So, after finishing there is a thing I am wondering about....
1) Saavedro said he changed the symbols which need to be placed on the imaging machine in the tower by the linking book to Narayan. Ergo, he has seen the symbols that Atrus had prepared in the first place.
2) The symbols that Saavedro puts in theirs place, fit so nicely in with the logic of the inner shield puzzle on Narayan, that it is difficult to think that this should be a coincidence (the tight and intelligent logic of the game does not really allow for such a coincidence I think). Ergo, Atrus' symbols would also fit nicely in with the puzzle on Narayan.
3) Therefore, Saavedro must be really daft to not find the right combinatuion simply by trial and error during his 20 years on that island. As a matter of fact, when he comes rushing down the stairs to discover the outer field gone, he hesitates, and wonders "how did you...", then looks at the puzzle-machine and says "of course...". So he is not ignorant of the fact that these two machines regulate the shields.
4) Or, differently put, if we suppose that Saavedro has changed both of Atrus' symbols for the access to Narayan book, then he has actually already seen the solution to the shield puzzle since his symbols follow the same logic as Atrus'.
5) So he does not need the sentences in Atrus' diary to solve the puzzle like we do....
Is this not a bit weak in an otherwise very intelligent game...?
