US, but we'd sure as hell take a long time to eliminate all of Russia's home army.

But seriously guys. NATO vs RUSSIA is actually impossible. Why? Because do you really believe that if US declare war on Russia - the whole NATO will launch an attack on us. We've got 1.5 million army, 12K nukes, 100K tanks etc. This isn't the 1992 with total collaps. This is 2007. Huge number of money is spent on weapons right now. And if NATO will declare war on RUssia, hawe you forgotten about SCO? China and other asian allies will help us.
And the last. The number of Russian and USA nuckes is enough to destroy the world. Who wants to take that risk?

Actually I don't want to get you guys riled up and start some heated political discussion, but SkyraptorRUS is right about the movies, books and culture giving us a slanted view of Russia.
I've got to say growing up during the Cold War, watching the May Day parades on TV in Red Square made me think that Russia was a very militarized society.
Well a couple of years ago I went to Moscow and the small village where my wife's from about an hour's plane ride from the capital. Anyway, despite the fall of the Berlin War and the end of the Cold War, I was really expecting to see a society that was very militarized and glamourized miliary power. Surprisingly to me, that was not the case. Yes Russia has national pride and like all countries takes joy in its military prowess and image, but I have to say I think the US is a much more miliaristic culture than Russia.
Before you guys bash me as a Commie, (which I've always thought was a silly insult, since most people who label others like that, don't know much about the political structure of countries), as I've said in other threads a holistic worldview and appreciation of cultures and ideas is what makes America great. When we cease to do this, we should stop trying to portray ourselves as the example to others to follow.

China will not help you unless it benefits them. Maybe everyone thinks russia will attack because they do things like pull out of the conventional arms treaty. The russian military is severaly under staffed, and short on cash. I think we might be friends when bush is out of office and czar Putin dies but then he will be replaced by a family member so maybe not.

I don't know about your Bush, but what does our president Putin has to do with it? BusH isn't a popular president in the US.
However 83% of Russians support Vladimir Putin. Because that drunk moron Yeltcin was only drinking and prostituting his country to the West, killing Russia. The whole world was laughing at us because of him. Thank God Putin came to power.
But sometimes it's very hard to understand why people in the world hate him? It's very strange. When Putin warns about installing US missiles on the Russian boarder - nobody listens to him. But when Putin says that Russia will defend itself and target European military bases - then everyone stasts screaming about "evil bloody Pu regime who wants to kill people, democracy and freedom"! And those things just keep coming. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
I'm a fan of political news and read and watch news everyday and I see how strange and sometimes stupid Western partners can be with us.
About that Arms Treat. Putin said in APril that Russia looks like the only country who respects that treaty. While Russia was withdrawing it's forces and decreasing it's military, NATO was creating new military bases near our boarders. And what should we do?! Just sit there and watch. Nope...That treaty was old and it doesn't help in the current world situation.
SO why must all European countries stop screaming and saying that this was a demarch of power, a sign to the US that Russia is starting a New Cold War etc. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

If Sergei Lugovoy is innocent why don't you let him be tried in a court of law if england has no evidence he will just be let free and show how stupid they are. Oh by the way thanks for the laugh about russia respecting their constitution. About the people who don't like Putin getting killed, I don't actually think putin did it I think it was his supporters. I would'nt turn over someone fighting for the chechens either since they are brave freedom fighters especially when they have to deal with the war crimes russian soldiers commit on a daily basis. I don't get why russia is backing out of treaties over a defensive system that is not in their territory. I think one reason we have problems with the russians is because they only understand one thing, force from their history you will see that they always have dictators over them. About the U.S. taking your oil, how about you look at china thats the main reason they are in the SCO because they want your resources, and remember the SCO is not a military organization. For example Iran recently became an observer in the SCO, if we were to invade them would you come to their aid, I think not. Oh and by the way we did'nt pull out of the arms treaty you did. It is a conventional arms treaty that limits the amount of tanks and troops that can be in europe, so far everybody has respected that treaty but you.

EVIDENCE that it was Putin who killed who people. Actually if Putin really killed those *******s - that's good. I would kill them too.
They were pro-western ***-lickers! If you are against Putin - then you are against Russia itself. He turned a third-world country (thx Yelcin) To a mighty economical country. You say that now, but I say give it five years. Five years from now, China is going to be even more pressed to find resources....
Lemme put it this way. Russia may have taken Siberia hundreds of years ago, but down the road, China may want that back, if you know what I mean http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif.

Russia is becoming more and more aggressive towards the Western world everyday just read the news today. Putin's a fool who has the support of his brainwashed comrades thats all this is. Trying to bring the old "greatness" back to Russia. Sounds like what Hitler said to his fellow Germans when he said the Nazi's would bring back pride and respect into Germany.

Well, even if they was war between Russia and China, I doubt (unless a country was certain to lose) nukes would be launched by Russia, since China does have nuclear bombs (Not confirmed [I don't think...], mind you, but sattilites [**** spelling] have seen some strange buildings in the middle of the vastness of Western China).

I don't know where you heard Bush is the Hitler of the 21 century but he's not. Bush isn't the best president in the world and he did start a controversial war (let's not get into that) but the one thing he hasn't done is killed millions of innocent people haha so I think that comparison is alittle false. But the thing about you Russians is your oblivious to your goverment and its aggressive actions not to say America hasn't flexed its muscle in the last century, but the scary thing is you all support the policy, this hard line aggressive policy that if keeps going is going to lead to some type of confrination. What makes America so great is half the time we hate our goverment and thats the greatness of democracy (even though were more of a republic). Most Americans hate the policies that have been made and see what is happening to our country because of them (most not at all). So we change them by changing our leadership threw a democratic proccess. I think what the scariest thing that can be said is that if your a history buff and you look at pree World War II Germany you'll see alot of the same things in Russia today. A leader with the support of almost an entire population that is promising revitalization, a people that want to see their nation be great again, a not great economy but not good economy, and an aggressive sneaky foreign policy....which includes breaking of arms treaties which the Nazi's did to build up their army again. I think you should open your eyes before history repeats its self.

We're not the world how to live, what to do etc. It's just Russia has always been an strong country. Even 700 years before USA were even created. The political and economical crysis in 1989 made Russia that position....but only for a period of time. And that's what makes US and Eu angry that Russia is getting stronger again.
There was a huge scandal yesterday. Our Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavor wanted to make a speach in "The New York Times" (if I'm not mistaking) to describe to Europeans and Americans Russia policy. And you what? The NYT cut off 40% of the text and edited the left one so much that it seamed that Lavrov is warning the West that Russia will destroy everyone that'll stay in it's way.
Also we have a cool web site www.inosmi.ru (http://www.inosmi.ru). It's a site where all international newspapers are translated into Russian. Every day there is about 15 new articles. 14 are always nothing more than obscenity, clownery, only angry screams and nothing more. Only blaming Russia for all the crimes in the world.
And you call us the new Nazi Germany. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

the enemy he is lashing out against is the people his country lost to ( the west especially america) and a call to arms now as far as there being a massive effort to eliminate a ethnic group im not sure but hey theres still time.

COld War we've lost politically. All the military conflict during CW period we've won - Korea, Vietnam etc.
Putin is spending a lot of money on military TO DEFEND RUSSIA FROM UNITED STATES AND NATO. The number of oil is dropping very fast but have oil and gas for...500 years! Don't tell that when allot the world's oil and gas resources are gone, US, EU will not declare war on Russia to get them?! yeah right...C. Rise already said that she wants Russia to give Siberia to the whole world and stop using energy resources as "political weapon" (EVIDENCE, EVIDENCE, EVIDENCE!!!!!!!!????????)
After first phase of cold war was over we thought that west would help us. But noooo...the west humaliated us, laught at us, our destroyed country, our drunk president that they've put in Kremlin. Thats why they loved Yelcin - cuz he gave them away Russia.
And when Putin came to power and started rebuilding "Russian Empire" the west started it's info-war on Russia, describing it as a dangerous and evil country with KGB mean president. Not to mention the lies about not spreading NATO to the East. NATO gave us a promise. WHERE IS IT? They lied. They can not be trusted.
What do you want us to do? Just sit there and watch as US takes over the world?! No way...We may have lost the battle i the cold war but not the war itself. We hoped that this cold war was over but it seems that US and EU want to continue it...
And don't say that my brain is washed by "Putins propoganda". Everyone in Russia knew along time ago...
Russia wants to be a friend to the world. But it seems that your countries would like to talk to Russia only as master to slave. Woun't happend, my friends. Times have changed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif PEACE (god help us all)

Well if you actually look at the past statements logically you'll see that your government is acting in very similar ways and I never said Russian's didn't hate Germany or anything of that matter so I don't even know why that's being brought up. Your listening to your national pride and corrupt government not to say America's government hasn't become increasing corrupt but America's government doesn't create camps in which the youth is brainwashed to say "....know I realize how fascist all the other countries are." Or lie about military spending to boost nationalism, and your country isn't as great as your government says it is, it's just a brainwashing machine and Russia's stunt by planting that flag is the most ludicrous thing ever. This isn't the 18th century countries can't just go walk around and claim land and your governments reasoning that there is a under ground bridge or what ever. That is like saying that because the Atlantic Ocean touches Europe and touches America that it is rightfully America's or vice versa (but let's not get into that). The sad truth is that even though the rest of the world thinks America's military is suffering because of Iraq that's false and there's plans to expand and break down our military into smaller brigades and there's a whole rejuvenation plan already starting in which more soldiers will be added, Stryker brigades, and entire modernization is occurring. However, unless your government comes up with a couple trillion dollars your status in power will not change for the next 20 years plus. That's the facts.
P.S. SkyRaptor earlier you said that Russia won all the CW military like in past conflicts....I hope your country didn't forget about Afghanistan...

Yes, history will always remember that it was Russian ideology that triumphed in the cold war . . .
pfft.
The US has no desire to fight the cold war again because pretty much everyone except irrational Russian nationalists agrees that the US won, and as a result the Russian people won as well because their government fell and was replaced by one that was far better to its citizens.
Unfortunately Russian politicians seem hell-bent on rewriting history and trying to start a new cold war in the hopes that with their new strategic petroleum reserves and capitalist economy they can . . . what? What are they going to accomplish? Will Europe and the US realize the error of their ways in switch their democracies out for shiny new authoritarian regimes? Will Russia's posturing convince the west that the best way to ensure freedom is by assassinating reporters that tell stories you don't want told?
Don't get excited Russia, NOBODY thinks you are worth fighting over, you just don't matter that much anymore.

We've defeated the WEST in military conflicts, not Afghanistan. And We had to pull out because of the crysis in the country

Don't get excited Russia, NOBODY thinks you are worth fighting over, you just don't matter that much anymore.
oh yes we do. We've hot the biggest territorym oilm gas, other resources and we want to take Arctic once we'll PROOF it belongs to us. Like we care what Canada says "it belongs to canada only". Yeah right... no evidence - say bye bye.
I don't care how much the whole world hates Putin and out goverments but I love them, they're rebuilding Russia and it's army. Soon there will be new bases in Syria and US dominence will end.
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gifI don't hate USA but I do hate how they treat us. They think we are barberians etc. They kept NATO growing, they are planning to install missile system near our borders. It's like you neighbor would be able to hear your talking at home and see your house throuwh the wall. And your goverments keeps saying real BULL**** that this system is against IRan and N Korea. THEY THINK WE ARE NUTS?!?!?!
Iran already said that has got to be the best joke in 2006.
You guys are in big trouble. Your economy is in crysis and instead of being REAL ALLIES you still try to make our life difficult. Not you exactly but your presidents etc. What is your business in Georgia?! THat ***-licker makes me sooo maaad...russophobic moron. What is your business in Ukraine and other former USSR countries. THEY ARE IN OUR AREA OF INTERESTS. MAybe moron Yelcin (burn in hell, *****!!!) did sell a lot of Russia but Putin will take everything back that is ours. And he doesn't want a new phase of cold war. It looks like NATO wants it. "order and democracy" near our borders? Oh...thats a greeeeeeat order to bomb Yugoslavia, start illegal war in Iraq, bomb iraqi and afghanian cities every week and killing since 2003 - 350 000 peoople in IRaq.
I do believe that not all of you support your goverments in their informational anti-russian war but know this - we will defend our selves. Many countries tried to conquer us - all of them were defeated. ALL WHO ATTACKED US!
DO NOT make their mistake...

This thread alone causes me great concern that war between the US and Russia is far more socially acceptable than it should be.
Americans in general view Russia as an allied or neutral country that has occasional differences (much like France or Germany). But Russia seems downright frightened that the US is going to invade them to take their resources or instigate a regime change.
I can understand why you believe that, but even at the height of the Cold War invading or attacking Russia directly was never an option unless things completely fell apart in the European theater. America is certainly paranoid about terrorism, and often we act out on our allies as a result, but no American views Russia as an enemy.
The US has failed to make many of the grand gestures that we should have made. Inviting Russia into NATO (even if they don't accept) at least shows that NATO is no longer an anti-Russian organization, it is an anti-instability (anti-terrorist or failed state) organization.
Russia should have been included in the Anti-Ballistic Missile system to begin with. Some would say this is foolish because Russia would sell the technology to defeat the system to Iran or North Korea or anyone else that could afford it. But even in the worst case, having Russia as an ally is more important than defense against a rogue nation.
Because with Russia (and the EU) as a true ally, no rogue nation would be able to exist with our combined influence turned against them. If the most influential nations in the world are able to reach a common understanding then the rest of the world will eventually follow.

On a side note, in order for the earth to biologically maintain a European standard of living for the entire human population indefinitely, the human population would have to be no greater than approximately 2.5 billion. Maybe 3 billion if new technology allows us to dramatically reduce the amount of oil, topsoil, and groundwater we use, as well as the amount of carbon dioxide we produce. By 2050 the estimated global population will reach 10 billion. Happy hunting commanders . . .

Listen I'm sorry... I don't want a WW3 for secure of my country but it's just in our minds...We Russians are huge patriots and we see how the world treats us.
Just 2 days ago Georgia comided another anti-russia move. They say there were 1,2 or 3 (they cant count?) Mig-23, Su-24,su-25 (they cant tell the planes?!?!) that dropped bombs on their CORN FIELD?!
OH YEAH..a greeeeeat move for Russia - bombing a georgian corn field - that will teach them a lesson! And it didn't blow up...
and yesterday they've destroyed that missile not even showing it. HAHAHA! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif still believe them?
And Georgia wanted to call in an urgent UN meating to tell the world how "dangerous and vile the new Russia is"
DISCUSTING http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
And US goverment told Russia yesterday to leave Georgia alone. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gifIt's 100% clear - Washington is supporting anti-russian regimes in Europe...
Oh come on...you have to agree adliest in that! Estonia president who calls Soviet veterans murders and criminals, Georgian president call Russia an agressive country who wants to take over Georgia (few hundred years ago GEorgia beged RUssia to save her from Turkey and now they are saying that Russia has always been a murderer)
THere is war going on right now. Information war against Russia. The target is to make RUssia look like the world most dangerous country. Country that doesn't respect other cultures and nations, country that wants to destroy democracy and conquer neighbor countries, country that supports terrorism and is a threat to the whole world!
That's why Kremlin is acting. THat's why new weapon system are being develepoed, that's why an anti-western reaction in Russia. We see threat in you...

Maybe the Georgian popcorn machine blew up and they had to blame someone... At least here the news cast only say what everyone is saying, they are very reluctant to take sides (yeap there are still neutral people). Even that way it becomes dificult to trust either side. Even if a spy dies or if someone says in a story that part of 700 NGO's in Russia are US funded. It makes think. You simply have to cool down if you want to prove you're right. Reacting to provocations it's just what triggers the fuse, specially to the Americans. Those guys are paranoid. I read somewhere that more than half of international military aid during cold war as supplied by the americans. And those Baltic states, men they are very racist. Some Portuguese we're drunk and made some jokes with one of their national flags, what caused them to be arrested imediatly (disreguarding drunkness status). If we would arrest every tourist that comes here and causes trouble we wouldn't have tourism for a start.
Has I said we should all sit and smoke some hemp to clear our minds LOL!
And again let me renew the topic of this forum What IF: The guys of Ubisoft in some latter editions put some more political blocs on the move? that would be cool! Having other campaings in different scenarios...

Nah..I don't believe that is Russia that bombed it. If RUssia wanted the "flex muscles", I think our fighter would just fly on low altitude and on high speed over presidents house or smth like that... but bombing cornfield... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
abot last seconds of life..how are going to spend them? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif on this forum also?
WE SHOULD CREATE AN EMERGENCY THREAT HERE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AVZALABLE ONLY WHEN WW3 BEGINS! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It didn't bomb a cornfield the missle was directed toward a radar station...it was a radar seeking missile but the Georgians turned off the radar after seeing it, thus making the missile loose contact with the station and falling out of the sky like most of Russian technology http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. I kid of course...don't want to get you Russians all angry of course...

BTW: did you ever see a police line in TWO MEETRES AWAY FROM MISSILE CRATER?
Still thinking if it's a georgian anti-russian stuff? Who would put a police line in 2 meetres from unexploded misisle and let people get close to it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

I don't fully understand the point your making, but if they did do that it was probably deactivated and now is treating it like international crime scene....which it is, and I'm not taking sides with either country because theres still alot of unanswered questions I was just saying what has been confirmed by the Georgian goverment and people at the UN.

well Georgia is an Independent country they do whatever they want with their country that's w~hat independence is all about. But it's tru that 2 meter range the camera took. If I was the camera man I wouldn't get close by. That would be insane. And yeah why didn't they shown up the missile I mean that would be a good evidence to show to the UN instead all that **** Powell showed about IRaq. Yes it's scratch one dictator but quite a meaningless fight nowadays. To many decent americans (and allies), and iraquis shiite and sunni got riped off with that Iraq campaign. It would have been better if the UN had intervined on their interess (safeguarding human rights).
And the Georgian goverment is a little bit insane too. I mean messing with russia. And Russia should show some despise. Everybody knows about the ABM shield the US wants to install near the middle east. Around here that missile story is well forgotten.

Russia would go into alaska for morale purposes then use canada as a strategic advantige in the north and push in east europe. America would be allies with europe and help defend it . europe would hold off the russians with enough american support. But the americans must keep their eye on south america becuase the russians will use it against them. Canada will hold off the russians for some time but not long becuase canada only posses's 100,000 armed troops. but if given time it will expand to 500'000 and may stop the rusian advance entirely. But in the end america and europe would fall becuase of demoralization and a superior force from china russian and japan. These are theories provided by recent events and the poor american economy . which will only get weaker because of it international trades.

China wouldn't team up with Japan and Russia. Japan would team up with the US and Europe. If the chinese would team with anyone then it would be like a merciful alliance, I spare you, you help me. If china would get in the way India would like to say something since it's very sligthy pro-western (they ARE the world's biggest democracy).
