for the heck of it until the 2nd patch comes out to make my microssoft sidewinder 2 forcefeedback work i went out and bought a cheap regular joystick from radioshack. a Saitek ST290 pro. i made it work 100% with this game and its great to be finally able to use a stick to play and fly instead of mouse/keyboard or game pad. throttle rudder(twist) all are changeable. the key is to when installing let it put the desktop icons on. one is for going to the game and one is for settings and you can map the keys there and adjust graphics etc. some key names arent right because the game was made with gamer pads in mind but ignore the button names and push the button you want on your stick and let it set it. i tried it in game and 100% function. now i have to get used to playing Blazing Angels with a stick now. the Saitek ST290 is usually a $24.oo joystick unless you find it on sale like i did and i paid $9.75 (radioshack store closeout sale 64 % off list price of $24.95 = $9.75 with tax)
and i installed the patch. i spent an hour just goofing around in the first mission to get used to this new non forcefeedback stick. though i hate not having forcefeedback....i will suffer without it until the patch and play and finally have alittle fun. and once i get used to the new stick and get some missions finished i will catch some of you who are still playing this online in some games.
keep the faith people and by the way UBISOFT could you please give us some update on the 2nd patch you are working on.

the same thing i did with a logi extreme 3d pro.
in the control panel of the joy you can assign a key for each movement....
it's a good way to play the single player but in multi everything is different

blackspider67, Did you get the game to recognize your throttle slider, and if so how?
My extreme 3DPro has functioned well with the game, except for that Slider. I have had to assign buttons 7 and 8 to Fast and slow.

i have it and the vertical axis is recognized as bottons making it useless

After the patch, which I think was just the game setup from the trial, I have been able to use my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I have just had to assign Fast and Slow to buttons 7 and 8. They must be held constantly or it reverts to normal. Roll to Stick left and right, Turn to twist. Next, closest, etc. target to hat.
This is how I play online.

it doesnt matter what the game "calls" the key or button you set on the stick. trust me it works. it called one of my axis as buttons and twist/rudder as a silder but yet it functions 100% as a joystick. i was bothered by the key/button names also for a little while until i said the heck with it and tried it. and as for multiplayer...... the joystick worked there too just fine. this will hold me over until the 2nd patch is released and hopefully my microsoft sidewinder forcefeed back 2 stick finally works 100% properly. for me nothing beats a true feeling forcefeedback joystick.........but to each their own....its a matter of personal preference. but i thought to atleast post this so you all know of what sticks work. if anyone else finds a stick that works please post it here also and dont worry what "name" the game gives the button/key you set...... set it anyways and try it.......you will be surprised.....and hopefully the 2nd patch changes the names for the buttons/keys too...........

it doesnt matter what the game calls the buttons/keys as long as it works until the 2nd patch get released. one of my axis settings was named as buttons when i set it but it works as a regular axis. its worth trying the settings and seeing how it goes.

true rudder as in twist stick and rudder moves just like Crimson Skies...... YES. joysticks are digital actually so even though the game calls it a button (game was originally made with gamepads in mind hence the control names) the actuall use of the stick is normal for me just like in any other flight game. i didnt make a profile for the stick i went "ingame" in my Blazing Angels" set up icon (when you install it asks if you want icons CLICK YES...it gives you an icon to launch the game and one for settings)and set each one as i wanted it to and tested it. made sure my throttle was centered and set throttle up and down. i admit i actually enjoy this game much more now and have fun flying it. when this 2nd patch comes out hopefully the forcefeedback issues are fixxed and the sticks have tension while flying and when an action occurs the forcefeedback kicks in. until then i will use my new (and much liked now until 2nd patch) Saitek ST290 Pro. when i can i will probably set a profile for the stick for the game but for now i just have the game controls set as i want them.

i have the same adjustments on my st290 Beastie. and mine like yours works 100% fine. i actually enjoy this game and have fun now. though i didnt narrow my deadzone as much just so i had alittle "feel" or play if i twitched the stick alittle.... i tried it tight and with alittle "wiggle room" narrowing it as i went along to find a sweet spot. next time i adjust it will be totally tight with narrowest deadzone settings like yours.

just had to settle in and fine tune my settings was all.....
hey Blud E Guts if some of us have found a way to play the game and fly with a working stick and enjoy it..........so what....if you dont like the game or whatever....thats fine with us..... i dont hold it against you so please dont do so to us. no offence....just trying to be polite to a fellow pilot.

It's not a working stick, you are jumping through hoops to make play on the stick somewhat acceptable to you. Just like not having a true rudder is acceptable to you. I AM NOT going to go out and buy another stick that will still require me to tweak it to get it to kinda work. The game should not even have been released in the state that it is. I think that by reading the forums, there is a great deal of support for that statement. Some posts are even suggesting that UBI has deserted this game and there will be no further patches.
If you don't care about having your money stolen from you that is your choice, so be it, I know I don't. I will continue to slam the game and it's support. Sorry if you don't like it.

The SAITEK ST290 pro works with the patch that was sent. Although the only problem is when you try to set the buttons up, it will take a few times figuring it out. But it beats trying to use the keyboard. With out the patch, you will not be able to configure it. Once the patch is downloaded you will be able to configure the joystick.

Judge,... I had to Fix the "ONE" Fatal Flaw with this Stick...!!! The 3,2,4, Buttons have No TACTILE FEEL To Them, and you HIT TWO at a time "alot"... "NOT GOOD"...!!! I fixed the Problem Real Nice... (see the Screenie below) ...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I took a Small Bead, and ground it in half, and stuck it on with "Two Sided Mounting Tape"... This holds your Thumb above the 3,4, buttons, and gives #2 good Feel without having to look for it... It works "Like A Champ"...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

NOTE: To the Pilot L00KING for the Profiler Program... You go to Saitek.com and Download it... The files to L00K for are listed in one my UPPER Posts...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You do not need the Profile Program for Basic Function of the Stick...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif After installing the Profiler Program... Right Click the Stick Icon in the "Task Bar"... You will see Profile Editor...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
NOTE: I'm going to Try and Make some Outrageous Profiles for BA... With Saitek's Outrageous Profiling Program...!!! In the "Profile Editor" HELP you see "Advance Commands"... Look at what you could Make...!!!...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Just like in the Macro Recorder, the numbers underneath the keystrokes represent the time in seconds from when you pressed the first key in the sequence; in the Advanced Editor you can adjust these timings. Simply point the mouse cursor at the time you wish to adjust and you will notice that the cursor changes to a clock with two arrows either side of it. Now click and hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse right to increase the time or left to decrease. Once you are happy with the timing just let go of the mouse button and the new timing will be saved.
Therefore with the Advanced Editor you could set, for example, a command that launches a missile when you press the button. It might then switch to a camera view of the missile and then 4.5 seconds later switch to a camera view of the enemy. When you let go of the button it could switch back to your cockpit view.

Then Twist Your Stick Full Left or Right... hold it there... and now Double Click "Turn Command" in the BA Control Panel and see if it Picks it up...!!! Did you Program the Throttle First to release the "Slider Commands"...??? When you get Your Stick MAPPED... Come back and tell the Other Pilot's Your Trick to Get Your Map... Like I said in upper Posts... It can be Tuff to get The Map... But it will MAP... You Just have to be Persistent...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I hope the other Pilot's will jump in here and Help get this Pilot his MAP...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

this site has the most recent windows drivers for the saitek st290 pro stick
http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/down/drivers.htm
where it says ST290 Pro - non WHQL'd driver 2K/XP. then if you have windows XP you go start menu / control panel /printers and other hardware/game controllers/ it will give you a little white box click properties and adjust the stick and apply
and to Blud E Guts the stick does work 100% you CAN map the functions to whatever buttons you want. then try it. if you dont like the game fine but for those that do and are willing to try it and play it because they WANT to.....why not let them without your sharing of your opinion in a post that is meant to help people with this game so they CAN PLAY IT. nothing against you..... just let a post thats for helping people and benefiting others be just that without the flaming and blasting that gets nothing done except waste space.

A nice Profile Macro to make for this Stick or any other Stick is to Macro a Button or Trigger to Get Your WingMan to Repair AND Attack all at the same time, to get you Fixed and Get them Bad guys off your Back at the same time... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif You Know how for a Repair He tells you a Key to Push depending what the Problem IS... Ok i have a Saitek ST290 pro. Drivers installed and everything. I have followed all the tips on this post and still no results. I have been able to program a lot of commands but when i program pitch up and pitch down they don't work. Meaning i pull back on my joystick and it does nothing in game. The z-axis doesnt work in game either everything else does. Any further advice would be awesome.
