Calyber raised an interesting idea in a different thread saying: "if I were a disease, I'd infect people's brains so they're nicer and don't honk their horn right in your ear when your window's down and you're merging onto the freeway in really slow stop and go traffic, causing you to grab a hand full of pennies from your ashtray and fling them out of your sunroof into the windsheild behind you."


First off, Cal, this exists...kind of. There is a type of tumor that causes your body to release excess seratonim (sp?) that causes an increase in endorphins and a constant state of euphoria...It also slowly kills you.

If I were a disease I would be a truth serum of sorts that caused people to stop ****ing around. I would be highly contagious and dormant. Every person would have me at birth and I could become "unlocked" when a certain event happened. I haven't decided what this event is yet which will make me more unpredictable when unleashed upon the human race.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Actually, accurate information is the key to making better decisions. We live in a system of lies because the liars protect and feed off of each other. Truth-sayers have no additional defense against liars if the truth they speak is not well-received. Liars can always tell more lies.

That's great and all, but in an experiment where humanity is the control and "truth disease" is a variable, you are forgetting the fact that we are all, in fact, still human. An unpredictable human with free will, at that.

People can be greedy, by nature. And no matter what kind of truth is out there, people will be gunning for what they benefit from the most, and HOW to gain that benefit. If truth is a constant, there are other clever ways to bend the rules.

Not to mention, just HOW do you define "truth"? What do you make of a half-truth? A half-truth isn't exactly a lie, but because of its partial nature, it satisfies the prerequisite of "truth", and it can be used for one's own gain.

In a philosophical sense, "order" doesn't always entail a world full of positives (in this case, the "positive" is the ideal situation of "constant truth). "Order" can mean a balance and harmony of positives and negatives.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

As far as lies and half truths go. Being vague in your respose to the point where you give just enough info to satisfy the questioner without giving away everything is a half truth.
But take away personal or financial gain and you would curb alot of liars.
