Ok.. so game installed loaded fine...
OMG! I've been playing for three hours... correction trying to play for 3 hours and hitting nothing but problem after problem after problem.
Time Compression:
Works for all of 2 seconds and then gets stuck on 1 (or 0). I tried starting a career... took 40 min just to clear the harbor, there's no land for at least 2km in any direction and no other ships but I still can't use TC past 1x!!!
Crew Orders:
Tried the deck gun tutorial... kept telling my gunner to fire at close range (1,000km or less) and he's still trying to hit the target at 4,000km.
Speaking of Tutorials:
I go through all of them get a completed message and then the only thing I can do is "Abort the Mission." I don't want to abort! I want to end it! Would put TC on to see if it ends later but see my first problem.
Load Times:
Not too bad but still long. 2+ minutes to start the program. 45-90 seconds to load into the game.
UZO/Binocs:
Yeah yeah, I have a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra and all I see is white fuzz when I'm moving and looking forward. atm just using the attack periscope but it's still annoying
Popping Sounds:
Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop ... Pop Pop ... Popity popity ...
****! Chinese water torcher isn't as bad as this!
(Sound Blase Live! X-gamer 5.1)
... pop ... ARG!
Time Compression:
Did I mention I'm still trying to get out of the F*****G harbor stuck at 1x!! Yes I saved and reloaded, yes I shut down and restarted the program (and my computer).
Loading a Saved Game:
I get a pop-up telling me if I load the game, it'll delete it. ... WTF! You load a saved game and it deletes the save?
any way... back to beating my head against the wall... Nothing better to do until I can finally use TC again.

There are options to tweak time compression in the config file. You can set it so that it always allows maximum time compress.
I don't know what's up with the crew orders thing. Did you try telling him to hold fire, then reset the distance to 1000m?
Aborting is ending the mission. If you complete it, you abort. You still get a successful mission, right?
Load times - it's a simulation so it's a complex program. Most good simulations take a while to load.
UZO: I'm sure this is job #1 on the developers' patch list.
Popping sounds - Sound Blaster Audigy sucks. It's not the game's fault that the most popular sound card is a piece of cr@p.
Deleting a saved game - that's realism for you. In a simulation, you don't get second chances. If you die, you're dead, end of story.

Best thing I've seen posted today! NO CHEATING!
I have GeForce4 Ti4400.
I get the UZO bug, really game breaker.
I kept completing the mission and not getting credit ... but I think I found out why. You have to click through ALL the text info up to the last page otherwise it won't count the exam.
(least that is what I think happened). Soon as I clicked through all the text and re-ran the mission I got an Excellent.
I have a sound bug with the ping and its real nasty. Gonna have to make sure my sound drivers are up to date, but I thought they were.
Wonderful game, but it does have some serious problems.

In a game with this much realism, cheating should be defined by the player, not the community. If I approach a convoy, save, get into a good position, save, die, restart at the 1st save, doesn't go as well, now why the hell can I not go back to the 2nd save where I was in good position? That's the whole point of SAVING!

quote:
Sound Blaster Audigy sucks

Don't have the Audigy. I have the SB Live! which has worked great on every game I have ever played. Is the popping an intentional sound effect? Sure doesn't sound like it.

I checked and I actually do get credit for it but it's very confusing. The "Mission Ended" credit is 0 so it sounds like the game is supposed to end the mission.
As far as the TC stuff goes, it finaly let me move faster.
The deck gun thing is just wierd. If I say hold your fire, it doesn't shoot at all. Even if I'm right on top the person. If I click Fire at Will and then Short range, the gunner tries to shoot the target regardless of range.

Well if you command 'Hold Fire', I certainly hope your gunner doesn't shoot! And 'Fire At Will' should mean just that, range shouldn't be considered with that command. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, fire at will anything within a certain range. If I click Hold Fire and then the range one, the gunner never shoots.

True, but in a world dominated by the arcade gamer mentality, it's nice to see a decision made that's geared towards the hardcore simulation gamer for a change.

Have you gotten your gunners to actually shoot at anything without first locking a target in your binoculars? I haven't.
All those individual gunner commands don't seem to work unless you lock up a target for them.

I just played the game 1 hour and its great.
The only problem that I found is when using UZO its all fog and you can't see anything. Am using Nvidia card. I havent used the time compression yet, I need to play the game more to see if I can find more bugs. So far its hard to get used to controls.
Grafics are sharp, no problems with game being slow on my PC.
Here are my specs.
2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Windows XP Professional (build 2600)
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 'K8N' Rev 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
NVIDIA nForce3 250 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6)
NVIDIA nForce3 250 Serial ATA Controller (v2.6) NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE

Have you tried clicking 'hold fire' then 'range one' then 'fire at will'? There might be a specific order you have to abide by to get them to stick to your range requirements, and this would seem like the way you'd do it in real life - i.e. stop firing, then adjust range, then open fire.
Just a thought.

YES!!!!!! I bought the game and been playing it for about 5 hrs http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
ok, passed all the academy missions.. no problems with that.. but i did encounter that popping sound mentioned above.. i have a sb live! card.. oh well, a slight disspaointment considering everything else! i love the crew management feature! damage seems to be quite realistic.. trided the gibraltar mission and managed to get half way through while being constantly depth charged and attacked every time i tried to surface the boat at night. what did me in was going in too deep in trying to avoid the sonar.. increadible! though it was dissapointing i never made it.. it was amazing the fun i had and the challenges i encountered. encountered one crash during loading of a mission.. but that i suspect had to do with memory limitations, i have the minimum bare 512mb ram.. cpu is 2.0ghz athlon xp and a ati 9550 agp 4x. I must say, this sim is worth every penny! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Have you tried time compression on the navigation map? The game fixes max TC in a
3D Mode view to 32x, but allows you to go
up to 1024x in 2D map view

Mine's been working. Of course, I've been playing the naval academy scenarios all evening. What I've found with the time compression, is that it resets to 1 whenever I do something that changes the view from inside to outside the ship. Go up to the bridge? 1x. Set TC to 8x, works fine. Go back to the map room? 1x. Set TC back to 8. Dive to periscope depth. Raise the attack scope? 1x. I don't really mind it.
As to the save game thing, it's in the readme:

quote:
3.4.3 Save
IN CAREER MODE, DELETING OR LOADING A SAVE FILE WILL DELETE ALL THE SUBSEQUENT SAVE FILES FOR THAT PROFILE.
E.g: if your last save in career is date 25 July 1943 and you delete or load a save (or autosave) file in 13 September 1940, all the saves (and autosaves) following 13 September 1940 will be deleted.

It doesn't delete THAT save. It removes any later saves from the same profile. So if you back up, you really back up. You can't do something, save afterwards, back up to an earlier save to try something different, and if that doesn't work, reload the save after you suceeded the first time.
