View Full Version : Trim tweek possible?

Is it possible to tweek the initial elevator setting in the game to eliminate the need for down trim when first flying any aircraft?

All aircraft seem to need the same down trim adjustment so the tweek would hopefully eliminate this annoyance.

Thanks

I use my mouse with my left hand to look around and have the mouse wheel set up as the Elevator trim in the Hotas control.

Hope that helps

Tweaking the trim would not be a good idea because you need to change it so often. Every different flight mode requires it's own elevator trim setting. What you need is a method of adj using it quickly and easily.

Thanks for the reply georgeo76, my point is that all the aircraft are trimmed to climb initially and I would like to
reduce this tendency by adjusting the game.
If they all act the same perhaps this is possible?

By the way I found Fiend Wings to have a lot of good info, thanks.

Ed_Case-I have my trim adjustments on the num pad plus & minus keys.I tried to use the mouse center wheel but no joy.

Yes. (sort of) Since you are wanting your elevator to be more forward initially, recalibrate your joystick so the center is a little furthur back (towards you). That way, the game thinks your joystick is forward from center even though the stick is centered (pointing straight up).

There are 2 potential bad side effects of this, but they can be overcome:

1)non-symetric axis travel ... Your new center position will conflict with the elevator sliders (10 of them, 0-100) settings, which point to your old center. Set those 10 sliders to 100 so movement across the entire elevator axis is linear.

2)flying planes with no trim. If you recalibrate too far you might have to fight the stick to fly these level. Just don't fly planes without trim, they suck anyway.

As I understand it you start with the aircraft in neutral trim - at the start of a QMB (for example) I always want my aircraft to climb as fast as it can so neutral trim is good, I even deploy combat flaps initially just to keep the nose up! I wonder if your missing out on some of the turning potential of aircraft you fly - trimming nose down is good for flying fast and improving shooting stability but neutral trim will give you better turn performance ( I sense RBJ flexing his typing finger).

BTW Ok george who's in the picture?
