I do have to say, after playing with a number of different girls in the year & a half that I've been on Xbox Live (a lot of girls seem to like Burnout 3 on Xbox Live) and considering the **** that I've heard from a lot of the guys that are also in these rooms, I generally don't blame the ones that act this way.

I don't think these gamer types apply to just women gamers, but gamers in general. There are a lot of male gamers who act in the same sort of fashion.

Hahaha, I actually read a similar article on this, but rather gamer girl "types", it was about gamer archetypes in general.

Very nice blog I must say 2 thumbs up! I play with female gamers, and I have noticed some of the traits that you have listed in them. I shall not say anymore on that or I might find myself in trouble.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> The Fun Maker: This is the kind of gamer girl that can be hardcore or not who just wants to play with her friends and have fun. She is loud, gregarious, and lighthearted and usually has the room rolling with her jokes. She doesn’t like it when people bring the mood down and only wants everyone to be laughing and having a good time when they play with her. She will think of crazy game types or modes to play on games just to keep it interesting and fun. They are the kind that knows if they are at a tournament or event they will be the one tripping over their controller. Because of this they have a constant stream of one-liners that you would hear if the Noise Maker wasn’t *****ing so loudly. She can be humorless or unintelligent outside gaming, but with a gaming peripheral in her hand you are sure to catch a laugh </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Wow!
Great blog Val. As Mooks said, this doesn't just apply to women. There's alot of guys that'd fit into one of these categories. It was great fun reading your takes on female "gamer" personalities. I guess I never really looked at it quite like this.

Ha, ha, ha. The first girl I played over X-Box Live was definitely a Man-Hater. I was playing Matchmaking Rumble Pit on Ivory Tower and I had no idea WHAT was going on. People are jumping down and shooting me in the back, I'm missing at point-blank range, you know, just like the way I play now.
Well, anyway, this girl with a mic comes on and starts talking sooo much trash to all of us while killing us in various ways...stuff like "how's it feel being beat by a girl?" and I believe she talked disparagingly about the size of our manhoods, but much of this incident has been repressed. Nobody in the room had said ANYTHING to her about being a girl.
So, after she finished smearing us into the ground-- at the standings screen, she started yelling at us about how hard it is being a girl on X-Box live and how much crud she has to take from guys and how she's really been practicing just so she can beat us little kids and stuff. It was such a moment for her. I was so proud.
P.S. She told me specifically that I suck at Halo. Which I already know. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I had a very similar exp. when I started. What's funny about it is I sent a Friend Request after she accepted it, and suprisingly (sp?) we're good friends now! lol
P.S.- I agree that these types are for gamers in general. I fall in to a few of those types for sure! You can't forget the "Silent Gamer". lol

She seeks to be the sole girl in a room of guys and is as territorial as it gets. If any other girl should dare to enter a room she is in, she will go for the throat and harass the female that has unknowing entered her lair or simply ignore the other girl as she has no interest of losing her male friends attention to another. This girl is also usually competitive, which is another reason as to why she doesn’t want to play with other females as she wants to validate to herself that she is the “best” girl gamer. If she ever decides to play with girls she will only play with ones she knows she is better than as that supports her agenda and she will rip apart other girls she is threatened by." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I was playing RB63 and joined a opti-match. THere was a Lone WOlf chick in there from England. She was super loud and it was soo apparent she was trying to get all the guys attention. Finally she shut up for a second to realize all the guys were talking to me. She started shouting, "WTF,is there another female in the room?" I answered, 'Yes, why?' " Because your a ****ing b1tch," she replied.
I couldnt believe what a little attention wh0re this chick was. I finally just said, ' aww are you mad because I'm taking all the attention from you?' She got so pissed she booted me.
Oh well, just one example of many Lone wolf I have met online.

You forgot the following pseudotype:
She's not a gamer, but plays games often to be with her husband or boyfriend (either puppy-eye-forced or voluntarily). She doesn't find any beauty in gaming though, so she feels miserable when loses or performs badly in a team game.
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif No time to improve this text. Just a type of female gamer male simmers know very very well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Wow, I am glad you guys liked it although I was just haveing some fun when I wrote it. I agree and think I even say in the end of the blog that it tailors to guys to, but females are sort of different in alot of aspects when they game. Yes there are more negitive "types" but that is becuase the good ones are really good and fall into the positive roles, while the negetive ones are a smaller percentage but are negitive in different ways- Hence why there are more negitive types. I am glad you guys got the humor I was trying to go with haha.

Wouldn't call it bonding time but its a way to relax during weekends if there are no plans.

I'd suggest adding a "if you cant beat them, join them" classification for the woman who just wants to spend time with her guy and got into gaming.
i have a few friends who have spouses like this...their wife/girlfriend/so got into gaming simply because she realized that gaming was such a big thing in his life, she stopped trying to fight it and sat down to try it. i have a good friend in the LA area who's fiance has bought her own computer to play WoW on with him. she hadn't gamed since super mario 2.
my experience with women who play games is limited...meeting the Frag Dolls, PMS Clan, and Kornelia(http://www.purgatory.net/kornelia/42/) have been positive experiences for sure, but other than them, I've run into a few while playing WoW and a handfull while playing PDZ on Xbox Live. Most of my experiences have been positive, but there's always the occasional idiot...but idiots aren't limited to guys. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Heh, there's no need to sugarcoat anything. "Small percentage" of a negative group is such an understatement. There are always bad grapes of a vine. The article was as real as it could get. At least it didn't go into real depths of naming specific names... because the similar article I spoke of earlier did just that, and it got really ugly.

This is easy dear. Find a new game that you really really like and play it. Don't tell anyone 'who' you are and keep that place and the time you spend there for yourself. Your space. Your time. Cherish it. Be good to you.

The way to end an article like this one is to type-cast yourself, so as not to seem like you're sniping those who are immediately recognizeable in one of the Types.
If you end by type-casting yourself as a Rose, you wind up smelling like manure.

this is the BEST blog i've ever read. i have to admit that i started out as a Lone Wolf because all the girls i first met on LIVE were Black Widows and Noise Makers. i love my guys on Renegade X and hated the idea of some Back Widow chick stealing them away from me! when i finally spent time with some PMS chicks, i found them all to be awesome GGFL. they've rubbed off on me, and now i'm starting to miss my PMS chicas more than my RX boys.
i would add the Silent Gamer. the girl who plays silently, avoiding being noted as a female gamer, a victim of the negative girl gamers. when she speaks up or ends a game as the MVP, all the guys are surprised to hear here girly 'thanks.'

To tell you the truth, when i first started up our R63 division in PMS I knew many girls that were lone wolfs, including Brookelyn haha!! However, that is becuase they never really had the experience or allowed the experience of all girls only playing. There is an amazing bond that occurs when you begin to band and play together that is UNTOUCHABLE. It is truely a unique experience only to us women online, as you can see girls that are COMPLETELY different in every way possible become the best of friends, when really the guys usually seek others that are very simular.

I don't usually read the blogs but I read this one and I like, very good Valkyrie. But now it makes me wonder what kind of gamer I would be. I have always loved games and I used to play games a lot with my bro's but then I got into other stuff with my girlfriends and got away from games for a while. Then I met Juiceman and he played games all the time, all the time!! hehe and I took me years to get back into them again or after him playing and giving me the puppy dog eyes. So I play games but I do it for entertainment and fun. I could care less if I win but get upset when I play games with people that are good or experienced at a game type that I just suck at and they slaugher me, now that isn't fun. Darn FPS!! hehe just never got into them before and it is hard to get better when you just get killed all the time. I also don't like to play games alone all the time I like to play as a group or against others.
