My old headset used 3.5mm plugs, sound was fine, similar to what I get from my speakers. Something happened and I now have to use USB headset. Works fine except game sound quality has sharply deteriorated. Not sure how to explain it but it doesnt sound nearly as good; the engine doesnt sound a 'full', other sounds have deteriorated as well, and I get some crackling when looking around w/TrackIR as the sound of the engine becomes louder in one headphone or the other. Help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hi fish, Be sure "hardware accelleration" is checked in the IL2 setup under "sound" tab.

If that does not do it, It may be a fault with the USB headset drivers.

Good Luck!

I had bought a set of Plantronics USB headsets. I immediately started having problems with the game. The software for the headphones used a lot of resources then I began to run out of USB ports. They rest comfortably now in the spare parts box. I use the regular Plantronics with the 3.5 plug. I learned that more is not allways better. You want something good? Get a Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Now that really made a difference! Not only did I gain a lot of sound quality but the fps never suffered. Its a good thing we have guys like Coasties and Hunter82 to give us advice.

It's not a power issues is it? Because generally if you have more than 2 USB devices hooked up to your computer, you'll want to use a power hub, because just the motherboard alone can't handle more than 3 or 4 devices with constant power.

I think it is the Plantronics USB headset resource issues, as I had exactly the same problems until I placed the headset in my spare parts box, and went back to my $16.95 Opus71 headset.

You can find them on-line or at Radio Shack.

Any USB sound device is a huge resource eater AFAIK
