I have never been a "Trekkie" per say, watched Star Trek the Next Generation some growing up and loved it, over the years have managed to catch all the movies for both the original and next gen, never watched the other star treks, did not care for them.Anyway, heard the new Star Trek was cool so convinced my girlfriend to go see it, I was actually impressed and disappointed at same time. The visuals were excellent and i like the prequel take on things.
The story was okay but had some holes in it.Acting was decent but def not on the level of other Treks.

To me, the other Trek movies and series had better actors because they relied more on the acting, thus had better acters like Shatner, Nimoy, Doohan etc Overall a good movie and enjoyable even for the non Star Trek fans, my gf liked it and she is not the type at all lol.

So on to next part of this, I was thinking a SH 4 type game set in the Star Trek arena would be a awseome.A "Starship Sim"...wondering if anyone knows of a game like that coming out soon, since the movie is out.

Anyone else have comments on the movie?

Havent seen the movie....

But there was a movie about a "starship sim" based on a video game, called "Wing Commander".... I remember it being kinda bad. I went to see it because it had the Star Wars Episode I trailer at the beginning.

Might be something you want to rent someday on a rainy day and have nothing else to do!!!

I liked the original series simply because it was SO 1960's:

I went with my son the opening weekend here in Chicago and saw the movie. There are some holes in the story line but otherwise the movie was very entertaining. I was also a big fan of the origional series. As for Star Trek gaming, I understand that there will be a new Star Trek game coming out in January, '10. It's called Star Trek: Online (http://www.startrekonline.com/).

As said my first introduction to star trek as a kid was The Next Generation, then was exposed to the original series, which was different but I enjoyed it also. After those two never watched any of the others believe it or not, but as mentioned I have see all the movies over the years. The new movie is overall good, some holes in the story, but oh well.

Tambor, thanks for the link, Star Trek Online looks pretty cool.

Years ago there was a game called Independence War (I-War) that used real physics to model space flight (and fighting). Quite good.

Best thing out now in terms of "simulation" is the old BattleCruiser Millennium.

As i pointed out in the Top 10 favourite series thread, i didnt liked that new Star Trek movie all too much.

Good actors, fresh wind blows through the franchise,i like all that... but the story of this movie...... rather cheap and very worn within the sci-fi genre. The character motivations are also unsufficiently explained.

Its clear what drives Spock and Kirk but the motivations of Nero are rather unconvincing.

The whole story feels like a unfinished "Beta version" to me.

ahhh yes, I have Independance War... That was a cool game. I never did get far in it though, but as I remember it was very realistic. Closest to a space sim I have ever played.

Including Space Shuttle for the Atari 2600 --- in my opinion the first home console sim game ever made.

I also feel real old now, I remember the original searies. I also like the ST:NG. I need to at least see the new movie to see if it lives up to the standards that the others have set.

I have to agree with you, Celeon. The storyline of the movie was pretty weak. There are many inconsistancies in the plot and many things left unexplained. The movie just basically is a starting point for a new Star Trek series whether movie or TV (who knows). Still, even thought the story was weak, I did enjoy the movie.

Well I thought it the best Trek movie in ages if not one of THE best so go figure.

My favourite movies are Part IV : The Journey Home and Part VI : The Undiscovered Country

Most people hate Part V : The Final Frontier but i like it. It had a very weak script and story with lots of holes in it but the humour in it is the best of all Star Trek movies.

Remember how Scotty bragged about knowing each corner and every little screw aboard the new Enterprise and a minute later he walked into that service tunnel and hit that pipe with his head knocking himself unconscious ?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Ohh good ol James Dohan http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
