View Full Version : Stability poll! How did your system handle SH3?

Works fine for me! Minor graphics glitches... but I'm running an ATI Radeon 9000, so I'm quite pleased with the preformance! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great Game, runs awesome on a ATI 9800 Pro.
03-23-2005, 03:06 PM
im amazed after readeing all the posts, its only crashed once so far and that is because of the save game bug, the game has other problems, destroyers dying when they ram you, it really should be the other way about.
The NVIDIA bug, annoying, but at least there is a workaround, i really hope they get the save bug fixed as doing a career seems to be a bit dodgy just now.
And Starforce wasnt too bad, it takes a minute or two to kick in, so tis bearable...just!!!
03-23-2005, 03:08 PM
Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I've had an immense amount of fun over the past week with it.
The downside is I get the popping sound (Audigy 2 Gamer) problem even with the tweaks suggested in the tech support forum. Most of the time this occurs in the free camera mode while moving near the sub.
I've also gotten two BSOD while playing the game but I'm not sure it is the game's fault. Ironically both occurred while nothing was going on really. Once in the Museum mode while I was switching from one ship to the next and the other time when I had the german audio enabled. Needless to say I haven't used the museum nor do I have the german audio enabled anymore.
03-23-2005, 03:12 PM
Well I voted fer Number 1 as it did install w/o a hitch.
And it runs just fine fer me.
I am with Gecko on the starforce initialize time period.
Sometimes it passes starforce in a few seconds and sometimes it takes upwards of 3 minutes.
But I can wait cuz I just enjoy the helloutta it.
I have a 5950 ultra and besides the usual suspects in the graphics category I love this SIM!!
03-23-2005, 03:15 PM
Looking good here! One freeze since the day it was released. About 60 or so gameplay hours ago....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

No CTD's, lockups or other such critical bugs encountered so far. Installation was smooth too. But I simply got lucky this time around. I guess the gods owed me after I had to wait for a patch before I could get past the splash screen in the last ubi game I bought (LOMAC). Only bugs I've found so far are the graphical bug that makes the Uzo unusable for Nvidia users and some bad damage modeling when it comes to collisions. Honestly I'm a bit suprised, it is rare these days that I get a new game that actually runs with a high degree of stability. It's so nice to get one that actually works more or less bug free when it comes to stability. I've run this for 16 hours straight once, suffered no performance hit nor did it ever crash.
03-23-2005, 03:32 PM
Just having about 1 CTD every 3 days. Not really a problem for me
03-23-2005, 03:40 PM
The game runs fine. The only time I CTD is when using the crew management icons which is not a problem because I can save before I do it. Without using those icons the game will run for hours without crashing. I expect this problem will be fixed in the first few patches anyway.
03-23-2005, 03:48 PM
When it works and that’s not a criticism it’s absolutely fantastic. My first mission played well but crashed when the screen went all rainbow on me and it restarted the machine I could not get it to reload so gave it a miss http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif, loaded it up the next day and it ran flawless through the end of my 1st mission even my second was great apart from my shooting (5 torps on one cargo and it was flat cam and I still missed) the only small gripe was lines appeared in the wake and at the side of my boat in a storm but that’s another post. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
Third mission started in the dock and before I could get a move on it crashed just before some graphics triangles appeared around the crew then bang it crashed, so went and had a good old battle in battlefield 1942 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Give it a few patches and it will be stable, we know the team work hard and its good to know there onboard.
03-23-2005, 03:50 PM
Installed just fine, played about 2 days without a problem and now I am getting shutdown failures. Right at the worst posssible times. Brand new computer and have run all diagnostics, only happens with this game.
03-23-2005, 03:58 PM
I have the downloaded version (From Direct2drive) and it installed fine. I have only just completed the navigation exam but so far so good. I love this game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Last sub game I played was CAOD
Did I mention I love this game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
I am running this on an AMD64 3000+ / 1024 MB 400dual DDR Ram / ATI 9600 Pro 128MB / Asus A8V board / WinXP Pro SP2 / Viewsonic 19" P95f Monitor.
I see the Starforce drivers are installed, haven't noticed any change in my system because of them.
Back to my training now...
03-23-2005, 04:17 PM
I had one CTD, but that could have been due to changing video options and continuing to play without restarting the game. Since then, no problems.
03-23-2005, 04:19 PM
The game keeps crashing. And when it crashes I have to reboot.
I have 1024Mb memory and 20gig free drive space.
03-23-2005, 04:47 PM
75% of the time I quit the game it's due to CTD.
I CTD about once an hour or less.
03-23-2005, 05:46 PM
No problem installing, no problem running, I had 1 CTD on day 1 but that's because my PC overheated and shut itself off, so instead of blaming the game for a completely independent external factor, I'll assume it was my fault, cooling fixed now.
If any devs read through this, I haver only one thing to tell you: THANKS!!!
This is the ultimate sub sim EVER, please remember 90% of the players are busy playing the game because, just like me, it works perfectly on their machine, so don't think "we" are "all" facing the issues posted on this board.
03-23-2005, 06:19 PM
Very good sim!
Lotta fun so far and no problems!
03-23-2005, 07:15 PM
A little hassle getting it to initially run. Was a problem with ReForce. I have Reforce set to 100 mhz in 1024 x 768. That's where I like it for IL 2\Pacific Fighters. But SH3 won't run on my Nvidia card unless I set it to the same mhz as my desktop 1152 x 864 at 75 mhz. Maybe this + more video modes is something that's coming in a future patch.
03-23-2005, 07:18 PM
runs rock solid ati 9800 and p4 2.8 ghz
i used powerstrip and created a game profile for it to o/c the video card and add AA and AF 4/2 when the game runs. quite handy.
03-23-2005, 07:19 PM
See my "PLEASE READ THIS EVERYONE .." report here and in tech help area. *grin
03-23-2005, 08:56 PM
True, very true. But check this out:
Operating System: Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Micron
System Model: PIII 733 Mhz Intel Coppermine
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel PIII 733 Coppermine
Memory: 512MB RAM
Video Card: Nvidia 5900 Ultra
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c
And still it runs great. Oh a little choppy in port around all the land graphics, but hey by rights it shouldn't even run on this or not this well. And, worse yet this PC's mobo is capped at a 2x AGP. Like sucking ah, puddin, yeah that's it puddin, through a straw. And still it runs. I tell ya that dev team are U-Booten animals. The game rocks.
03-23-2005, 09:00 PM
No problems running the game thus far on a P4 @3450 w/9800P.
However , the multiplayer "ready button" does not show on my screen to start the online play .
Well, the figures are reassuring enough for me!
I hope that when I get the game tomorrow, I'll end up in that lucky majority of gamers without problems http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
03-25-2005, 09:23 AM
I posted my system information here. SHIII successful on my systems. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

No crashes, no wierd video card bugs, no freezes. It runs perfectly fine for me, except for the bugs in the game itself. Even then I've only actually confirmed a couple of them.
03-25-2005, 10:43 AM
Runs great except for the particles glitch, but using Ctrl/P solves that. Running an Intel P4 3.2E with a GF FX5600Ultra 256mb card.
Also running a Plextor 712A DVD+-R/RW drive to play the game. No problems after one week of loading the game or with the StarForce check either.
Windows XP Home SP2
Memory: 1044mb 400DDR RAM
03-25-2005, 10:57 AM
It runs fine on my machine...except the UZO thing and two errors that caused a CTD...have had the game since the 16th.
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
03-25-2005, 11:04 AM
Installed w/o problem. Only the NVidia bug w/ Binos and UZO. Other then those, games runs great. Hooked to big screen tv and home theater amp and played for hrs w/o problem. Video looks good on my 19" LCD w/ native res of 1280x1024.
03-25-2005, 11:10 AM
runs perfectly apart from UZO bug.
256 meg video ram
3 year old sytem but I upgraded for SH3 with the memory and vid card
03-25-2005, 11:13 AM
smooooooooth, except choppy in 512/1024 time comp. but I can live with that on my old 'has-been' rig.
03-25-2005, 11:44 AM
The longer I play it the greater chance of a lockup
where I have to reboot. I save constantly and this
bug (if it is a bug?)worries me because its a tough
one to catch(on my end and the devolpers end). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
03-25-2005, 01:26 PM
Only problems I've been having are related to heat in my box, nothing caused by the game.
Max graphics settings, smooth as glass. Only goes choppy when I blast an ammo-loaded ship, due to all the fireworks!
03-26-2005, 07:26 AM
the only thing i can say as a problem is. some times when i click on the conning tower will surfacing my guys are under the water for alittle. it just looks funny thats all. Awsome game though its takeing all my free time. amazing simple amazing. if they add wolf packs. it will out of this world. keep up the good work guys.
03-26-2005, 07:41 AM
It runs just fine for me. I did have a CTD problem in one patrol but I had triple the number (9) of in-mission saves as I normally had (3) prior to that. I have no idea if they're related, but I've kept my saves to three or less and no more CTD.

Chewed it up and spit it out in a good sorta way. Except for a super rare sound bug and the crew placement presets it's all good.

Had one Freeze up and that odd banding effect from viewing from the free cam onto the sub's wake from above.

Big well done to the devs with this game.
Very very very very very satisfied customer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Runs great now after i buy a Soundblaster Live 24 bite soundcard in place of the onboard C-media AC97.

Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mb
Soundblaster Live 24 bit
Win XP Home SP1

-Sound is snapping and popping.
-Game crashes when using auto-assign buttons on the crew screen.
Fix those two and the game will be all ok for me.
04-01-2005, 08:09 AM
No crash yet game runs 70 - 120 fps although 1fps while I dive through the uzo. Save and exit in mission doesnt work found that out the hard way doh. And I can sink a destroyer by letting it ram me then carry on after a repair?

Game installed just fine. I'll get a minor issue here and there, nothing a restart doesn't cure.
After playing for an hour or so, CTDs or hardlocks become an ever increasing worry. My system may be partly to blame for this.
All in all though, nothing that prevents me from enjoying this game.
04-01-2005, 10:15 AM
Original version crashed rather a lot, usually on:
1) Moving crew between stations
2) Following save reload
3) Any Windows program deciding to autorun (Norton AV, M'soft anti spyware schedlued scans etc)
Post 1.1 upgrade it's almost stable - still crashes on any (3) occurrence (and plenty of other Windows games/programs simply minimise and allow maximise/resume on this, this is not a multitasking envirnoment game) and... I have 2 screens, anytime I get to screen edge on #1 the cursor seems to enjoy popping over to #2, if I happen to click the mouse while the cursor isn't on screen one it immediately crashes to desktop with an error report, 100% of the time. I type this having a C2 sunk, a C type DD sunk, a C2 on fire and a Tanker 2 in flames having eaten at least 2 of 4 torps - I'd kinda prefer it hadn't crashed at that point.
1.1 makes it playable - I've done 1 career (dead about patrol 7) and am on patrol 8 in a VIIC currently, so I've played a fair bit.
I recently upgraded to Pentium 4-3Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM, Radeon RX600 Pro (PCI Ex16) graphics due to endless crashes in this and Pacific Fighters - similar crashes with that program too.

The first few days I played with almost no problems but I seem to be getting more and more CTD while moving crew around. I usually play about an hour before it crashes. It installed fine though.

No Problem so far. Decent FPS & no CTDs at all.
04-01-2005, 11:39 AM
Runs perfect at around or above 100 fps unless something explodes big time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Sometimes it freezes for a couple of seconds but then it gets back going, it's relly no big deal.
This game is too good - we are not worthy...

collectively I have about 110GB HD space.
The game runs fine, till there is alot happening, smoke fire. Then it slow down to a crawl. But thats due to the CPU and maybe the RAM.
