I just realized something. Many are concerned about the short campaign (1939-43) and I've come up with some thoughts on this:

1) If you really think about it 1939-43 is not short. It's just shy of four years, and if you make one patrol per month, that's 44 patrols.

2) Many players use SH3 Commander. There is an option within to simulate a realistic career length. That means about 12 patrols I think - I can't recall now since I never used that feature. If you are someone that uses that feature, 1939-43 can give you a fair career length, or up to 4 careers in the same war.

3) We know that the Battle of the Atlantic was basically over by 1944. Correction, 1943!

4) There may be updates/patches/add-ons that allow type IXs and XXIs, plus the 1944-45 portion of the game.

When it comes down to it, the game will probably turn out well and as long as the new DRM is not used on this game I'm sure it will make most players happy. There will always be user content, mods and supermods for the game.

Here's hoping the new DRM will miss this one!

although the time-line runs "only" from september '39 up to may '43 that still is 33 months of gaming.

Positive, yeh like it, makes a change from all the negativity on these forums. Although seems the same people are slating this over and over again. Im optimistic about SH5 and look forward to setting sail in her, cant wait, again as you said DRM is a bit of a worry but i dont think it will be half as bad as some claim, we still dont know for sure what form it will take, finishing in mid 43 thats fine too, the improved immersion and hopfully playability will do it for me. Im guessing SH5s current form will open the way for expansion packs in the future. Thats how companies make money right. I remain positive and look forward to the release. Hope that new and potential users of SH have not been put off by all the negative durt throwing on these forums, about a game that hasnt even been released yet.
