This is a non-historical evening bombing mission involving the SBD-5 and a target Japanese airfield on a volcanic island. It is of note that this particular volcano is active and quite dangerous. Also below is a template for the active volcano which can be used in further mission-building endeavors and this includes a P-40 so you can fly in and check out the eruption. The volcano can be amusing as it will erupt periodically for about 20 minutes. Feedback appreciated.

Hey, I legitimately stole this idea from someone else a while ago for my Rabaul template that I've been stalling on completing for way too long! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Yours is much more impressive, though! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I didnt even know we had that. Now if we just had some blasted WIND it would look pretty good. ive never seen smoke going straight up.

Now if you put a bunch of B-25s, spits, P-40s etc, on a base, you could have Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, which erupted in 43 and damaged or destroyed more AC than the axis ever did in that theatre. Burned off all the control coverings and destroyed all the plexiglass.

Actually, you need to make it by piecing a bunch of cliff pieces together, add fire and smoke....voila!

Falcon's idea is even smarter! Note that his volcano ERUPTS each 20 minutes! This is more than adding fire and smoke! It's really great, I have a feeling we can use it with other things "erupting" at CERTAIN time.

Just grabbed and I'll try it later. Great idea with the "eruptions".

Oh, most definitely. I assume aircraft spawn inside at certain times and go BOOM. Whatever he came up with, it was genius.

Any ideas of how to use it for more 'conventional' purposes?

the respawning of planes in a burning fire is exactly what i'm trying by fuel drums. simulates secondary explosions nicely.

Downloaded it and played it. Good job there! The volcano is a hoot! Beware though, It says in the brief that it will continue erupting for a while. I foolishly ignored that one time and found out the hard way why sight-seeing trips are not a good idea! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Very, very clever Prairie_Falcon and well done. Thanks! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thanks for the feedback all. Currently these eruptions occur approximately every minute or so in the Volcano Template and this continues for about 20 minutes. I am working on some variations and improvements. Examination of the *.mis file illustrates how this all works.
The same principle can be used to create damage to any particular structure or location at the beginning, or during a mission (ie: When finishing a mission, you could return to find your base totally annihilated as this could be used to augment the damage caused by enemy bombers. Also, this technique could be used to emulate some sort of sabateur activity on the ground, with the explosions set to go at a certain time at a key site). There are many possibilities.
