Special missions--after the game's finished?

Is it possible to play the special missions after I have finished the game? Or do you have to enter the codes at the beginning of the game to see them appear on your maps as you go?

And what's the point of these? I buy the game and expect that somewhere during gameplay I will be told these codes, but never am. I have to go online to find them as "cheats." What's the deal with that?

Keep and eye on your main mission map(5+R) and periodically, you'll see a small envelope icon somewhere on the map. Travel there, and get it, and after, look for a white circle on the map.

These can be done at any time while you are playing on that map.

I know you are supposed to see an envelope on the map. That wasn't my question. I have finished the game before I found out about this. I want to play the missions I missed (and paid for). I want to know how to go back and see them now. I have tried loading a save from early in the game, but I didn't see an envelope on the map.

And I don't know what (5+R) means.

I haven't been on single player for a while so this is a rough guess but I'm sure that's what Ricamundo means.

Yeah, I figured it out a few days after I wrote that. But nobody has answered my original question yet.

How far into the game do you have to be to start seeing them? I just started over and am just past the first few things after the training mission.

How many are there?

I have 7 codes from the internet, 2 of them tell me invalid password.

Do I need to enter all of them, or do they all do the same thing? Or can you only see one of them at a time?

They start showing up pretty early on, but i can't say exactly when. You should really start off doing the cell tower and gun shop missions anyways, to get the stones and then the weapons unlocked that you want.

I entered all the codes i could find, and like you, some were accepted and some were not.
