I would really love the option to turn the game into a turn base type of game.

The old Hasbro Axis & Allies was a great hit on the CD rom and is still played to this day.
Now if you look at the new Axis & Allies RTS that did not go over so well.

I understand from the trailer that this is not going to be a click fest, But if everything is moving at the same time without turns then it is a click fest.

I do plan to buy this game, I an really putting faith in the makers of this game and hope no to get burned like I did when I picked up A&A RTS.

What really is missing is Turn Base WWII Games

From the way the game looks, it's going to be a bridge between a normal RTS and a turn-based game. It isn't fast-paced, so madly clicking everywhere won't make a huge difference. So no, it won't be a click-fest just because it's realtime.

Contradicting yourself there. By your own admission, the trailers show that this game won't be a click fest even if it is an RTS.

A turn based game isnt very realistic, as in reality a commander reacts to enemy movements in real time. However, a pause button would be good maybe in single player, so you can issue commands to several units and then hit "play" again. This might be needed as, obviously, the AI will be able to issue orders to every individual unit a lot faster than the human player.

They clearly stated that there wouldn't be any "static" battles.

seeing as how this is being developed alongside consoles i dont see why it would be a "clickfest".

He's obviously buying the PC version.

I don't care for TBS's that much, it's boring to me and I think it takes away a good deal of strategy (reacting and making decisions quicker then your oppenet).
I like how this game is going to be an RTS, it's the style I like. And I doubt there will be a turn-based option in this game, I just don't see how it could work for this game, where it will make sense.

and i was talking about gameplay development across all consoles, meaning that it is unlikely that the game will be a "clickfest" due to that fact.

What about a simultaneous turn game?
Aka:
Step 1: both Players plan out a "turn" (unit of time)simultaneously -- what their units do during the upcoming turn.
Step 2: Turn plays out, possibly with a mechanic for interruption, based on new intel of some sort.

Just my idea. I just hope this turns out to be an actual strategy game like shown in trailer.

Turn based sucks, it makes the game very boring and un realistic. The germans never waited for the americans to land on the beach and find a secure position.. the shot like madmen, in war - there are no turns

i think this could work , better then turn after turn anyway.

Turn based only works if you are going to be focusing on empire building and a long period of time, i.e. Civilization series. Turnbased games that are only battles are annoying because in battle half of the fight is pressuring your opponent to make hasty decisions and then exploit that.

If you want a slow-paced game where you try to out-think your enemy several turns ahead then there is already a game for you...CHESS! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Or any number of other more realistic tabletop wargames made more recently than chess. Including some set in WW2.

LOL why the RTS snobbery. Even the trailer was turn based. Did no one notice?

So yeah I can see pros for turn based (IE that impressive trailer) and perhaps this game is not for me if it is strictly RTS.

If reasonably priced I may give it a go anyway depending on demo/preview impressions.

If you mean the nondescriptiv teaser AKA "the bluff" then i can understand why you think its turnbased. If you mean the actual game footage then look again.

If you still don't belive me here's a snippet from the FAQ: "What sort of game is R.U.S.E.?
R.U.S.E. is a new type of RTS game that focuses heavily on the ability to deceive and mislead the enemy to determine success."

Notice RTS not TBS.

I have no problem with turn-based, personally, but I think it's better to use the power of a PC or console for realtime (except the large-scale empire-building games like Civ), and keep tabletop games for turn-based combat.

And simultaneous turn-based (or double-blind turn-based in tabletop gaming) work well, and are more realistic than the usual TBS.

But yea, the point is that since the first announcement they've openly described RUSE as being real-time.

You couldnt do it for WW2 but there is a huge market out there for RTS/TB gameplay like the total war series (which has frankly gone down hill).

This is true, however there wasn't a single commander at Normandy real-time micromanaging where everyone stepped every inch of the way either. The military depends on chain of command, which is what turn based simulates by breaking up the action, allowing a single person to act as that commander for many units at once. This isn't war, this is a game trying to simulate it.

I'll take RTS if it's well executed any day, but I appreciate turn based as well, especially for larger scale games. You get a more intelligently played game with less reflex. (I prefer slower paced, realistic shooters for that reason too.)

IMO, the best possible answer would be RTS with a pause button in single player allowing you to combine the genres. Keep the action going and enjoy it, but stop to issues orders when needed.
Pulling that off in co-op and MP...no idea how that could work. EndWar did a good job with adding voice command, but that's partially due to the smaller scale of the battles. At least developers are trying to do something different than just clickfest RTS.
