View Full Version : Voice recognition?

In one of the Dev-Chats they stated, that an early version of some voice-recognition code (where you could give orders via microphone) was included in the game back then.
Is it still there?

Are all of the basic commands accessible via key-shortcuts, thus allowing to operate the boat using 3rd-party software like Gamecommander or Gamevoice?

Well I see this topic is being avoided like the plague.
I too am an advocate fer vox.
If the sarch worked you would find a thread on this. Maybe on page 15-20 by now.
I judge from silence that it has indeed been forsaken. Tis a shame.
in time it may be modded in.
It could've been so simple as there are only so many variants.
But to model in all those plus tone of voice like socom does may hae been too diff to implement. Or perhaps bein that the focus was on the dyn. cam. it was sidelined.
Who knows.
But lets hope fer a mod!!

Cool doesn't even begin to describe what it would do fer this sim.
Being as it is a crew sim in essence why not have a dozen or so with specific throw offs of each.
Plus have tone of voice like socom has and "BAM!!" as Emiril says you have just "kicked it up a notch!!"
Besides how did most orders get carried out?
Through a button or through a c.o. havin a backbone and a voice?!

Well, if at least somebody that played the game could tell me if most commands are accessible with key-shortcuts....

Well, if push comes to shove, there's always a free voice recognition program called "SHOOT" if you haven't heard of it yet.

If interested, follow the yellow brick road:

I thought voice recognition was pretty much a waste of time in games - until I tried it in Dangerous Waters, where its absolutely brilliant.

I think the main difference from flightsims and action games where I'd tried it before is that in a Naval sim you have just that bit more time that you don't have to rush. Its just so cool sitting back in your chair, giving orders and hence controlling your sub with pretty much the correct syntax (rather than abreviations). It takes a while to learn, but its well worth it - as it would have been in SH3. I hope it gets added later.

I'd love voice command just as a means to practicing my German (I'd buy a program that used German). In all other respects I can take it or leave it. In the past it caused me to lose a few games of C:AoD as I restated orders five or six times while it constantly misheard them, so I'm not all that convinced that it would work.

Practicing your German? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Im trying to think of a situation on holiday when you would need to say "all ahead full!"

or "Dive dive dive!"

or "Blow all tanks, man the deck gun!!!"

Unless you meet some really kinky german girls http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Why do they have to be 'kinky' to do that? That's normal. At least with the red lighting turned on it is.

guys, i´ve been playong sh2 with gamecommander and i must say it is astonishing. It gives a new dimension to the game. And as for recognition problems, its part of the past now, because you can record your own voice and it recognizes 99,8% of the commands given.
I am looking forward to see if most of the functions are accessible via keyboard.

I understand you use voice command with german.
Is it usefull with SH3, and so how can I get it.

Believe me gents you'll feel silly after finishing for dinner and listen to some orders yelled out of the kitchen like "chop those onions", "prepare heater one, set stage four", or "knife, knife, knife"...

It was the reaction of my wife after a voice command gaming-afternoon to show me what it sounds like when you're talking to some equipment.
She was even wearing the headset of her musicplayer.

It could have been much worse. Imagine you're setting up for a convoy attack and your wife walks past the computer and yells "BLOW BALLAST!! AHEAD FLANK!!" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif
