Saving Patrols

I am new to Silent Hunter III - can anyone tell me how to save patrols half way through, so that you can come back and start from the save?

Welcome to UBI bchant !!!

1) Make sure you are surfaced, and there are no ships around.

2) Press the Esc key, and choose Save & Exit.

3) Do not install any mods until you finish your patrol.
