View Full Version : Freebird for all?

After struggling with the guitar for years I decided to sell my axes a few years back and give it up. There was one goal I always had, to be able to play Freebird.

I remember saying, to myself back then.... self, if only someone could make a game like RB or GH but that actually used a real guitar and taught you to play Freebird in a way that kept you entertained and taught you incrementally. Lol, pffff, that'll never happen.

Well imagine my surprise to see that this now appears to be a reality. So after reading a lot of reviews and forums it appears that this Rocksmith is the real deal and I am now contemplating coming out of retirement (Guitar Centers gotta be falling out of there chairs with joy over all the music game customers they get).

My question though, and I have searched for an answer but could find nothing definitive.... Can I get Freebird even if I didn't pre-order? I never saw a game like this coming and didn't learn about all of this until after release. Do the pre-orders just give the DLC for free or is it exclusive? No Freebird, no purchase for me. Freebird for all.... I'm so there.

ditto. I saw the commercial the night before it was released. I bought it the next day...at Best Buy...so now I have a Best Buy logo in my game and no Freebird.

Hmmm.... so is there an option to buy it in their rockshop? Is it not available to you? All this DLC and marketing promo BS are causing me to purchase fewer games, not more. The BB logo, blegh, no way am I looking at that thing.

it will most likely be available on dlc when they start pumping that out. and saying dlc is keeping you from buying games.. you are nuts because dlc is the best possible thing in the world for a game like this.

Ok I will wait until it is available I guess. I should have been more specific, DLC is not keeping me from buying games, it is quite clear from this post I am willing to buy the Freebird DLC... what is keeping me from buying games is when DLC is tied in to a cross promotion with a retailer like BB. As in this case, if Freebird is exclusive to pre-orders, well I won't be buying. DLC for a game like this is great, don't misunderstand my intetion, and my fault for not being clear.

I feel your pain Hopfrogg. DLC is fine later on down the road to extend the life of a good game but when they tie it in with store promotions or have DLC on day one of a games release that's going to far for me.

I was skeptical about this game and wanted to wait for reviews but I felt forced to pre-order so I could get the 2 extra songs. As it turns out I made a great decision because this game is really special but I didn't like to take the risk.

Maybe you can find someone who hasn't redeemed their code yet who doesn't really care for the 2 songs? Worth a shot.

I'm sure they will eventually put Freebird in the DLC shop but I gurantee you will have to pay for it, though i'm sure nobody would really mind that.

Right now I have the XBox version, but I have plans to buy the PC version of Rocksmith when it comes out so I can practice in another room and let my family watch TV for a while.

One question, will the DLC be transferable to each of the platforms that I own, or will I have to buy it twice? I just thought of that.

How is it with other games, if you own a PS3 and a XBOX of some game with DLC.

Try ebay do a search of rocksmith dlc, I put a code up last night for the PS3 preorder starting bid of $1. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS3-PSN-Rocksmith-Preorder-Bonus-Code-Freebird-Bodysnatchers-DLC-/110766827140?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ca37a684#ht_500wt_1156)

There is also another guy selling a PS3 code with a buy it now price of $15. if it is just freebird song you want,, i would wait for it will be like 2 dollars give or take 50 to 60 cents if we go by the songs of rockband. instead of paying 15 bucks for a preorder just to get it..
that is assuming of course freebird comes out on dlc when the first batch is announced.

Thanks for the advice all. Freebird is such an epic that it would be downright cruel if they didn't make it available for purchase, but alas, I am going to wait until I can confirm they are making it available for all.

The things retailers and devs are doing to drive pre-order numbers is getting silly. I used to purposely go to my local game store so that I could support the little guys, but everytime I went in there they would give me the hard sell to pre-order, well after tiring of 'bracing' myself to go in there, they not only don't get my pre-orders, they don't get any of them anymore.

Sigh, sorry to turn this into a rant about this marketing tactic that is ticking a lot of us gamers off, but companies need to know they are losing customers by caving in to these cross promotions.

Hoping to hear that this DLC is available soon. Bought Forza 4 recently and after learning there are cars I will never have access to because they are BB or Gamestop exclusives, really ****ed me off and is just an outright manipulation of us as gaming consumers.

Hoping Ubisoft does the right thing and makes it available to all. Giving it for free to pre-orders... I can see that, no big deal, but treating customers differently by shoving a Best Buy logo onto them and excluding others from content, blegh, that would be bad.
