I'm asking because the Splinter Cell novels contradicts the Splinter Cell games and I don't think those are canon.

How about Ghost Recon novel? Would appreciate an official answer.

Why would they CARE?

The books and games sell. Why should they CARE if their crap contradicts their other crap?

People will buy them anyway, and that is all that matters.

Besides, its hard work keeping things straight when they change everything at the drop of a hat, so why would they bother? This way, they can save man hours and money by ticking off the fans.

Business as usual for Ubisoft

Are the book and the games set in the same universe, or alternate? That is what meant by canon.

And again...

Why would UBISOFT care?

Its not their problem. Likely they don't know, and couldn't care less.

Oh and btw, I KNOW what canon means. I just doubt that Ubisoft gives **** about it.

Synergy.

If gamers understood the novels directly tied into the games, some of them might be a bit more likely to check them out.

And you might even have a (very small) number of people who stumbled across the novel who are then interested in checking out the game-- that is if they realized it was essentially the 'next chapter' of the book they just read.

So you may be right -- the bottom line rules the world -- but that bottom line might just be a little fatter if the books are deemed cannon. That's why Ubisoft might care.

Until this topic, I didn't even realise there was a Ghost Recon, or Splinter Cell book!

Which, in this case, were released AFTER the games and as a direct result of them.

I honestly wouldn't be irked if the books aren't canon. I only asked if it was canon because I only read the books (and other outer-game materials) only if they were canon so I can know more about the game universe. Otherwise if it's not canon, then I simply wouldn't bother with the book. That is all.

There is a problem with that. It would make SENSE. Ubisoft's current corporate strategy seems to be silence on all things pertaining to their games. Good luck getting an answer from them.

Hey, you might. Miracles DO happen.

Just to clear things.

Cannon is an artillery weapon.

Canon is the word here.
