When I start the game I get a white screen with green menu lettering. I can't click on anything and it seems to just lock up. I can hear the menu radio chatter stuff.....But I cant run the game. If anyone has any info on this problem or can steer me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance .

Hello. Yes, I too have this same exact problem.

Only once when I explored the LOCKON disc and installed the Directx *9.0b* was i able to get into the game. I clicked fly on the eagle and it CTD at a lower resolution( norm 1600x1200) and when I when to resize the system locked up.

To get out of the green letter lockup I pressed the search quick key on my keyboard, it took me to desktop, I then ctrl+alt+delete and then shut the program down.

I have unistalled both the game and demo, thinking that maybe there was a conflict, and reinstalled lomac, I am still getting the green letter lockup.

I only have four programs running in the background, explorer, systray, point32, and speedkey.

Specs are as follows:
Intel D850MV mobo
Intel 1.6 gig P-4
512 MB rdram
Visiontek GeForce 4 4600 128 mb 45.23 drivers
Creative Audigy Gamer 24-bit
Creative 52x cd-rom
O.S. WIN 98SE
MS keyboard/mouse/sidewinder precision2

I too would also appreciate any help.

Hello.
Using the following address: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On I found a EXE. titled EXTRACT TEXTURES, it appeared to be a DOS program, but ran so fast I cannot say what it did exactly. it has gotten me past the green letter lockup.

I went to fly the eagle, the progress bar fully loaded and then locked up. no way out except to hold power button for 5 secs to shut the uresponsive system down.

I have noticed that the wordpad readme on the hard drive (same address as above) performs an illegal operation when I access it, but the readme in text document does work. I have confirmed that other wordpad documents on my hard drive do work.

On the lomac disc in the util file there is a EXE. titled DEOGG, anyone know what this does? I'm going to keep trying to get lomac to play. I will probobly find out what DEOGG does the hard way, I will report back with my trials and errors later.

Again, if anyone is having the same problem and have solved it please, please help. Thanks.

Well, I've tried everything I can think of to get it to play and still getting lockups.

I changed desktop res. fro 1600x1200 to 1024x768 and color from 32 to 16 bit, it didn't help.

I double clicked the DEOGG exe. I described above and it didn't do anything at all.

I am not running my firewall or anti-virus at all.

Sometimes I can get to the main menu but it locks up when loading (the ground crew giving the thumbs up to the eagle driver).

I will not go out and buy XP. I am not going to save 40 cd-r's of info. I don't think anyone can say with any certainty that XP will be a problemless upgrade, and not cause problems with my other programs an my hard drive.

From what I understand about the 98se and Xp os' is that the both use a different "kernel" so I am under the impression that this problem will not be able to be patched. Please, if I am wrong, PLEASE let me know.

If it is patchable, please ETA when it could happen.

I am not happy(i hope folks understand why) and am lookin at the next 5-6 days, for either a patch or taking it back. Gamestop/Babbages has a 7 day return policy...even on opened products.

I will be reading the boards and keeping up with any info that is posted.

If you are having problems, good luck getting it to work.
If you are playing it, congratulations.
I do look forward to playing LO:MAC.

For the record, I agree with you 100%. This is a Win98/ME issue, one of several.

The solution AFAIK is simply to restart the computer and reboot Lock On. About every second try, the main menu appears.

For other Win98/ME discussion, please see the thread:

Hope this helps,

I'm back to getting the white screen with green letters of death. But even when I was able to get into the menu's and start a mission, The graphics were screwed up with no engine sound and locked up shortly.
I'm running win98se. Apparently not compatable. (%$#@!)
