Hi,

I did a de-install of Myst V sometime ago. First from the start-up menu and then the left-overs from the hard disk.

I have been trying all day to make a new re-install and had no luck. I am getting this message...click here (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/yandefia/mystre-installationmessage.jpg)

I did a complete search for all the "temp, tmp, and temporary files" and deleted everything.
I also did a full search for 1-ubisoft 2- cyan 3- cyan End of Ages 4- Myst V and did not find anything.
I have tried creating a new account and tried to install from there. Still getting the same message.
Since it is a dvd, could it be possible that something was added to the dvd to prevent some king of copying ? Are we supposed to buy another myst 5 if we want to play it again ?

Should I delete java and try to look for a new download ?

Thank you very much for your time.

I have found the solution after 18 hours. I was doing my search in english on Ubisoft support and the directions were not complete. On the french site, I finaly found everything needed. The fix and the new installation took me only+-30 min. and was easy. Myst V is intalled.

Because I am only a newbie I would not dare say how I did it (translation) but if Heimdall or anyone is interrested please PM me. nanouk

That error message most commonly results from not deleting vpd.properties, found in your \Windows folder.

If you look at Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3471054943/m/6171031163), one of the stickied topics at the top of this Forum, you'll see that deleting vpd.properties is one of the steps in the procedure.

Hi Heimdall,

I had already done that as suggested from the Ubisoft support page (english) but in my case it was not enough. So, out of despair I checked the french side and found that two HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE also had to be deleted. I will give you a link and if you look in the second section "Voici comment retirer Myst V manuellement: you, first, have to run "regedit" and localise the two given HKEYs...click here french site (http://ubisoft-fr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_fr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10639&p_created=1127917902&p_sid=RXtTRhZh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29yd D0mcF9yb3dfY250PTQmcF9wcm9kcz04OCwxMzU5JnBfY2F0cz0 wJnBfcHY9Mi4xMzU5JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd 2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1 teXN0IHY*&p_li=&p_topview=1)
I hope you can make something out of that as a futur reference in your pc.

Thanks for the information!

It looks like there are some links on the French site that we don't have available on this side of the pond, and need to have. Also, there's a comment that vpd.properties might be used by other programs or games, so it might not be a good idea to delete it out of hand.

I'll do some translating and add the good stuff to the stickies at the top of the Forum.

Hi Heimdall,

About the vpd.properties: I was very lucky there because all entries were myst 5 related. I did an experiment and clicked on one line only but it seems I could not delete them one by one. So a newbie like me could have done serious dammages if there had been other "lines"

If you rename the file to vpd.txt, you can edit it correctly and line-by-line with Notepad. When you're finished editing, save the file as text and re-rename it back to vpd.properties.
