Well, The power supply gave up the farm on one of my machines the other day.
I hope nothing else bought it along with it, but if it did oh,well its just an old file sever.

Now I have about a dozon Compaq power supplies just laying around gathering dust, don't ask, but I had this machine built for me a few years ago.
Now even tho the voltage, amps ect all match, the main connector to the motherboard is different.

My question is what are my chances of success if I rewire the connector for the non-Compaq board?

I installed a different psu than what came on my Dell 4550. It didn't have a power connection for thr mobo. So I went to a mom-n-pops comptuer store and bought an adapter that went from a 4-pin molex connector to the 3-pin mobo connection. Actually, the connector that connected to the mobo looked like a square 4-pin connector, it only had three wires going to it.

Well I have the connector from the original power supply.
I'll have to look to see if I can actually open it up and seat the wires in, I'm not even going to consider a splice.
Other than that, looks like a trip to Radio Shack.

An Adapter you say? plugged into the board then the psu plugged into it?
Didn't know they made those.

I just wish they'd come up with some sort of standard for connectors..
I've got an older tv card I'd like to install, but have run into the same problem with the data input cable.
At least all is not lost..assuming the board wasn't fried.

I just want to see if I can get it.....(<span class="ev_code_YELLOW"> edited for fear the phrase I used may spark some juvenile remarks</span>) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif..... up <span class="ev_code_RED">and running http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif</span> again with parts I already have.
It doesn't deserve anymore money invested in it.

Thanks
I found a psu with a compatable plug already on it.

Never throw your old computers out untill you've salvaged everything http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The part I needed was sitting in the basement the whole time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
