I saw the first dev diary and Jade talked about the assassins base[I forgot the name of the base] I realy hope you have to train your skills there if yes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

I've recently just discovered this game so I could be wrong. However, it appears you don't really learn any skills to me. Your already a master assassin and you just acquire targets and assassinate. It appears to be more based on stealth, ie. Tenchu stealth assassins. Does anyone know for sure if you learn new skills or just get new weapons and gadgets?

I think you're right. The game shouldn't be focused around building up your skills.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yeah, this isn't an RPG. As far as I know, there is no skill building, just playing, which is a huge plus in my opinion.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

but it would be pretty cool if you could choose how stealthy, fast, strong and defensive you are. If you can upgrade yourself there might be more combat moves to choose from. Now you have to admit that would be awsome http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Is there even going to be shadow stealth? It'd be cool, but from what Jade said, I got the idea that social stealth would replace shadow stealth for the majority of the game. I hope I'm wrong, as you can never have too much stealth. Anyone know for certain?

Nah. I think we're just fine without it, but either way. I think (or hope) this game will resemble an action game, more than an RPG.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

i remember reading somewhere that occasionally one of your targets is inside and you need to use shadow stealth to get to him(i hope you wear a black version of your cloak for those). then again it could just be a rumor that someone made up. but hey as of right now who knows?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Shadow stealth is kinda hard to do with a white cloak, so you would have to have a separates cloak for the missions where shadow stealth is required.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In my magizine it says that as you become a better assassin you get higher rankings your, apperance changes so maybe you'll get a black cloak for shadow cover.

KnightTemplar45

Maybe you start out with just a white cloak and the sheath for your sword, and as you progress you add the red waistband thing, the thing that holds the throwing knives, and so forth.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif yay i was wondering where i read that too thanks yea in the magazine it said that Altair had been demoted because of something dunno what they didn't tell us and now we have to rise through the ranks again and when you gain ranks you get better daggers and maybe new clothes and new weapons and stuff so that's going to be our sort of gaining skills but i think it's just you look better cause if you get stabbed with the crappiest sword in the world i think you'll die anyways if not from the wound then well nah the wound would kill you

I dunno about the guy in his house i think they said there might be some in their house i know in the teaser before E3 not the trailer he snuck up behind someone who was by himself and not in a crowd on a bridge here's the link look for that part http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=10294&type=mov&pl=game

I think in my personal oppinion the only skill that should be growing is in the player. I think that you shouldn't have to deal with annoying skill growing challenges but rather the person playing the game gaining experiance playing as Altair and learning to make the best use of his talents.

The only thing I think I could see working is your items/clothing/appearance changing as you get higher in rank.

Thats just my two cents. Thanks for reading!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It would be nice if in the base you had an obstical corse to get uset to the controls and stuff, 'cus it doesn't mater how good you are, you cand get beter http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif but a very hard obstical corse not just "a jump and crowl" obstical corse like in shooters(man i hate shooters very few impres me like Rogue trooper and sc)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif right i heard somewhere that you could make the game near impossible to play if you make the crowd start hating you but if you make the crowd love you by helping them and doing the sidequests like giving money to a begger he'll trip the guards instead of tripping you when you run past and other things the crowd will start to do things in your favor which will make the game easier

Yea there isn't going to be a health bar cause one hit kills but there's going to be a stamina bar that pops up when you're fighting that shows you how many times altair can auto block before he lets one slip and kill him

did you watch the demo? when the combat started didn't you see the thing in the corner that's his stamina bar and a picture also i can find somewhere one sec

Edit: http://news.gaminghorizon.com/media2/1158900434.4765.html

there you go a stamina bar but it shows up during combat and i'm sure you'll be able to press a button to make it appear if in other situations or if you press a button that doesn't make sense maybe it'll do that i dunno

the stamina bar shows how much more he can auto block for you before he can't do it anymore it's like a health bar but instead of getting hit he blocks it sloppily which definately doesn't give you an advantage

Actually, seeing from the inventive game controls, it looks like there are dozens of different combinations for each situation...you probably don't learn new techniques in RPG way, you probably need to invent them yourself...maybe we can trade different cool techniques and tricks when the game comes out...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Even though there are tons of ways to kill your opponents you will probably end up killing most of them with the same moves and it might get repetative if you can only perform certain moves in certain situations. I like not having a health bar in gameplay, having one just would clutter up the screen.
Another thing that i would really like to see in this game is as you progress along the game Altiar gets better at the skill of assassinating. Not like an RPG where you choose how your "experience" is allocated on your main character, this should be passively and happen according to what you do in the missions and when you're free roaming. So in essence you shape your character (who he is, what he looks like, how people react to you), but it isnt another RPG. Kind of like how you "level up" in GTA San Andreas, the more you practice the better you get at the skill or better with a weapon.

RetiredHatch
10-23-2006, 03:14 PM
They said there's going to be one button does one thing... that one thing is attack with non weapon or attack with weapon how he does it is random -_- so there won't be any button combos but there might be something like to kick hit the foot button but each time he'll do some different type of kick he's got 4000 animations and they also said there ISNT going to be a combo system

but i like the your idea and I think that she said that's how it's going to work as far as the beginning goes for your second paragraph he just gets better i dunno HOW that's going to work but i do like that idea http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Actually there wil be a "building up" kind of like that in an RPG.... I noticed during one of the videos that Jade said you will progress further and further to unlock different weapons to use in later assassinations... i dont recall any unlockable skills though

RetiredHatch
10-23-2006, 05:40 PM
Different weapons but not skills or you won't be able to say goto a screen that says add 1+ to your speed or something but yea unlockable clothes and daggers and knives and stuff but we already knew that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Unlockable weapons is a great feature to the game, but i dont want to be the same guy i was when i started when i finish the game. I want to have better skills as well as new weapons.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

rather than unlockable weapons and items, i would prefer to buy them from merchants as I can afford them (or steal cash for them)- i noticed in some of the gameplay vids, that there were a couple street stalls with merchants standing behind them. (one looked like a blacksmith setup- a.e.- weapons, and there was a fruit cart too i think)

basically- i think to that if you need to heal, eat, upgrade weapons, buy accessories and items, new clothing or whatever- you should have to buy it from a local merchant and local merchants should only have items that are available locally. (a.e.- a moorish town would not sell a scimitar, as that is a sarasin weapon or if the town is occupied by Brits, then English weapons would be available)

I always thought it was stupid in roleplaying games that good weapons or items only showed up way late in the game as if they didnt exist if you were a newbie. They should have always been available- just not affordable

my two cents

RetiredHatch

Alamut was a castle that was invaded by the Hashashin in 1090 in a general vicinity of the three cities in the game, but i can't find where exactly. not much is known about the layout of this castle because it was destroyed by the mongols in 1256.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

By general vicinity, you mean the Middle East? Alamut is in Iran, so I'm pretty sure his base will be Masyaf (in Syria) if they want the player to be able to get there on horseback.
