OK, this is Ottoramsaig and once again I had to create a new account on my home PC. I ended up with Mod Soup and really messed up my game. I erased all my SH4 folders (everything) went to add/remove programs and was unable to remove SH4. Still have shortcut on desktop but when I click on it I get the message to re-install program. I load the disk into the machine only to find that the "INSTALL" is not highlighted and I can not re-install the game. I also get a message of anim.act not found. Any suggestions?

try running a registry cleaner and then see if you can install again.

Which OS are you running otto/Bledsoe?
Erasing/deleting files in XP or Vista doesn't bode well for removing a borked install.

All that needed to be done was..<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Disable all mods with JSGME<LI>Uninstall SH from control panel<LI>Search the drive for the Ubisoft Folder and delete it.<LI>Reinstall [/list]

Ruh Roh Raggy!

Yooper is referring to a seperate utility program. They are designed to clean up the anomalies in your Winblows registry. An internet search will turn up a gross number of them. Personally, I don't recommend using them because in the hands of the inexperienced, they can foul up more than they fix. Usually ending in a partition wipe and reinstall of the operating system.

The greatest thing about the internet is that you can find information on almost everything. IE: How Shtuff Works (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/)

Education is your greatest tool and only requires a little effort. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yooper, which Reg utility would you use?

Sounds like the game is still installed, except you deleted some folders that are needed to use the unistall function. I say that because the disk is not giving you the install option, so it's reading the game as installed.

Should have uninstalled at the control panel, before just deleting folders...seem's that's what you're saying.

Can you get the unistall option with the disk?
Try exploring the disk and look for the unistall if it doesn't show up on the screen.

Try deleting any shortcuts and see if you can get the unistall function with the disk.

I would do a complete search on Ubisoft and SHIV and delete anything to do with it.

Cleaning the registry may be needed, but backup before you do. May just want to scancheck with auto fix first after you delete anything.

It seems you deleted some files, but windows still see's the game installed. Good luck and let us know.

your problem is because of the mod soup your files are corrupted and werent uninstalled properly

to fix this you need to go to your c drive/ program files directory and delete the leftover ubisoft folder found there and then you will be able to reinstall the game but dont forget to also delete the sh4 folder in your my documents folder.

I have deleted everything SH4 to include a search for hidden files and still no good. Everytime I attempt to uninstall using the add/remove programs I get a microsoft error message. Note: Silent Hunter still there but with no memory cache. HELPPPPPPPPP

Hello,
I use Wise Registry Cleaner. You can download a Free version of it here. (http://www.wisecleaner.com/)
This is a good cleaner to run every so often to.

If you put the disk in can you use the explore option?

Did you by chance have a system restore point prior to installing the game?

Paste the error here?

Have you also deleted all mods, ect.?

Got it. However when I go to add/remove I notice that there is no memory cache in the right hand colum. When I click on it to remove it automatically sends an error report to microsoft. I install the "Wise" reg cleaner but still no good. the disk still does not give me the option to install. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

The disc isn't giving the option to istall, because it's reading the game as already installed. However, I can't understand why the disc will not give you the unistall command at the bottom of the screen.

I assume you tried the setup icon after you did explore. It had a repair option and uninstall option...have you tried both?

ok the only way you wont see the install option is if the game "sees" a sh4 installation already there. add/remove programs option will only remove the normal files and not the corrupted or mod files so it still leaves the main folders there and these are what the game is seeing to not let you reinstall. if you were able to reinstall at this point, because of the left over files still being there you would end up with the corrupted files back in the game again.

it doesnt have to be a working game or even a complete game but only a few files in a folder is enough to block it from reinstalling.

to be clear on what you must do to delete remaining leftover or corrupted files:

if you have windows xp then open "c" drive/ program files and find the "ubisoft" folder, then right click on it and select delete

Let me get this right...

Can you find any existing files, directory, shortcuts, anything related to the game at all?
If you can, you may need to rename what you find and hide it from windows so you can delete it.

Make sense. If you still need help, PM me and I can walk you through how if you don't understand.

I erased all my SH4 folders (everything) went to add/remove programs and was unable to remove SH4. The way you explain it, it sounds like you deleted the files first and then tried to use the Add/Remove Programs feature. I'm going to assume that it's the other way around. You tried to use Add/Remove Programs first but it didn't work due to improperly installed Mods.
Did you make a back-up copy of your original SHIV file before installing any Mods? Also, did you try reinstalling using the <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Add</span>/Remove Program feature?

I ended up with Mod Soup after screwing around with OM. To answer the question, I deleted folders before attempting to delete SH4. I will look to see if anything remaims.

CCleaner as fully featured registry cleaner. Try this (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/)

I deleted folders before attempting to delete SH4. I will look to see if anything remaims. Ah, then that is where your problem lies. Deleting folders first, before uninstalling, is a major no-no. Well, you're going to probably have to manually locate and delete all references to SHIV from your system registry. This however, is an extremely delicate task if you're not familiar with the registry. Personally, I wouldn't trust automated registry cleaners. I've tried a few commercially available programs and they all seem to remove things that shouldn't be removed, resulting in more major problems than you started with. First thing to do is to make a backup of your registry files and save it to your desktop (or other folder of your choosing). If I were you, I go to the Microsoft website and do a search for registry changes, so you can print it out for handy reference if something goes awry. I can get you started though. Go to Start/Run, type in "regedit" (without quotation marks) and hit enter. This will bring up the regedit utility. Then (at the top) click on "File" and then click "Export". Give the file at date for a name and save it to Desktop. Once you're done, you'll have to sift through the registry (very carefully, making sure not to accidentally delete anything) for anything related to "SHIV" or "Ubisoft". More than likely, these files will be located under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and/or "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". Never-the-less, to be on the safe side, you'll have to check everything. I've done manual deletions before with no ill effects and we all have to start somewhere. You can do it but, you must take your time and use extreme caution. Again, print out directions from the Microsoft website and ABSOLUTELY save a copy of your Registry before proceeding. If a problem occurs, right click on the saved registry backup file and click "Restore". Good Luck. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You may want to try this. You can run multiinstalls of SH4.

Let us know what you have tried.

With the disc in, did you explore the disc, hit the setup icon and were any of the modify, repair on unistall options available? This should run commands from the disc and not your computer so not sure why this isn't working.

Did you look in Window Explorer?

Did you do a search including using the advanced option showing hidden files using the the total path?

One thing I forgot...Try booting in safe mode, then try all the uninstall options.

I purchased "Perfect Uninstaller" sometime ago.
It works great. You could try and search it, sometimes it has a free trial, but usually it cost.

Hate it for you. If you're smart, registry as Werner said is gonna be your last option, but back up. Here's the link explaining it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

If you don't know what you're doing, I would buy a higly rated uninstaller. Most of the free ones suck and have limited options

Well something happened. Afer following the reg instruction, SH4 appeeared in the Wise Cleaner. I hit fix and it was gone. Went back an poped in the CD and now "INSTALL" is highlighted. When I hit INSTALL it once again tells me that there is a version of SH4 already installed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Can you delete it now....using the disc.

You should now be able to explore the disc, try the set up option to repair or unistall.

Sounds like you're getting close,

Good luck.

i think you may have by accident removed some uninstall files the game needed so it couldnt uninstall everything.

this is an easy trick i used before and it should solve your problem.

use a friends computer to install the game then copy it to an external hdd, dvd, or thumb drive big enough to hold it, then simply copy the game files back onto your computer where they belong.

this will restore all the files that are needed to properly unistall the game correctly so that you can start over with a new installation.

please dont just copy the files and think that the game is good to go just like that because it may still have corruptions somewhere in those leftover files still on you computer that you cant find.
