hi, first post...I hope to buy this game and become part of the SH community... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
but, first i gotta know, as I skipped buying other UBI games I really wanted because of it...
Does Silent Hunter 4 use any kind of copy protection that installs hidden drivers or anything, like Star Force or such. i know they used to, but heard they dropped it. Can anyone confirm if they're still secretly installing stuff on your computer?
thx.. got my credit card ready if i hear the right answer... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

SecuROM may not put anything on your machine, but it won't allow me to launch the game because it keeps saying the dvd isn't in the drive when it is...and their support staff say "they are working on it"...its a pain....I would wait

If you want to use a backup with a virtual drive, or if you are having DVD issues, it IS possible to get around this latest version of Securom BUT -
1.) It's kind of a pain in the ***
2.) I'm fairly sure I'm not allowed to elaborate anyway, because of obvious parallels to piracy tactics.
Although I feel bad for drugmanrx, the chances of that happening to you aren't that great, and the first patch has already fixed a bunch of the big problems that were initially reported. I say go out and grab a copy and enjoy - although you may find it difficult to actually find it, from what I've seen on these boards (my EB only had one. I hate EB). If you have decent bandwidth, you could get the download version and avoid both the DVD issues and the lack of availability http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I was thinking something along those lines veovis39...like a no-cd hack or something (oops, sorry if i'm not supposed to say that here). If its the only way to get my legal copy to work, i'm all for it...but i'll have to wait until I can find one..
