Reviving a post that died a few months ago...

The question is, what is your favorite opening as white? As black?

I usually open with 1.e4 as white, my favorite being the Ruy Lopez, but I've been experimenting with the King's Gambit and various lines of the Italian game too. I also like the English Opening and occasionally the Reversed Alekhine Defense (1.g3 e5 2.Nf3), which I don't think many people know of.

As black against 1.e4 I like either the Sicilian (can't really pick a favorite variation because 99% of people online here play anti-Sicilians http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif, but so far I like the Najdorf, Scheveningen, and Dragon Variations) and sometimes the Caro-Kann, Pirc/Modern, and Alekhine Defenses. Against 1.d4 I like either the Grunfeld or the King's Indian, but again I can't get many people to play the main lines, so I really don't get a chance to experiment.

i never really studied openings (probably why i so bad) i have a hrd time rembering facts and things so find it ahrd to commite it all to memory!!
i'm much better at understandning theroys and ideas. mind you i got to get a grip on end games. i usual end up making games go on far to long before winning.

do u use gameknot at all c1arinetboy?? there u can set up a mini tornment and set up starting postion. might be easier to find people to play it there

I just looked at that website, and its pretty cool, though the english translation is kind of bad. Can I challenge you to a game?
