I really want the Colts to win. No one deserves it more than Manning and Dungy. I have a feeling that the defense of the Bears are going to make Manning look like a rookie. Just as the Bucs defense made Gannon did in Super Bowl 37.

I wonder if they're going to be begging for extra hours at work that night like they did last year.

Go BEARS!

I think it's interesting to note how most people are considering that Peyton Manning "deserves" it, but what about the 2006 Bears in general?

Specifically, what about Rex Grossman? Does he deserve it "less"?

In a team that had gone through several head coaches and starting quarterbacks, a reliable quarterback is a LUXURY. When Grossman was finally brought into the team, there was great hope and potential for the guy, especially since he was a runnerup for the Heisman trophy. But what happened? He gets injured. Twice. So much for wishful thinking, right?

But the kid had the heart to be a success. He battled through all of that and still managed to earn the entire team's trust. You have to admire his desire, devotion, and dedication to win.

And now, after a few good starts, he had been bombarded with media criticism... mostly for his inconsistency. "Good Rex, Bad Rex" is their constant mantra. And yet he was still motivated enough to work hard, play hard, and win. He is intelligent enough to realize that "playing to win" is sometimes not necessary... playing and minimizing mistakes can be just as effective... And look at where he and his team is, at the moment. Any other guy would've folded in his shoes.

Honestly, I feel sorry for the guy. I believe he has an even bigger chip on his shoulders than Peyton Manning does. And I DO believe that even WHEN the Bears win the Superbowl, the people of Chicago STILL won't approve of Rex Grossman, and would rather have Griese starting next year.

This is why I think the Bears will win. Grossman would be so fed up at this point (and I believe he uses this as motivation) that he is the hungrier competitor. The question is "Who wants it more", and I have to give the edge to Grossman. He will be very determined to win, come next Sunday.

good point, Ukyo. I really don't have a dog in this race, but for the sake of picking, I say DA BEEARS!

Just because Manning has come up short time after time, doesn't make him more deserving.

I want the Bears to win, but I think the Colts are going to win. I base this "I think the Colts are going to win" simply on the fact that in my heart I want the Bears to win. I have a tendancy to root for the underdog, no matter the odds.

Brimtown

Both teams have really overachieved to get here. I don't think many people gave either team much of a chance during the playoffs. The conventional wisdom said the Colt defense was too thin, there was no way they could stop Kansas City's running game. Chicago's offense was horrid, there was no way they would beat New Orleans. At this point, I really have no idea who will win. None of my teams made it, so I'll just sit back and enjoy.

For the record, however, I'm going with Indy.

Who do I want to win? Da Bears. Who do I think will win? The Colts. The Bears Defense is not that solid, the Colts offense is. The weather won't be a problem. The piece I keep hoping for is that Urlacher will blanket Clark - who is a big option for Manning. If he does that (which he can), that could make a big difference.

Also, if the Colts get up early, I don't see Chicago as having the offense to get back in it. Whereas the Colts have proven they're never out of the game if down early.

I am soooo not looking forward to the Celebration/coronation of the NFL's royal family (The Mannings).

IM gonna go with the Bears here, How does manning deserve it more then Urlacher??? Your outta your mind. SO manning has thrown countless # of Tds and Yards, But yet thats why he gets the 10s of millions, He also has a Stud Receiving Crew, plenty of targets and a decent run game.

Urlacher is Blood sweat and tears always giving it 110% and So manning finally made it to the superbowl Congrats to him. But he will pull his normal ways and choke big again. I just dont like the guy since he is part of the manning family and Eli is a little B%TCH. But ya i say the bears win this one thanks to their D.

Here is a Preview of their D right here

I want the Colts to win. Not just because I like Peyton, which I do because he seems like a class act, but I think Tony Dungy deserves it. The man's been through a lot this year. I'd like Lovie Smith to get a trophy.. but I'd like Dungy to get it first.

Commercials...

Funniest: The Bud Light Slap
Runner-up for funniest: Bud Light "Rock vs. Paper" / K-Fed "Rollin' VIP"
Cutest: Doritos "Spicy, Cheesy, Crunchy, Bold, Smooth"
WTF moments: Snickers "Lady and the Tramp" scene / Doritos "Cleanup on Register 6"

And screw all of the Bears haters... more importantly, screw all of the Rex Grossman haters. He got his team to the Superbowl on his FIRST true and complete season. You can't go all the way to the Superbowl through sheer luck alone, geniuses.

Did you even watch the entire season of the Bears?

Start with the Bears' "lucky wins" that people scoff at. It wasn't through sheer Defense alone that they won their come from behind victories (heck, their Defense wasn't all that great 2/3 of the season). It was a combination of Special Teams, Defense, and their running game. People can say all they want about the Bears only winning because of their defense... but the truth of the matter is, the Bears ARE capable on offense as well, AND they NEEDED the Bears offense to win some of their games.

I am totally hoping you watched the entire season of the Bears, because you can't (and shouldn't) really say with a straight face that it was all "Brian Urlacher and the Bears D" and nothing more. Rex Grossman deserves some credit with the wins (including ones we've seen in the postseason).

If we're going by your logic, we can also say that the Indianapolis Colts "rode" their offense to the Superbowl. Why is that situation any prettier, especially when their defense had been lacking pretty much the entire season? An even more interesting question would be: "Had the Bears won the Superbowl, would the Indianapolis Colts be criticized because Peyton Manning 'rode' his offense into the Superbowl?" Truth of the matter is, nobody is going to consider the Colts as a farce with Peyton "riding his offense into the Superbowl"... simply because they won.

I'm not saying Rex Grossman is a terrific quarterback. All I'm saying is that for what it's worth (getting sidelined for two seasons, then finally having one full season), he did a pretty damn good job. A whole lot better than all the OTHER quarterbacks who didn't make it to the Superbowl this year... let alone making it to the Superbowl on their first full season.

In fact, I'm surprised he made it that far, WHILE still earning the team's trust for him to lead them. If he was really THAT crappy of a quarterback, why do his teammates like him? He's been put under the microscope for pretty much the entire season, and he pulled through. But the media and "sports fans" just wouldn't give this poor guy a rest. Any normal man would've been totally physically and mentally destroyed a LONG time ago...but he made it this far.

Talk about fair, eh?

PacNW_CE

If Rex Grossman isn't the worst quarterback to reach the superbowl, he's damn close. The man looked about as comfortable in the pocket as a cow does in line to get on the McDonalds truck. He may be a super swell guy, but I suspect his career as a starter is over. It's not a matter of WILL he throw a ******* airball interception, but a matter of WHEN.

FYI, I am going to stand up in my cubicle at 3pm today and in my best over the top sing song voice say "Goulet!". That was my favorite commercial hands down. Does anyone really think THE Shula would lose to Jay-Z at any variety of football? Sorry Doritos add with the spicy/cheesey/bold motif, but chicks that hot don't walk down the street with a bag of your product in their hands. I saw where the Snickers add was going before the bar hit Mechanic #1's mouth. Hell, Fu was in the kitchen and knew what was happening simply because I uttered the words "this is not going to end well."

That game was boring - very boring, and I believe I've finally figured out why. Honestly, it shouldn't have been boring. It was a GAME until even the last 5 minutes according to the score board right? I should have been rivited. The fact was, it was a lopsided crushing by the Colts. The score was close, but it felt like 50-17 instead of 29-17. The stats back this up. Chicago's offense was horrendous (save for runs by Thomas Jones). Grossman was aweful this game. 4 turnovers and multiple checkdowns when not under THAT much pressure which resulted in 3-outs. The Bears were clearly outplayed and not the better team. Too bad - the game even started out really well for them. I'll just end this segment by saying Grossman is no Dilfer.

"Some people say that at 3:00 Robert Goulet shows up and messes with their stuff!" Hilarious and it wasn't shown until the 3rd quarter.

Prince - good entertainer, his best days are behind him. Short, high-pitched, too much makup, scarf around the hair, efeminate male = Sexy? Which trashy romance novel was this the Night in Shining Armor? I'll bet it was one with the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter guys brother on it. You know, the "Fredo-like" brother to Michael Corleone.

Let's all just agree on one thing: Nobody wanted to see Rex Grossman succeed. Let's just leave it at that.

Rex played like a rookie in the Superbowl. Because he IS technically a rookie, playing in a Superbowl. DURR DURR. But he'll be back... hopefully better than ever.

Because we don't really have better alternatives. :/

Ukyo, I was calling for Brian Greise before the start of the 4th quarter. After the game, I realized that calling for Brian Greise isn't necessarily an upgrade over Rex Grossman.

You're last statement says it all: You are screwed because this is your quarterback unless they (the Bears front office) grow a pair an sign someone in the off season. I thought Chicago was a major market? Why won't the owner spend money on his players/coaches? (so says the Patriots fan who's team won't spend money to save their lives)

I didn't feel like digging up the college FB thread, but today is National Signing Day and I'm excited. Auburn has one of their best recruiting classes in a long time(#8 by most). It's hard to put a lot of faith in 17 and 18 year old kids who may or may not be for real, but it sure is nice knowing that some of the nation's and SE's best talent is going to suit up for the Tigers. The SEC has SIX teams in the top ten this year(UF, UT, USC(watch out for Spurrier),LSU, AU, and UGA.) This is pretty much the "last hoorah" for CFB until the spring game(and then of course, September). Now it's time to really focus on my other passion, College Basketball!!
