I saw it was available at the http://www.u-boot.realsimulation.com/.

Anyone allready tried it out? Are there a lot of noticeable changes if you compare it with 1.02?

I am now in the middle of a patrol so it might be a while before I can install it. But if the comments are very good I might rush to homeport tonight!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

If you patch or add a mod in the middle of a patrol, you lose that patrol?

Would explain why I can't load my last saved game after adding a bunch of mods...

With IUB102 you had to install it over a clean installation of Silent Hunter III. I don't know if this is the case with IUB103, I'm still researching this mod.

It is recommended that you install over a clean install. I didn't, I just rolled SHIII Commander back and uninstalled all my mods with JSGME then installed IUB 1.03 with JSGME and it seems to be working fine.

Just re-installed SH3, updates and IUB 1.03

WOW - I love the main menu screen alone - has to be seen to believe it! I won't give the game away and spoil it so just get the mod installed!!

You won't be disapointed!

And to those who were involved - Nice work guys http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have only just started a new career and there seem to be a few changes - for the better I must add.

The first one was the graphics, the uniforms are clearer, the boat itself looks a little more weather beaten, the smoke stacks at the Port look very good as well as the smoke from the ships too. The diesel engines of the U Boat sound awesome (chugging away quite happily).

The map screen has some lovely additions, there are 4 movable sections that can be moved about the screen using your mouse, they include information on minefields and nets at U-Boat Bases, Convoy and Air Defense map and two other sheets that contain a list of numbers etc not sure ont that one.

These are just a taster, altogether the game seems graphically improved i.e. a little more polished, and I have no idea what the gameplay is going to be like yet - hopefully full of some nice suprises!

I think the whole mod is WORTH the unistall and re-install of SH3 alone!

I have a question on the install. I installed JSGME and then put the Improved U-boat103 in the MODS directory. JSGME shows available MODS as:

Improved U-boat103

Installed IUB. Closed JSGME. Started SH3 and start screen shows IUB 103. Played around awhile to make sure the game worked.

Restarted JSGME and now shows available MODS as:

8Km Visual Range
BordInstrumente-LowContrast
Harbour Traffic Lite
HeavyRadioMessages
HeavySoundsMod
NavMap Contact (NoTail Only)
NavMap Contact (NoTail-NoDash)
NavMap Contact (Tails)
Rub 1.45 Full

Did these not get installed with IUB? I saw that they are in a MODS directory in the main IUB directory.

If they didn't get installed I just need to activate the ones I want to use?

I also see a SH3 Commander directory included with a cfg directory. Do I need to put those file in the SH3 Commander cfg dir? I just installed version 2.4.

Thanks.

Before I answer your question I need to address something. An AM in a VT or HS squadron (who was part of an Air Wing) does not constitute you as a Plank Owner of a ship.

Unless you were assigned a permanent duty station as "ship's company" (not Squadron personnel) then you are not a Plank Owner.

By adding that tag to your signature, you offend true plank owners and US Naval serviceman who know better. I highly and strongly recommend that you remove it from your signature line, unless you can provide viable proof that you are indeed a plank owner of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) by a certified US Navy certificate.

Now, to answer your question about the IUB 1.03 options. Those features are installed by enabling them using JSGME. They are there as optional features for those who seek realism.

As far as the SH3 files are concerned, I cannot help you there. I assume that they need to be installed in the root SH3 folder, but we need confirmation.

Sincerely,

To answer your first part:

Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd = AD2
1979-1981: VT-23 NAS Kingsville, TX
1981: HS-1 NAS JAX,FL for FRAMP training
1981-Aug 1982: USS Carl Vinson Pre-commisioning/Commisioning crew Newport News, VA. Assigned as ships company AIMD, engine shop. Got hurt and was medically discharged. I was working on my AW rating at the time of my accident and never got to finish.

As for the certificate, my Plank Owner Certificate is hanging on the wall signed by the CO. I also have my service jacket with my orders.

I would never put anything in my sig that wasn't true! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

For the rest of the message, I thought I read here that RUB was part of IUB in some way and not to install RUB because it would mess up the files.

The rest I'll install what I want to try.

Thanks.

That's right, AD2. I miss typed the rating http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Well they sent you to AIMD huh? I guessing they put you in IM-3 (or IM-2) Division. I don't remember because I was a ship's company BB Stacker, working WEPS DEPT G-1 and G-3 divisions.

Why in the world did they send you to FRAMP school, just to put you as ship's company? It doesn’t make sense to send you to a HS squadron to learn (SH-3 I presume) helicopter systems and then turn around and send you to the "Chucky V"... all within a year!

I too was medically discharged (four herniated disks that are bulging onto my spinal cord). I was pushing a 2000lb JDAM during Operation Enduring Freedom. The ship took a roll one way... the bomb went the other, and my back was in the middle of the argument.

Treesqueak
03-18-2006, 10:52 PM
HS-1 was the FRAMP school for the east coast. They trained everyone from maintenance to SAR.

I'm doing this from memory, 1st was SH3 familiarization training, then I was sent over to AIMD NAS JAX for school on the T58 Turboshaft engines the Sea Kings used. Then over to NAS Mayport for aircraft firefighting training. So my primary job onboard ship would be the engines for the SH3's. IM-2 division sounds right.

I actually had one of my "A" school instructors going through the class also. He went elseware.

"Chucky V" eh? We called her the "Starship Vinson" from ADM on down to Seaman. She broke all sorts of records during sea trials, hence the name. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The only time I went to sea was during the sea trials. I got hurt before deployment so that was the extent of my sea time on her. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Lost an argument with a JDAM, Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I bet you are still in alot of pain. I still have pain even after 24 years.

AO1_AW_SW_USN
03-18-2006, 11:07 PM
Yeah, the pain kills me somtimes... but I have a great VA hospital here in Dallas who perscribes the good stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

We called the USS Carl Vinson several names: "Chucky V", "USS Carl Prison (Cell Block 70)", "USS Never Dock"... you name it. I actually miss that ship, but not the noise that's attached to her.

I get some good stuff perscribed by the VA also here in Fairbanks or Anchorage, but unfortunately I can't really take them when I need them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I'm an Air Traffic Control Specialst and the FAA frowns on drugged up controllers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I can only take them on my days off with 24-48 hrs between the time I take them and go back to work.

I miss the Vinson also. My brother is also a plank owner from the USS Stennis. I have a nephew over in Kuwait on a minesweeper, USS Cardinal.

Dad was an ARMY Officer and all of us kids either stayed out of the military or joined the NAVY. He once asked where did he go wrong with us going into the USN. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Now some IUB stuff. I thought I read somewhere in the forums that RUB was integrated into IUB in some way and not to install RUB because it would mess up the files. Is this true or can I install RuB also using JSGME?

AO1_AW_SW_USN
03-19-2006, 12:23 AM
It's possible, but you have to know which file goes in each folder without corrupting your game. If you do some research on each mod and know what files were tinkered with and where they need to go, then it shouldn't be a problem. But like I said, you have to know what you're doing, otherwise you'll have a bad install of SH3.

Personally I haven't attempted it. I usually stick with one mod or the other... in this case I use IUB 1.03 as well.

Blue_Ninja63

Yes Rub is fully integrated into IUB103 so you don't need to install Rub separately.

Regards,

Thanks. It's kind of misleading though, since when IUB is installed with JSGME it puts a Rub folder in the mods directory with other mods as below:

8Km Visual Range
BordInstrumente-LowContrast
Harbour Traffic Lite
HeavyRadioMessages
HeavySoundsMod
NavMap Contact (NoTail Only)
NavMap Contact (NoTail-NoDash)
NavMap Contact (Tails)
Rub 1.45 Full

Now are these MODS already integrated into IUB also? If they are seems odd that it would put the folders into the MOD directory during install.

I'll browse thru the readme's incase I missed something.

In jsgme you just have to activate those mods by highlighting them in the left pane and moving them to the right pane with the top arrow key.

I understand that, but previously you said RuB was integrated into IuB and didn't need to install it even though it shows up on the left side in JSGME. Roger that. No problem there.

Now these MODS below show up on the left side also after IuB install:

8Km Visual Range
BordInstrumente-LowContrast
Harbour Traffic Lite
HeavyRadioMessages
HeavySoundsMod
NavMap Contact (NoTail Only)
NavMap Contact (NoTail-NoDash)
NavMap Contact (Tails)

Are these already integrated into IuB like RuB is or are these seperate installs?

I'm not dense (though my wife would disagree http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif), it just seems odd if the MODS are already integrated into IuB to list them in the left box in JSGME.

BTW, what's the difference between Harbour Traffic Lite and Harbour Traffic?

After you install IUB, thoses mods appear as options to install seperately to your taste after IUB has been installed.

Harbour traffic lite is there if you have a low end computer and are experiencing too much slowdown in port due to all the new ships that the harbour mod introduces.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The options are basically a mix to tailer the gameplay to taste and hardware issues.

That's so you have a choice of how much realism you wish to add to your game play. Not everyone likes all the mods so you choose the ones you wish to activate in IUB and also what your PC can handle graphics wise etc.

hope this helps,

Blue_Ninja63

For Bat502: Double check your installation procedure according to the readmes for the mods you've installed you just might have a faulty install is my guess.

The difference between harbour traffic lite and Harbour traffic is the number of ships you will see in port enemy and friendly. If you have a fast machine I definitely recommend the full harbour mod and it looks like that is already installed with IUB as Harbour lite looks like an option you have to enable that will switch the install to lesser ships.

is there a website i can get the full IUB 3 mod from that has some actuall bandwith ?
i tried uboat realsim, and its going to take 10 hours, and thats with a 2mb connection http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

i like this mod and want it, but not at a 10 hour wait lol.

Yeah, sorry about that. It all because of the GW release. I can't even find decent server myself.

I can't even try FileFront because the server is much slower.

If it was easier, I would have uploaded IuB 1.04 already http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Maybe if someone teaches me how to make torrents it would be better, but of course, as usual, Googles is dodgy when comes to get solid infos. I will check again later this evening...
