Thanks much for the overview but what I most wanted to know is if settlers 6 is like settlers 2,3,4,or 5? Number five was a bit of a disappointment for me and I would rather not be disappointed again.

I guess that when the demo is released, you will be able to download that, and find out for yourself which settlers it is like. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the link simdude i read the interview.
What has me worried is that IGN says at the end of the interview that the game is going to release in october instead of september like the official website says please tell me this is not true this would mean we have to wait a extra month.
Or is the game going to be released in october for Amerika and september for Europe.
Please anser this as soon as posible.

No Beta yet is normal, its not unusual for a Beta version to be released 1-2 weeks before the release of the actual game.

I have owned all the Settlers games and VI looks like it is a progression of V. I know this post will most likely be taken off and I'll be banned. I'm not out to harm anyone just to say I loved the earlier Settlers games and that stating V was a disappointment is an understatement. My reason for this post is to say I will continue to check out future Settlers games but if it's like five or any type of progression to it I won't buy it. The fifty bucks isn't that much to me for a game I'll gladly spend it if I think I'll get some enjoyment out of it. Settlers V was horrible, it was a disaster please make the next game a true Settlers game. After inspecting this web site I know I won't bother to buy this one to keep from feeling that disappointment again. Someone high up in the organization, a decision maker, made a major mistake. He or she needs to own up to it or needs to be removed, change is not always for the best in this case you sadly took a step in the wrong direction.

thank you and good luck in your future game designing...

You wont get banned or your post deleted,I too HATE what they did to the Settlers series with HoK (Heap of Krap).

My own personal thoughts on why the game took a dramatic step was purely the fact that the Settlers series appealed to a very limited market of people, where as the likes of HoK,AoE,WC2 etc are played by way way more.Gaming houses are there to make money, pure and simple.

What they did do wrong was to use the Settlers name, which implied to many me included for a time that it was a follow one to Settlers4 as S4 was to S3.

In my mind if they can produce a one off game as they did with S2 10th anniversary, then why the hell cant they produce a "proper" Settlers game, and keep the genuine original Settlers players happy.

Dont give up on S6 before you have seen the demo though.

Why do us Aussies always have to wait longer?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I know it's only a few days BUT I'm sure we contribute enough to the $$$ made. If Harry Potter can be worldwide on the 1 day why can't others follow http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif yes I'm having a winge http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

I've seen some movies, and I think this is a 'real' settlers again. For those who haven't seen these movies yet: On This page (http://www.gamed.nl/view/29035#185827) You can find some. This page is dutch but the movies aren't, so don't worry http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm very excited about this Settlers because I was so disappointed in the last one. I always loved Settlers for its micromanagement and watching everyone go about their business. I thought that trying to be yet another 'me too' RTS was the worst thing they could have done as the genre is already saturated with much better quality titles.

Settlers 6 looks like the series is back on track, giving people what they want and focusing heavily on the settling and less on the fighting.

Still not sure about the whole 'hero' thing. I just don't see why we need that kind of gaming dynamic in Settlers at all.

Fingers crossed on being in the beta, I've played settlers since the original settlers II, after which I got settlers I before continuing to III. Played them all since. Currently reliving Settlers II with the remake http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

I just hope it's gonna be more like part 2 and not like 5. For me Settlers was always more economic than strategic game.

Jedi_Lenny

part 2 was the best, I just hope that 6 will surpass that with a bigger selection of buildings, people and resources. 5 was good for a change but we never went back a played again after finishing is. 2 we still play today.

I played 5 for like 3-4 hours and hated every bit of it, so I went back to 2 also. The anniversary version was cute, but the original is always best.

I am waging that the muliplayer part is the most anticipated for me atm, I look forward to playing and looking at what could be a very ingrossing game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So the question is.. gameplay in part 6 will be more like old Settlers (including pt.3 and 4) or like S5 when game became RTS. I just hope in this new part there will be the same 'spirit' like in earlier parts.

Hi, this is BB_Magic speaking (I am the producer of the game). We are now starting to be a bit more present in the forums and do not want to neglect the UK one, as I know there are quite a few Settlers fans in your country. I have also just a couple of days ago answered some of your questions and I hope you will soon get to see this.

Regarding the spirit, it definitly is much more along the lines of the older Settlers games. It is a bit tough to find the good way with all the different Settlers games in the past, but I am very optimistic we have found a good way. No, this is not the remake or strict follow-up of a specific Settlers title, but especially as much as "building" and "creation" is concerned, this is much more like the older ones. I am looking forward to hearing your comments about this as soon as you have played the game or the demo.

nice to meet you bb_magic, we have been big fans of the settlers games for years now and really hope the older versions are the ones that have inspired your game construction. those little guys have become a part of our family as they bring together everyone from dad (47) to boys (26, 22) daughter (7) and me (44). it bridges the gaps that are our ages

That is great. We have always considered Settlers very much a family brand. Settlers is inspired by the older versions. It does some new things as well. I hope you will like it!

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif I want the old settlers style back. I want to be able to put a building where and when I choose to, and attack people when I decide its the right time.

I have all my fingers crossed for S6. We've all been waiting for years since the last 'true' Settlers was released.

That said... looking good so far guys. Keep up the good work.

On the off chance that BB_Magic happens to read this...

I loved settlers 2 to 4, I even liked the way settlers 5 headed, but my biggest problem with 5, and one I think I will have with settlers 6, is the lack of a real AI opponent.

Scripting can only go so far, and ruins most of the replay value. I know online play is an option, but it has its own problems like disconnecting players, network lag, etc. Sometimes its nice to have an enemy you know will always be there, and take it like a man.

So will settlers 6 have a real AI?

If not, would bluebyte be able to, or even interested in including one in a future expansion?

It will just be scripted for sp like HoK, and with the same type of mp. human opponents only, dunno why they can't have an AoE style AI, they would even offer to ally with you if you wanted.

Games awesome can't wait for it to come out. Demo has sold me even tho there was a couple minor bugs. I've played pretty much all the old settlers like most here. Love them all, but recently been doing a lot of system upgrades. This gives me a good game to test on my system, and from reading the features and what i have felt, the game has taken my time from wow just to see the new settlers game. Not like the old, but things change bring the new stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Been playing the demo with no save feature, so been leaving computer on hours at a time. Fix bugs, put a save feature and everything else thats there. I'll play none stop http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

As far as I know, it's already out today in the US.

EDIT
Although some places are saying the 25th as the US release date, no one I've checked with can find it in any US shops.

I got an email the day before last telling me my collector's edition is on the way from Europe.

My other copy is due Thursday (tomorrow) or Friday here in Australia.

So I'm wondering which one will reach my grubby hands first, personally I hope it's the one with the leather bag, it smells better than cardboard http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
