metal box

116 page deluxe edition of the recognition manual http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Heheh, you beat me to it by a matter of seconds.
Someone at Ubisoft obviously listened. Kudos. I've accordingly removed my protest from my signature.
I've ordered my Limited Deluxe Edition. I do have a question for UK people though: it is true VAT is not supposed to be applied to sales outside the UK? £11.17 out of £74.99 is a hefty whack. I've not bought much from the UK online (America is usually cheaper for me) but I seem to remember I was not required to pay VAT.
One point though. I was required to verify my Mastercard via my own bank. In my case, I was already registered with my bank to use its Internet banking facilities, so it was a simple matter. However, if people outside the UK (or EU, I'm not entirely sure), are not so registered with their bank then they may have to do this first before they could complete their order.
The link for those interested: http://shop.ubi.com/SH4/UK/
Edit: PS: note that Ubisoft will hit your credit card immediately the order is confirmed. It's not waiting until the product actually ships.

Does this mean that, despite not having an official UBI salesman in Slovenia, that I can preorder it via German or UK site?
If not I`ll have to ask one of YOU guys to do it for me.

But once again confusement here !
The german webiste said something about a Collector's Edition and Super Collector's edition.
This is now the "Deluxe Edition".....
So i assume this is what they called the Collectors Edition before ?
And there is still another version coming too ? Or has this been cancelled now and merged into Deluxe ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

According to HM Revenue & Customs web site, VAT is only applicable to supplies within the UK and the Isle of Man. I have contacted Ubisoft's Online Store customer service and asked for the VAT to be rebated to me.

Think about it logically. The German site had the Normal game and the Collector's Edition. We know their contents and prices. The Limited Deluxe Edition contains more than the Collector's Edition. Therefore it must be the "Super Collector's Edition".

Well, why don't you go to the UK site (I gave the link) and see for yourself? I didn't look for Slovenia on the dropdown list of countries available on the order form.

The system allows you to have more than one delivery address. Just name it "home" or whatever to distinguish it by name from any other addresses you might use.

'asdress' obviously means 'address'
The site is asking you to give a name to that address, e.g. 'Home' or 'Office', so that you can store multiple addresses in your Ubi store account.

I wonder. Remembering I ordered on what I thought was the UK web site and I was charged in pounds, this is Ubisoft's response:
Dear Customer,
Our e-shop is located in France, and therefore we have to apply French governmental policies. The VAT in France has to be refunded to the French government, and we do not have the ability to propose free of tax goods to our customers.
We can only propose to cancel this order and your payment if you would wish it.
Unless the French VAT is also 17.5% this strikes me as bizarre. It seems as though Ubisoft France is claiming that French law requires them to collect a UK tax that UK law says is not applicable in this case.
Any lawyers in the house?

Since he said "So it seems this deluxe edition is available to us ALL!!" I understood that to mean everyone every where. Even in the US. Could be my bad?
I called the bank and it was a freud/theif system that stopped it from going through according to them. I reoedered it and it went through then. Though, I must be out of my mind to paid that much for the Delx Edit. But oh well. Its only money.....

In the post to which I linked AudibleKnight was quite clear. There is no US/Canadian Deluxe/Limited/Special edition. The US/Canada gets a limited time special packaging offer after which that market will undoubtedly revert to the normal game.
The rest of the world gets the Normal game, the Collector's Edition (no stated time limits on either) and the Limited Deluxe Edition (3,000 copies worldwide thereof).
If people in the US/Canada can in fact order the Limited Deluxe Edition from Ubisoft then they should be aware they are ordering the European packaging. I have no idea whether that has any significance for SH4.

I don't know what you ordered. If you preordered the US/Canadian edition then you'll get the limited time special US/Canadian package detailed by AudibleKnight.
If you want the Limited Deluxe Edition then you'll have to get off to the Ubisoft online store quick smart. I truly do not understand what part of "only from the Ubisoft online store" is giving people problems with the Limited Deluxe Edition.

If you went to the US Ubisoft online store then that would be consistent with everything Audibleknight has said.
Ubisoft has more than one online store and I would have thought by now the distinction between the US/Canada and the rest of the world was as clear as it could be. We've been debating it for nearly two weeks.
I am not going to buy "The Special DeLuxe Edition!"
Why?
1. All the gifts and goodies would/do not enhance the gaming experiance for me!
2. I am not a "collector" of things, Special Editins included.
I hope the Herr kaleun who buys 'mine' has a great time with it.
Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Well,
I've ordered my Deluxe Edition an hour ago.
As I live in France, I can tell you that TheRealPotoroo was right : Our VAT is 19.6%.
Personally, I've paid 69.90 €uros (a bit expensive, but I'd prefer by far to pay such prices for my video games if the packaging was always reaching the same level).

Can someone answer this question? In the U.S. the SH4 website show a "Limited Edition". But what comes with it is different from what is shown on the German website. Is there a different release for different countries? I like what I see on the German site, and don't want to settle for what the SH4 site lists. I hope this isn't a case where the Germans get everything...... They have Porsche, BMW, Mercedes...... Only kidding. German heritage here. Gotta go before I die. Then up to Sweeden for the other half. It seems weird though that there seem to be alot of different products in the different packages.

If you order from the UK/Europe you have to order Express which is another 50 dollars I believe, man 150 bucks for a video game?

I just ordered the Deluxe Edition for 49.99 Pounds, plus the unholy 25 Pound shipping charge. I'm in Canada; we use a different video format over here. Does this mean the DVD will not play on my DVD player? Or, will it play on my laptop's DVD player? At this point I am guessing that it will not, but I can always hope otherwise. If it won't play, then I will be taking it with me next time I visit the UK.

"I hope this isn't a case where the Germans get everything...... They have Porsche, BMW, Mercedes...... Only kidding."
Funny !
Here in Europe, we just see too many of these cars, and we'd love to see more american cars on our roads such as Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, Vettes, Chevelles... Well, anything that Detroit could produce http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
My personal Camaro would love to see more of her sisters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Originally posted by Kaleun1961http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifoes this mean the DVD will not play on my DVD player? The UK uses Region DVD code 2. In Canada, as you're no doubt aware, it's Region 1. Your DVD player won't play it by default, though your DVD player on your PC/laptop will (as this is dependant on your DVD media software region setting), depending on the player. Most players allow you to change the region up to 5 times before it locks (though there are ways around this).

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I bet this topic comes up again amongst us who are fortunated enough to get this disc. The Ubi store accepted my credit card and confirmed my order, so I guess I'm one of the 3000. We lucky few, we band of brothers.
May I ask what the CAD currency you were charged after everything was said and done? I'm guessing it was around $196.00 CAD?
I ask as I'm also in Canada, and considering ordering the Deluxe Edition, too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Cheers.

I don't know what the currency conversion was. I think the Pound is around two to one Canadian Dollar. I'm guessing it'll be about $150 Canadian for me. On second thought, I should have had it delivered to my inlaws in the UK. My son is going over in a few months to visit them, he could have brought it back to me. ******* I am!
Thanks.
Well I suppose you could edit the delivery easily enough.
With respect to the cost, I did the math and found:
£49.99 (SH4 DE)
£25.00 (shipping)
£11.17 (17.5% VAT)
Comes to £86.16
The current conversion rate is, $1.00 CAD nets you roughly £0.4397 So that's around $196.00 CAD to get £86.16
Not an inexpensive game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Not to mention, since Fedex is delivering it, they will definitely collect duty on delivery. So there's a little extra on top of that too.

I think the VAT is built in to the price. In Canada, sales tax is added on to the price. That's why my wife, from England, was confused when I brought her over here. She took a while to learn she had to add the tax, because in the UK the tax is built in to the price.
Ahh, OK. You're correct on the VAT. Thanks for the clarification.

There's no technical reason the DVD couldn't be Region 0 (no region).
As for region locking in players, I'd be surprised if many countries were still selling them. In Australia you'd be hard pressed to find a DVD player that's still locked to Region 4. Between consumers not buying them and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ruling the practice is anticompetitive they effectively disappeared. I've had a Pioneer and a Sony DVD player and neither were region locked. PC DVD drives, for some strange reasson, are a different story.
I also expect the DVD to be NTSC format. This should suit North America, where most TV/DVD systems are NTSC only, and the rest of the world where they tend to be multisystem. Although Australia uses PAL, my VCR, DVD player and TV will all handle NTSC and even SECAM.

That may be true, though it doesn't change the fact it's a Region 2 DVD. Scroll down and read the description of the exclusive DVD documentary (http://shop.ubi.com/SH4/UK/).

Oops. I missed that.
It won't affect me but I can see it affecting many people in other countries where region locking is still prevalent. How unnecessarily stupid. R0 was the obvious choice for a world-wide release.

@Messervy - if you click on the 'pre-order now' button on the www.silenthunter4.com (http://www.silenthunter4.com) home page, which Ubi shop do you see?
Done!
I get a French site but then I used your link and got UK site.
I`ve selected Slovenia and all went smooth.
I hope I managed to get within 3000 number.

No problem Messervy. I think (hope?) Ubisoft will remove the Deluxe edition from their online stores as soon as the 3000 are gone, so I'm sure you'll get yours.

I have at last pre-ordered my copy of SHIV - it is the most I have spent on a game but considering the extras included I think the price is worth it. Besides I don;t really buy many games at all - the last one I bought was Company of Heroes and that was in December last year.

Hi,
I've been doing the submarine sims since 1987, first on an Atari ST, then PCs and have about worn out SH 1.3.
I am well aware of the pricy Deluxe Edition's price of 49.99 GBP, and was wondering what the "standard" edition will run in $?
Thanks,

While we moan and groan about the price of SH4 deluxe it's worth remembering that the price of £49.99 is the same price that the original Silent Hunter game (with only a manual) was released at in 1996! Eleven years ago.
In general most PC games are much cheaper today than they were then.

That is very true!
Need For Speed (the first one) was over £40 on release
'Under A Killing Moon' (one of the very First 4CD games released) was £70!!
Even Mega Drive games were always around £40-50
It's only greedy licenses (MS/Sony/Nintendo royalties) on consoles & games today which makes them so rediculously expensive! -Hence why PC games are cheaper.
