Actually Moldova is historically a Romanian territory, like Bavaria is for Germany. It's just that we had the "luck" to be too close to "some" mighty (& greedy I might add) East European empire, that chopped several times and in several ways Moldova in the last 200 years. After the last chopping ( Stalin), the result is that Moldova is now 50% in Romania, 35% in the (more or less artificially created) Republic of Moldova, and 15% in Ukraine. So you see, the situation is pretty complicated. And even more (how could I forget this), they also had to go through 50 years of persecution, deportation, starvation & brain washing. No wander many of them are now unfortunately so confused about their identity.

Reading your post, I don't think you can compare Bavaria to Moldavia like that^^ At least, Bavaria still belongs to Germany and is 100% inside it's borders http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (dunno about language differences for Moldavia/Romania. As for Germany, there are many different accents, so Bavaria hasn't an own language or sth^^)
If I completely misunderstood your post, please slap me XD

-**** </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Well, half-way you have misunderstood my post. I didn't say that now they are comparable, just historically. If history would have been kinder to us, at least during the 2nd World War, Moldova would have been fully a part of Romania, same as Bavaria is now a part of Germany. As for the language, aside from some small differences of accent (that are unavoidable), it's identical. There are some Russian words forced into their language (for 20-30 years I think they were forced to learn & speak only Russian, Romanian being forbidden), but they are not more then 1% of the vocabulary. But the grammar system is 100% identical, so are all the other language rules (declinations, conjugations etc). Technically you cannot find any difference, apart from a couple of hundreds of Russian words recently introduced in the language (last 50 years) and some dialect words. The rest is only politics.

And by the way...
You know that Moldova was separated from Romania by a treaty between Germany and Russia?
The treaty was signed on 23rd August 1939 by the foreign ministers of the two countries: Ribbentrop (Germany) and Molotov (Russia)...

Right, but I wanted to highlight the implication of the Germans, too, because that guy (****-the-Mink) is German but he doesn't know anything about Romanian history or about the impact suffered by the Romanian people because of the foreign politics of some empires (including the German one) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

True, but now, frankly, if I'd be a german I wouldn't know much about romanian history either. I mean, what do you know caught off-guard about Estonian history, for example? And I'm sticking around in Europe, i wouldn't venture to the history of Burma, or something. So, yeah, he misses some points, but he's not guilty for Ribbentrop's deeds (unless he's neo-nazi... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif ). However, it would be important in my opinion if we'd show more that we consider Moldova not just another country but just alienated Romania.

1. Bambardia Kirdugu? Double Dutch?? (vreemd) Are you from Suriname or South Africa?
2. Bessarabia - short story: geographical region named after a Romanian King in the 14th century. Originally representing a smaller region, it became the name of the whole land between the rivers Nistru and Prut in 1812, when the Russian expansion reached the Romanian territories and half of historical Moldova was occupied. Occupation ended in 1918, after the Boshevic Revolution, when Russians lost control of some of the occupied territories, and Bessarabia's first independent parliament voted in large majority the union with Romania. Bessarabia was again occupied by Stalin during the 2WW. At the end of the war, after Roosvelt gave Stalin the freedom to do almost whatever he wants with the Romanian territories, Bessarabia was chopped in three: two were given to Ukraine and one was united with the territories inhabited by Romanians in Transnistria, and formed the Soviet Moldova. After massive deportations & organized starvation after the war, followed by 50 years of ethnic cleansing, people are very confused about their identity. In the parts of Bessarabia given to Ukraine there are just few Romanians left, and in the nowadays Moldova only 65% are still Romanians, but very confused about their identity (50 years of brainwashing school system taught them that they are just Moldovians, not Romanians - which is like saying Bavarians are not Germans). It might seem long but believe - it's very short. I could write a book about it, so if you want details, ask me more on PM.
3. In the south of Bessarabia there are indeed Gagauz (few hundread thousands left in the whole world). In the part of Bessarabia that is now in the nowadays federal Moldova, I know they have their own autonomous territory. I don't know much about those in Ukraine.

And a voice from Bulgaria - I speak Bulgarian (what a surprisehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) and English, and most of the time understand Russian, Serbian and Macedonian. But it's best if we post only in English, 'cause after all this officially is an English-speaking forum. And I don't think many of you would get the meaning of ""´Ñ€?²µ'Ñ"µ" if I write in Bg

I speak Dutch, English and Frisian fluently. My German is ok (no problem reading or listening, but talking and writing is difficult), I've had 4 years of French in school, so I can make myself a bit clear in that language, I speak a few words Norse and at the moment, I'm learning Quenya http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My native language is latvian so of course i speak it very well.
As u all can see, i also know english pretty good, because i use it every day on internet.
I have also learned german language, but because of rare use i'm not very good at it.
And i have even studied latin language, but it was only for half year, so i know latin grammar very bad, but my word knowledge is good for beginner.
And... some time ago i even tried to learn swedish language, but because of lack of time i didn't learned much.
That's all... for now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's not that. I even started learing some Slovak a couple of years ago (for fun) - and that helped me understand some basic words in Czech as well (I have friends in both Slovakia and Czech Republic). It's just that if sb enteres a thread, it's to read what's inside. But if (s)he stumbles in languages (s)he has no idea about, it's frustrating.
If it would be a fun thread, where everybody writes in his own language (like on other forums), it would be ok. But here they are more stiff about it, and a thread like that was not only locked, but also deleted.
The only thing that we had here and worked, was people greeting each other in their own language. That's more intuitive and it's nice to learn greetings in other languages. But when a couple of guys go from that to starting their own dialogue in a perticular language, it's not that polite for the others. Then they can as well use PM or a chat room.
But that's just my opinion. Feel free to do what you want. (I just wanted to make sure you don't get the wrong impression that I'd have sth agains your language - nothing like that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - if you browse back a few pages you'll see I had the same reaction regarding a couple of guys chatting in other language - so nothing personal)
