I was just wondering, what exactly is each company doing for the game ? what is UBI's role and what is Gearbox's role ? Whos doing what ? I'd really like to know.

They also make the box art and help with the funding.

Gearbox has its own forums for the game (see sig).
Basically, Gearbox owns the rights to the game, and makes the game. Ubisoft is in change of everything on the marketing side: the official website, boxart, distribution.
