Hi i have the same prob as many others.
the demo chrases after the splashscreen witout any error message.
Ive checked my computers System Log and it says:
Application error:
(swedish)
felaktig modul granny2.dll, version 2.5.0.5, felaktig adress 0x00001e10.

Ive googled a bit and granny2 seems to be something from radgametools:

I tried ALOT of stuff to get this game running.
And the thing that seemed to fix it was to download XP Service Pack 2 (dont like it but anything for homm!) Download - install - reboot and voila! it worked.
If you dont have SP 2 and all the latest updates installed try that.

so they should perhaps put SP 2 in the sys req for release?

is it possible that granny2.dll can fix random game crashes in game when clicking specific things or does the granny file handle something else? What does it handle anyway?

i think is not a problem of sound...or it is at least with SBLive or other creatives until "fmod.dll" (audio api) resolve that issue
and is not a problem regarding DX or that granny (video api) in most cases..
but i think is a problem about memory allocation usage of virtual memory or so..in our case with granny error...and now i try to optimise those dll's
so it will bo wise to check that there is no conflicts with dll's (other versions in OS dirs)
so i think random comes from memmory...

Try this:
Download this file:
http://rapidshare.de/files/21217344/Profiles.rar.html
Unpack it to your My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles. If those dirs aren't there create them.
It's my profile set at 1024*768 with lowest, no aa, no af, no shadows.
So use it to start the game. After that you can create yourself a profile.
