Roac and I put our heads together on this one and decided it would make a decent enough form of private communication.

To send a private "message" to someone, do one of the following:

Click the user's name beside any of their posts, and select "Invite <user> to a Private Topic". Enter your subject and message, and click the post button. You have just set up a two-person conversation between you and another forum member.

Updated! To be notified of new Private Topics that you are invited to, go to the Private Topics section of the My Space tab, and click on the Notify tab. From there you can configure how you wish to be notified of new Private Topics, and whether to include when replies are made to Private Topics in the notification options (meaning you will be notified every time someone replies to a Private Topic you've started).

Alternatively, if you want to have a conversation with more than one person (say, more than one moderator), add all of the people you wish to communicate with to your Contacts list (you can do this by clicking the person's name beside one of their posts), and then from the "New" tab, select "Private Topic". Add whoever you want to communicate with in the list that appears, then create your topic. This creates a conversation between you and the rest of the people you selected.

Please be advised that as with any communication system on any forum, the administration is capable of monitoring all private topics in the event of reported or suspected abuse. Mis-use or abuse of the private topics function to break UbiSoft Forum Policy will result in action being taken against your account.

I've updated the notification setup instructions for Private Topics (PTs) as I've discovered a way to be notified without getting mailspammed by the board whenever someone posts anything anywhere.

I'm also going to leave this topic open in case anyone has a question about how to use this functionality.

Is it possible to delete private topics once they've served their purpose?

If you started the topic, you can delete it by using the Tools dropdown. Otherwise, all you're able to do is leave the topic, again using the Tools dropdown.

Just a quick note: The first method (clicking on a user's name and clicking "Invite to Private Topic") doesn't seem to work in IE or Mozilla. You may have to add a user to your list of contacts, and then start a private thread with them.

Perhaps as people notice their Private Topic threads are dying off, the originator could remember to delete them to help reduce the amount of space we're using. These forums are some of the busiest around... let's try to be Internet Environmentally Friendly.

You should be able to go into "Edit" in the topic (the top most post) and then choose "delete this post" which will effectively delete the entire thread.

Thanks, everyone! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I thought so too, Kha'tie, but I keep getting the '60 minute limit' message there. It won't let me do it. Sure would be nice to get a lot of that old stuff outta there. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Whitch2: We don't have full Moderator status in the Private Topics forum. Probably for technical reasons. I was able to delete old threads that I had started, but I could not touch old threads started by other users.

Yup, same here. Which is getting to be a real pain. There's a whole bunch of obsolete stuff there that is just wasting space. Even after deleting the ones I started, there are a bunch left that are of no use any longer.
